The Honors College requires that all students attend a minimum of at least two colloquium a semester. They range in topic from the sciences to technology and society. They give us insight on career paths and what we can expect. In addition, they give us different perspectives of different career choices that I might pursue. For example, I attended a colloquium performed by the Klang String Quartet. This quartet offers a unique blend of beats, tunes, and influences. They played their music in an unconventional manner and made it entertaining and educational at the same time. As stated by the quartet, the word Klang” means “sound” in German. The quartet was made up of a cellist, Matthew Goeke, violinist, Gregor Kitzis and Rieko Kawabato, and Yi-Ping Yang on the viola. …show more content…
Subsequently, as a result of going, I left feeling calmer and felt more at peace. So when I went to take the exam I was not nervous and did not have an anxiety attack. So I guess I just proved the saying true. In addition, I attended because I read that this group uses an unusual manner for playing their instruments, and they do not play traditional orchestra music. They gave the music a little of a modern touch to their music. Additionally, the unconventional method for playing their instruments was that they used guitar picks instead of the bow. Which, for string instruments, is very

When John von Neumann turned his interest to computers, he was one of the leading mathematicians of his time. In the 1940s, he helped design two of the first stored-program digital electronic computers. He authored reports explaining the functional organization of modern computers for the first time, thereby influencing their construction worldwide (von Neumann, 1945; Burks et al., 1946). In the first of these reports, von Neumann described the computer as analogous to a brain, with an input “organ” (analogous to sensory neurons), a memory, an arithmetical and a logical “organ” (analogous to associative neurons), and an output “organ” (analogous to motor neurons). His experience with computers convinced him that brains and computers, both having to do with the processing of information, should be studied by a new discipline–automata theory. In fact, according to von Neumann, automata theory would cover not only computers...

OSMAN KHANUNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL PUNJAB | HIGHER EDUCATION | LITERATURE REVIEW | HAFSA KHAN L1F15MSMK0007SAIRAZAKIR L1F15MSMK00085/28/2016 | LITERATURE REVIEW: THE CONCEPT OF BRANDING IN HIGHER EDUCATION Bennett and Ali-Choudhury ( 2007 p4 ) suggest that a university brand is “a manifestation of the institution’s features that distinguish it from others , reflect its capacity to satisfy students’ needs, engender trust in its ability to deliver a certain type and level of higher education, and help potential recruits to make wise enrolment decisions”. Stamp (2004) gives a number of factors for higher education (HE) branding agenda, that includes;tuition fees, competitive differentiation, league tables, organizations attaining university status and the miss-match between brand perceptions and delivery. Researchers have to continually ask why some organizations are more successful than others in brand building in order to understand branding.(Urde, 2003). It has been suggested that “Higher Education Institutions need to be managed more and more as corporate brands” (Whelan & Wohlfeil, 2006, p317), but instead of the fact that there is a large number of studies that examined image and reputation, the notion of branding has very little marks on higher education marketing literature (HemsleyBrown and Oplatka, 2006) and empirical papers that relate to HE branding are scarce (Hemsley-Brown and Goonawardana...

...Adrian Payne & Pennie Frow A Strategic Framework for Customer Relationship Management In this article, the authors develop a conceptual framework for customer relationship management (CRM) that helps broaden the understanding of CRM and its role in enhancing customer value and, as a result, shareholder value. The authors explore definitional aspects of CRM, and they identify three alternative perspectives of CRM. The authors emphasize the need for a cross-functional, process-oriented approach that positions CRM at a strategic level. They identify five key cross-functional CRM processes: a strategy development process, a value creation process, a multichannel integration process, an information management process, and a performance assessment process. They develop a new conceptual framework based on these processes and explore the role and function of each element in the framework. The synthesis of the diverse concepts within the literature on CRM and relationship marketing into a single, process-based framework should provide deeper insight into achieving success with CRM strategy and implementation. ver the past decade, there has been an explosion of interest in customer relationship management (CRM) by both academics and executives. However, despite an increasing amount of published material, most of which is practitioner oriented, there remains a lack of agreement about what CRM is and how CRM strategy should be developed. The purpose of this article is to develop a...

...Shadow vs. Market Prices in Explaining Land Allocation: Subsistence Maize Cultivation in Rural Mexico Aslıhan Arslan No. 1469 | December 2008 Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Düsternbrooker Weg 120, 24105 Kiel, Germany Kiel Working Paper No. 1469 | December 2008 Title* Author Aslihan Arslan Abstract: Economic models of land allocation may lead to expectations for farmer response that “surprisingly" do not materialize, if market prices fail to reflect the value of farmers' product. “Shadow prices" rather than market prices explain resource allocation better for farmers who attach significant non-market values to their own crops. I extend the theoretical model in Arslan and Taylor (2008) to explain why the land allocation of such farmers may not respond to market signals even if transaction costs are not binding. I estimate the proportion of land subsistence maize farmers allocate to traditional versus modern maize varieties using nationally representative rural household data from Mexico – the center of diversity of maize. I conclude that shadow prices explain land allocation better than market prices and discuss the importance of non-market values in understanding both farmers' supply response and on-farm conservation of traditional crops with non-market values.
