My approach in writing an assignment for class is more of a textbook approach. In other words, what I learned about writing in class are the steps I take when writing for an assignment. The first step I take when writing for an assignment is by pre-writing. Pre-writing organizes my thoughts and helps in making the topic I am writing about more interesting. I start out with a draft of my thoughts and ideas on the topic that I am writing about for that particular assignment. With this step, I can put those ideas in an effective form and I am able to communicate my thoughts and ideas on the topic or subject matter in written form. From there, I take the revising step. I try to look at my work more critically in this step and I am revising different parts of what I have written in making the paper I am writing a well-written finished product. The last step for me is to edit my written work. I am able to look over what I have written, re-read, edit and I am also checking for spelling and grammar issues in what I have written thus far. In this editing step, I also enlist someone else to read and edit my finish written work. Having someone else to read what I have written and giving me feedback is the most important step in the process for me. By doing this step, I have an opinion and the critical eye of someone else other than myself, to give me a different perspective of my written work. Taking the above steps in writing helps me not only improving my written assignment but to also improve my writing abilities in the future.

Week 9 Assignment Com/155

...Week 9 Assignment Com/155 2. My final assignment in Com/155 is to analyze two paragraphs, written by two unknown writers; I chose paragraphs three and four. In each individual paragraph, the writers’ attention is on informing the reader about the various processes associated with credit. In paragraph three, the writer began his or her text, by giving examples as to why a person is not eligible for credit. It further explains in the text that upon denial, you would receive a letter from the Fair Credit Reporting Act, documenting the terms of its refusal. Paragraph four opened up by acknowledging that most consumers understand the security and stability of a good credit score; the text further explained the process involved in calculating a credit rating. The writer of paragraph three, style of writing appeared choppy and fragmented; the writer was very repetitious in his or her use of words. Paragraph four lacked the necessary purpose to support the content with in the text. Both paragraphs were affective in there individual ideas, of informing the reader about the do and do not, in regards to obtaining and maintaining credit; still there were some unanswered questions. Paragraph three is the more informative of the two, having purpose, giving examples of why one is denied credit, and content, informing you on the letter...

...and Content COM/155 - UNIVERSITY COMPOSITION AND COMMUNICATION I Instructor: JEFF ARVIZU By In this paper we are going to discuss the importance of purpose, audience, tone, and content in academic writing. Without these four things to structure your paragraph it is hard to have a paragraph or paper that will hold your audience. The purpose of a paragraph is why the writer initially wrote the writing. What gives the writer purpose and reason for the paragraph is their ideas, stories, or information she wants to share. The purpose is the main cause for the paper to be written and without it there would be no call to write it. The audience is important to the writing because when writing a paper the goal is to develop a kind of relationship with the audience and dedicate the writing to the audience’s needs. To achieve capturing the audience’s attention so that they may relate to your writing it is important to know the audience’s background, demographics, and education. The audience is important to the writing because they are the reason to present and put the writing together so that it can be clearly understood. It is important to make sure the writing keeps the audience interested and the writing is significant so the audience does not lose interest. The tone of your paper effects the writing because it acts as the writer’s attitude regarding the written subject. The tone you use while writing the paper will show the audience whether the writing is funny, sad...

...Katherine Cole COM 155 Write a 150 to 200 word paragraph describing the steps of your current writing approach. For example, how do you approach writing an assignment for a class? In addition, outline the ways your process differs from or is similar to the writing process outlined in your texts. This paragraph should follow the structure of an effective paragraph. Underline the topic sentence and bold the concluding sentence in the paragraph. Use complete sentences. Post your assignment, Review the additional resources I will be taking the time to explain my current writing approach. The first thing that I do is make sure I have a quiet area to work in and a sound mind so that I can focus on my writing. I usually use my laptop to write because pen and paper makes me nervous. I begin writing what I know and like to discuss, which is called discovering and brainstorming. Then after I have discovered and brainstormed, I begin narrowing down what I want to write about such as: Topic sentence and supportive details. After finalizing my topic sentence, I move forward and compose my rough draft. By drafting what I have written, it allows me to add thoughts and to subtract the unnecessary supporting details. Then after I have done that, I revise the draft by rearranging ideas and reshaping sentences to make a smooth and flowing paper. After carefully examining the paper to see if it contains any errors of grammar, spelling, or punctuation for the last time, I then proceed to write...

...Write a paragraph (200-250 words) of instructions on the writing process for future COM/155 students or inexperienced academic writers. When writing a paper many need to follow instructions to complete the whole essay. These seven little steps can help tremendously. First, thing you have to decide a topic for your paper. You should think about the paper you are expected to produce. The next thing to do is to create an outline for your paper. When you create an outline you are putting your ideas about the topic, this outline will be changed more than once and that is a good thing. After, writing your topic and doing an outline you should write your thesis statement. Your thesis statement tells the reader what the essay will be about and what point you will be making. Then you should start on the body paragraphs, in the body paragraphs they need to include all of your main points, and your sub points. Each body paragraph should include supporting points, which elaborate on each main idea. The next two you should do is start on your introduction and your conclusion. When writing the introduction you need to attract the reader’s attention. Then you need to add more sentences with the attention grabber, and then finish strong with your thesis statement. Now write your conclusion, it sums up all of your points and doing your final perspective about your topic. The conclusion needs about three or four sentences to finish your paper strong. When looking throughout these steps they may...

Paragraph Writing

...Paragraph Writing When writing academically, purpose, audience, tone, and content greatly influence the writing to be delivered effectively. Purpose of a paragraph or writing is why the writer originally had written the writing. What ideas, stories, or information he has to share gives the writer purpose and reason for the writing. The purpose has an impact on the writing because it is the main cause for it to be written and without the purpose, there would be no need to write. Audience affects writing because you should try to develop a certain relationship with your audience and accommodate your writing to the audience’s needs. Knowing your audience’s background, demographics, and education can affect the information and content of the writing to make the audience relate to what is written. Audience affects the writing on how it is presented and put together to be more clearly understandable. Audience expectations and interests affect writing by keeping the writing interesting and relevant so you do not lose the audience’s attention. Tone affects writing because it serves as the writer’s attitude toward the written subject. Using tone can alert the audience to the attitude of the writing such as funny, sad, somber, and exciting. Using tone affects writing because the writer wants to bring the correct mood to the audience and to the subject written about. Content affects writing by keeping the audience attention with appropriate material. By having content appropriate for...

Final Assignment Com

...Final Assignment Misty White COM/155 University Composition and Communication I 1/16/11 Paul Neuhausen Final Assignment I think that paragraph five is an example of more effective writing than paragraph one. In paragraph one the sentences are very short. It is very hard to see were the writer is going with this paragraph. All of the sentences sound the same. I can get lost trying to rearrange the sentences as I read so I can get the writers point. Paragraph five is the total opposite. I had no problem getting what the writer is trying to say. The paragraph flowed smoothly from beginning to end. The first sentence leads way to the next and throughout the paragraph. The writer used sentence variety by asking questions and grabbing the readers’ attention. Theirs one thing that I would change about paragraph five is the last sentence; I would use something that does not sound the same as the first sentence. Paragraph five I think is the best written of the two. In the feedback from WritePoint there were many suggestions on my final paragraph. One of the suggestions was in my first sentence, I used the word “feel” to describe what I think of the difference between the two paragraphs that I reviewed; Writepoint gave me a clearer writing suggestion saying,“ if “feel” is used in the sense of “to believe or think”, it is a cliché and vague; use believe or think.” I think that this is a great suggestion. I was trying to have variety in my words but “feel” is...
