There are different facility provided forums and health care information hotlines where patients can receive information with out seeing a provider but the most important new development in the health care related communication are the electronic medical record (EMR). Over the course of the paper I will discuss benefits to the patients, how important confidentiality is when using EMR’s, why EMR’s are an effective means of communication between the providers and patients, how this mode of communication differs from other methods, and how the media and social networking could change communication in health care. There are many benefits that the EMR bring to the table to help provider patient relationships. The most important one that comes to my mind is the fact with EMR providers that are having a hard time finding a possible diagnose to an issue is the ability to share patient history with other providers to find an answer. This is one of the greatest benefits to patient health the EMR can bring. One of the draw backs how ever with EMR is the availability of unrelated employees being able to access patient records. This is why it is extremely important to maintain the patient information in a chain...

...Communication Paper Shannetha Wilder HCS/490 March 12, 2012 Jeinnie Avera Communication Paper Communication and health care are two very important things that go together. In this communication paper I will be explaining different methods of using the electronic medical records. When using electronic medical records this helps keep track of all the patients health records, and this has become a huge part of communication with the patient and physician. Recording information on paper has been the method of life for years and it is slowly being replaced by using computer technology and for years it has been slowly moving ahead. The EMR system is at the heart of any automated health information systems by consumers. If they were not in existence then other up to date technologies such as decision support systems, cannot be effectively integrated into the custom clinical workflow. There are many advantages in EMR but the main advantage of Electronic Medical Record software completion is better efficiency, using an EMR system saves the effort and time so that patient’s health information is always readily available, and it helps with monitoring of the patients from a distance, and furthermore performance of electronic health records system saves office room that is naturally necessary to store the paper, none-electronic medical records. ...Communication Paper Keilei Adams-Brown HCS-490 May 20, 2012 Michael Veal Communication Paper Communication is one of the most important parts of any organization and with health care there has many new and changing ways to communicate with the patients/consumers. Electronic medical records is fairly new and very beneficial to not only the organization but for the patients as well. Benefits The electronic medical records is much more efficient over having paper charts because they are easier to access as well as share with others that are involved in the patients care. With this being said if a patient has a sudden emergency where they are required to go to the hospital then those records can be sent and shared with that ER staff as well so that it may help with any complications the patient may encounter. With such catastrophic events in our nations past like 9/11, and the tornadoes that have been plaguing our heart lands this comes in handy so that information is easier to share with other medical personnel. Safety In today’s crazy world we patient’s privacy is very important because there has been such rapid identity theft with the electronic medical records system in place it will help to eliminate that for the most part. There are no perfect systems out there but it does help to cut down on this. There are laws in place to help with stiff laws and penalties for not protecting patients could be very costly to the organization. No practice should give...

...Communication Paper Melissa Douglas HCS/490 07/22/13 David Dye Electronic Medical Records have changed the way health care is delivered to patients and it has also changed the way that providers communicate to one another about their patients. They can use the electronic records to do consults and get a second opinion. Provider to Provider communication is very important in patient care, the Family practice doctor needs to correlate with the Cardiologist about the patient so that they are on the same page regarding treatments, medications and a health plan. When all of a patients doctors and specialists are involved it makes for a better experience and quality of care for the patient. One of the perks of an Electronic Health Record for the patient is that in case of an emergency the hospital can bring up the patients information very quickly just by the click of a mouse, they can see the health history and allergies and this can be lifesaving in the middle of an emergency. Electronic records can help save a patient’s life and that is pretty amazing to have that kind of technology available in an emergency situation. ...Communication Paper HCS/490 Marilyn Serra 2/6/2012 Electronic Medical Records refers to a paperless, digital and computerized system of maintaining patient data, designed to increase the efficiency and reduce documentation errors by streamlining the process. Implementing Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a complex, expensive investment that has created a demand for Healthcare IT professionals and accounts for a growing segment of the healthcare workforce. Effective implementation of EMR helps in reducing administrative overheads that may add up to the bottom line profits for healthcare providers. In addition to this, it may result in increased revenue through effective utilization of resources, resulting in greater number of patients being attended to. However, the lack of standards for development of EMR solutions has resulted in a number of EMR solutions in the market that lack integration and interoperability among themselves. In the past, when a doctor closed his practice, retired, moved, or even died, patient records could easily get lost or relocated, making it impossible for patients to get the records they needed to take to a new doctor. Keeping these patient records electronically, especially in the cases where patients can also gain access to them, means the patient won't be left without the records needed. According to (N. Weinberg, 2010) EMR helps to improve clinical efficiency in the following ways: * Providing improved accessibility to patient records ...
