How do you imagine the Earth in one million years? Maybe you see flying cars, or a cure for cancer! The truth is, however, that Earth will be uninhabitable. With global warming, growing populations, and more, it’s hard to imagine people living on Earth for even another couple hundred years. This fact may be depressing, but I have good news. Humanity can still thrive. Many people think that Earth is the only planet where life can survive. That may have been a “fact” fifty years ago, but now, scientists are almost certain that we can colonize Mars. We should colonize Mars, because it is a backup plan for the Earth, it will help us achieve Universal civilization, and it is possible. Growth is an accomplishment, but did we ever look back and see what we did to the planet we live on? Many people dismiss the thought of living on another planet, because they deem it “impossible”. Think about other historical achievements. Many people thought flying vehicles, climbing Mt. Everest, or even the technology we use today was impossible. Look where society is now. Humans can achieve almost anything. You may ask, “Who would want to live on Mars if it is just a dried up rock?” The answer is terraforming. Terraforming is changing the conditions on a planet(atmosphere, water, ect.) to make them more suitable to life. Terraforming doesn’t have to stop at Mars.
