Seeing Through New Eyes

“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”- Albert Einstein

I have struggled in my math classes through the course of my education. Test days were always days filled with stress and anxiety. Though I have always paid attention in class and have been a relatively good student, I would always worry that I did not know the test material well enough. My final report cards always caused frustration, as I did so well in my other classes, but consistently earned lower marks in just about every math class I took. However, in my junior year of high school, things finally started to turn around. There was hope for me yet! It just took meeting the right teacher. …show more content…
Person. So far high school math classes had been a nightmare for me. I asked questions, I worked with tutors and peers outside of class, but nothing seemed to make math click for me. I was exceptionally nervous about this class in particular, as I had heard horror stories from my upperclassmen friends about how difficult Algebra II was. Luckily, my fear was soon put to rest. Within the first week we took our first quiz, as the class moved along quickly, it was the first of many to come. I anxiously awaited my quiz score, and to my surprise, I had done very well! I started walking into class with a much more optimistic attitude. Soon, however, the material we were studying got exceedingly difficult, and I began to fall again. I knew then that it was time to get some help outside of

Xiearmyxiearmy 零四岁末于美国穷乡僻壤 Chapter I Application Essay Examples INTRODUCTION This appendix contains 115 actual essays written, by 17 different applicants, for leading MBA programs. They address dozens of different essay topics. The applicants and their essays have been selected to give you the widest possible range of materials from which to profit. The first four applicants all applied to the University of Chicago. They were chosen by Chicago’s admissions director, Don Martin, according to my desire that they be from four very different people and of average quality for those admitted. In other words, these essays will show you exactly what you are competing against. They are of perfectly acceptable quality, but they should not discourage you. If you follow the lessons of this book you should be able to surpass each of these efforts. The second set of three applicants—Melissa, Doreen, and Carol—is taken from Columbia University’s files. Columbia’s admissions director, Linda Meehan, was asked to supply several applications, again from people of widely differing backgrounds, but this time of superior quality. I think that this group’s applications...

Realism

...Realism of the 20th century was peculiar with the influence of modernism and psychologism. However, it was characterized by its attention to details, as well as its attempt to recreate reality as it was, without any decorative language. It tried to reproduce the most detail and objective life of Great Britain before and after World Wars. Realism represented the social life and paid much attention to domestic problems. Its representatives showed tragic vision of life using satire and dark humour, but still their vision of life is much more optimistic than the modernistic one. Talking about their characters, they were social types depicted in their everyday life dealing with their virtues, morals, profession, relationships, worldview etc. Narrative form used by realists is characterized by several narrative characters in order to create an objective vision of life. The most prominent among the writers who continued the traditions of realism were: J. Galsworthy, A. Bennett, H. Wells, B. Shaw; and their followers R. Aldington, G. Orwell, J. Priestley, and E. Waugh. The Novel is certainly the most important literary form of the period. The realistic novel is represented by such novelistic forms as: the social and social-psychological novel (J. Galsworthy, E. Waugh, R. Aldington) the social-domestic novel (A. Bennett, H. Wells) the comic or satirical novel (E. Waugh) family chronicle or epic cycle (J. Galsworthy) science fiction (H. Wells). Despite all this...

Living in New York City

...Out There! 1. “I’m gonna sell you on New York!” “Start spreading the news: I’m leaving today; I want to be a part of it: New York, New York!” – Frank Sinatra, “New York, New York” I don’t remember when I first heard this song, but it finally stuck with me when I heard it in Friends With Benefits, you know the scene where Jamie takes Dylan to Times Square to be a part of a flash mob while she’s trying to sell New York to him so he’d accept a job at GQ. Well, if you didn’t know that, then now you do. Aside from being one of my favourite movies ever, Friends With Benefits just completely amplified my love for New York by infinity times. Now just to clear things up before I continue, we’re friends right? I don’t want this essay to sound like a stranger shoving an annoying travel infomercial about New York down your throat. I want you to love New York as much as I do, or at least not feel forced to. It could be like we’re just having a conversation, just like Jamie says to Dylan back at her apartment after they watch that shitty romantic film: “Yeah. Two girls over drinks at Bennigan’s. Go.” 2. “It’s New York! I’ve seen Seinfeld.” “Not the bullshit tourist version!” I always knew I belonged in New York; I guess I just didn’t realize it when I was a kid. I was always saying things like, “Wow New York is so pretty I want to go there!”, “O my gosh can I go to New York puhLEASE.”, and “Wow how great would it be to live in New York?” New York always seemed like such a fabulous...

...Real Essays From Stanford Medical Students Comments Regarding Plagiarism The essays contained within this document were written by current Stanford medical students and have been carefully read and reviewed by file reviewers, interviewers, and admissions staff and officers at Stanford Medical School as well as dozens of other medical schools across the country. We must emphasize that you need to be honest in writing your personal statements. If you borrow material or use quotes from other sources, make sure to credit them appropriately. Not giving credit where it is due is not only disastrous to your essay, but it is also illegal. Admissions officers read hundreds, and even thousands of personal statements each year, and have developed a fine tune sense for detecting plagiarism as well as remembering the essays they’ve read. You owe it to yourself to be hones, open, and sincere in writing your personal essay as it is a reflection of yourself and what is important in your life and your decision to pursue a career in medicine. Stanford Essays The following essays were written by real Stanford medical students in preparing their applications. We suggest that you read through all of the essays to get a diverse view of the types of themes and styles which have been successfully used for personal statements. Each personal statement is exactly that, personal. No one format or style will work for everyone. However, there are structures and themes which are common throughout...
