College Admissions Essay: A Career As An Academic Honor Student

I have always believed that I was destined to do great things. I went from being an ESL speaker to becoming one of the best speakers in my high school and community. I did so well in high school that I was given the honor of being recognized as an academic honor student and community leader by the school board, but I wasn’t always this motivated. My aunt, Heriti was the motivation behind all my achievements in life. She took me in as her own, because my parents were unfortunately not able to be present. I was able to feel loved for the first time in my life, because of her. Despite the struggles I went through, I was able to accomplish something no one believed I could. I was able to be the first one in my family to graduate high school and be blessed with the amazing opportunity to go to college. As a first generation student and determined student, I was awarded various financial aid including the UNT Academic scholarship, which helped pay a majority of my tuition off. This scholarship gave me tremendous hope and made me feel like for once in my life, I could actually create change and chase my dreams. However, I wholeheartedly believe I would have not been given these incredible opportunities without the endless effortt, support, and motivation that my aunt instilled …show more content…
It was challenging for a while. There were days where I felt my dreams slipping from the palms of my hands and says where I wanted to take that long drive back home. Nonetheless, I was surrounded by my friends who made me realize that I needed to do better not only for myself, but for my aunt who would’ve done anything to see me succeed. From there on, I decided to grab my life by the reigns and start making efforts to raise my grades up.
