Statement of Values and Code of Ethics for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Organizations
This document was drafted by a special taskforce of the INDEPENDENT SECTOR Ethics and Accountability Committee, distributed to IS members for review over a four-month period from October 2003 through January 2004, and approved by the IS Board of Directors on January 29, 2004. It constitutes the Statement of Values and Code of Ethics that IS will use for its own work. In addition, the Board of Directors of IS encourages IS members, and the field as a whole, to use this document in either drafting and adopting your own statement of values and code of ethics or, for those who have already done so, reviewing and revising, as necessary, your statement of values and code of ethics. As stated within, IS believes that each and every organization in the independent sector should have a code of ethics. IS firmly believes that the process by which a code is adopted is as important as the code itself, and that the board and staff should be involved in developing, drafting, adopting, and implementing a statement that fits Covenant Partners’s unique characteristics. Going through this process with the board and staff also begins to infuse into the culture of Covenant Partners a recognition of how important it is to address issues of values and ethics on an ongoing basis. We encourage all organizations to set aside time in your board meeting or at a retreat to discuss in detail all aspects of an ethical code—and be sure that new board members have the appropriate orientation to understand and embrace your code of ethics and practices.

The ACA Code of Ethics was designed as a set of guidelines for counseling professionals to adhere to for keeping their sessions ethically in line, to help society’s quality of life and indorse respect for every human’s dignity and diversity. The AACC Code of Ethics was created for the Christian Counselor community in an effort to assist counselors with not only boundaries of unethical counseling practices, but also, provide education for counselors in becoming helpers with ethical excellence capable of securing the best outcomes in counseling for their clients. The AACC Code of Ethics takes what the ACA Code of Ethics entails and expands it further with the foundation of biblical principles to help the counselor and clients. Both ethics codes were designed to create the best counseling result for both the professional counselors and their clients. The differences and similarities between the ACA and the AACC Codes of Ethics will be addressed in greater detail, along with three specific areas of ethical concerns: informed consent, counseling fees, and sexual intimacies. ...As a founder in a management consulting firm that caters to non profits, the development of a Code of Ethics became an integral part of our company’s foundation. It is in the best interest of both “for profit” and “nonprofit” businesses to create a Code of Ethics. A Code of Ethics will establish guidelines to management, employees and stake holders. These “rules of conduct” implement organizational structure that will encourage management and employee to embrace loyalty and accountability. This in turn creates mutually beneficial good faith practices as it pertains to its stakeholders. While “nonprofit “companies often obtain their funds from government agencies, they are not without the usual considerations as it pertains to the bottom line. Both “for profit” and “non profit” organizations must balance the scales of fiscal and ethical responsibility. A crucial part of our firm’s success lies in our ability to balance those scales on behalf of our firm’s team and the non profits that we serve. A Code of Ethics for our consulting firm will require all of its associates and management to maintain the highest level of integrity when dealing with each other, security holders, customers and others whom the company conducts business with. The purpose of the code will: * Promote honest, fair and ethical conduct within personal and professional relationships. * Encourage associates to comply with government laws, rules, and regulations. * Allow for confidential...

...Code of Ethics A written code of ethics is the cornerstone of any formal ethics program. (Kelly, McGowen, Williams, 2014, p. 263) It gives employees a basis for making correct decisions. The universal ethical standards say that ethics are based on the moral standards of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Board members and employees are expected to abide by the policies and procedures regarding standards of conduct set forth in the respective documents. (Cheesecake Factory Code of ethics, 2006, p. 1) So in essence a code of ethics is showing what the company feels that an employee should and shouldn’t do. A Code of Ethics cannot possibly contemplate every possible situation, so they make sure to add that employees need to use good judgment. In order to maintain an ethical standing, employees should be trained in how to react to certain situations. Conflict of Interest is the largest section noted in Cheesecake Factory’s code of ethics. I believe that they spent the most time on this because it is very important to the business. If employees don’t follow the code of ethics then the company would fall apart. Things such as insider trading, accepting valuable gifts, and inter office relationships, often devastate businesses. People being left to govern themselves often fall to destructive tendencies. Sarbanes-Oxley limited conflict of interest by confining the consulting services that a company can use (Kelly, McGowen, Williams, 2014, p. 267) One other subheading...

...The code of ethics I decided to report on is for radiologic technologists found on the American Society of Radiologic Technologists website. I am studying to become a radiologist technician and this is the base and guidelines for my career. These guidelines make sure that everyone in this profession knows what is right and what is wrong in this line of work. A code of ethics also helps to set a standard for the business or company you are working for. Having a code of ethics for this field of work is very beneficial. As a radiologic technologist you are delivering patient care. It is very important to have an ethical behavior guideline when taking care of patients. Patients all have a professional standard they uphold when dealing with medical care. If employees don’t have a guideline of value-based principles or practices than the patient isn’t receiving their right to professional quality radiologic technology care. A code of ethics is also beneficial when it comes to legal aspects. Having a code of ethics for a company helps limit their legal liability from improper employee behavior. When researching the code of ethics for this career I didn’t find any weaknesses or problems with it. I believe code of ethics are pretty much beneficial all around.
