The importance of having a professional and personal communication in the health care field is recognized as a significant element to be able to provide exceptional care to patients in the facility. The aspect of being able to communicate effectively ensures that the patient and its family understand about their health problems and how they could be treated. It can greatly affect the reinforcement of attitudes and behaviour and easily follow up to instructions. The purpose of this paper is to identify the value of effective communication and ways on how a provider could improve on interacting with the patients and families according to the article published by Planetree and Picker Institute.

Various hospitals are where one on one interaction is the core of providing care among patients and residents. In this article there are various distinct therapeutic ways of communication developed for care providers to better assist, communicate, and open up lines of connection to patients and their families. In able to do this, one must prepare for giving full attention to the patient to truly understand what the patient is going through. The care giver should always be a good listener and wait for everything the patient would say before responding to anything. The provider must also create ambiance of exchange and connection. This could be done by introducing ones` self, acknowledging the patient and at the same time engaging with the family members. One must also be always aware of self-body language to enhance openness and easily build rapport. Providing clear adequate information in a slow manner and small amount is also relevant. This assures that the patient has enough time to process and understand the information given to him or her. And lastly, the provider should always remember to ask for feedback after discussing with the patient. One must grasp that every
