Listening Activity Paper
4/27/2015

First allow me to say that I was truly dreading this assignment. I thought to myself, “How am I going to devote 12 hours of any given day to this?” I am just so busy. However, I learned a lot in a short period of time about myself. I realize I was wrong about myself. I truly thought that I was, at all times, a kind and gracious listener. God knows I have preached to my children enough about how important it is to really listen to people. Now I wonder if they take me seriously when I say that. I did not realize how focused I get about our structure and routine. Being a single mom with two honor roll students who are very involved requires structure. I did not realize that when I am in that zone I am literally tuning them out and dismissing what they are expressing to me. This must make them feel pretty unimportant. It also begs the question, will they feel justified tuning me out. I am not aggravated when I am focused on getting things done but I fear I come across that way in my direct and impersonal responses and lack of listening. I also did not realize that I was prioritizing listening to one child over the other according to the time I have with each. I have literally subconsciously been scheduling time to listen to each of them. That means that if the Sienna feels it is important to tell me something during Aidan’s primary time in the car, I may or may not dismiss her. How awful that must make her feel! I had no idea that I was even doing this. Another part of the day that I was not so impressed with myself was my literal frustration at the lady trying to share her, what I dismissed as unimportant, problems with me. I used to always take the time to listen if someone felt a need to share a problem. I identify with being that person, kind and compassionate. I was mad simply because someone needed an ear to listen and chose me. I probably made her feel badly and it certainly made me question myself. Furthermore, what sort of example did I set for Aidan? On a high note I am a very good listener during down times. I put all outside thoughts aside during breakfast and dinner times. I listen appreciatively as the children share their days and experiences with me. I respond with positive thoughts and take the opportunity to build them up. We even have an activity for each meal where we discuss hopes for the day and at dinner we discuss our high and low for the day. I love to hear them talk and am grateful for those times. I learned a lot today. I have got to stop scheduling listening. It is as if I know that we will talk at dinner so I put it off. I have to be more available and willing to drop anything to listen so that my kids know that I value what they say. Listening is not something that can be scheduled or eventually they will just not bother talking to me. The one thing I take more pride in than anything is how open and close my kids are with me. I need to make some serious changes and be more open to hear them when THEY need to talk, not when it is convenient for me to listen. I realize that I interrupt them if I feel what I have to say is of greater importance than what they need from me or are trying to share with me. On the other hand I get aggravated if either of them interrupt me. When I am aggravated there is no genuine listening happening. It is like a downward spiral and I need to identify it in the moment, take a deep breath and remind myself to be present. I used to take a lot of pride in being mindful of those around me and present in each moment. I have been so busy that I had not looked at myself long enough to realize how far away from that person I have gotten this year. I have to slow down and clear my mind more. Calm down and listen because if I allow any negative emotion to rule my time than I am not hearing the most important words, those of my children. I am so glad we did this exercise, truly. It has opened my eyes and made me aware. My kids are glad too!

...using stolen social security numbers of legal citizens or the deceased. In the end, this will cause citizens to have to pay more. Did you know that as American taxpayers we pay over $113 million a year for illegal immigrants? The dream act should not be a law that should pass for the reasons following. Claim 1: Taxes The extra money that we will need for these children of the illegal immigrants to go to the schools will increase our taxes. The 113 million dollars has to come from somewhere and we are not going to pay out of pocket for it. The immigrants who are legal with stolen identification all of that money is paid somewhere by someone and in the end it is all of the legal citizens that pay for it with higher taxes. ...The Gun Debacle, How to Reduce Gun Violence Without Losing Your Rights Gregory Guyer ITT Technical Institute. "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... only disarm those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." Are Thomas JeffersonThomas JeffersonThomas Jefferson thoughts about gun control during his era who he quoted from an article written by Cesare Bonesana, Marchese Beccaria “essay on crimes and punishments”. (1764) Such remarks from a prominent member of our founding fathers suggest that not only has this debate been going on for a long time but also how important to Americans it is. The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This must have been thought important by our forefathers to have listed this one second, yet we are on the verge of losing yet another one of our rights as Americans in the name of safety. Will we really be safer, or is it simply a play of political control? According to the National Institute of Justice (2013), there are fewer gun related incidents nationwide than there were in the early 1990’s. Not only do we see fewer actual gun related...

..."There are no recorded cases of overdose fatalities attributed to cannabis, and the estimated lethal dose for humans extrapolated from animal studies is so high that it cannot be achieved," stated in a 1995 report prepared by the World Health Organization. (Medical Marijuana Mall USA, 2013). Medical marijuana is safer than prescription drugs, alcohol, and spice. Marijuana is more beneficial to use than prescription drugs because of the lack of serious side effects. The most common side effects of marijuana are coughing, wheezing, and bronchitis. These side effects are easily taken care of by using a vaporizer or preparing foods with marijuana. Marijuana is less dependable than prescription medication such as pain killers. Prescription medications are now killing more people in the United States than illegal street drugs. Even more importantly the consumption of marijuana cannot result in a fatal overdose. (Medical Marijuana Mall USA, 2013). Someone can’t even take a Tylenol or Aspirin without there being serious side effects to the liver and other organs in the body. Medical marijuana is not lethal, prescription and even non-prescription pills, powders, liquids, and injections are. (Medical Marijuana Project, 2012). A CBS news editorial by Dr. Mitch Earleywine mentions that medical marijuana can be marked cheaper to use than certain prescription drugs. This is especially relevant to patients in chronic pain who do not have medical insurance and need to pay out of...

...specific topic with the proper literature writing. Researching is to provide necessary information to individuals on a specific topic. Thus, this research can be used to write a paper or papers on a particular topic for intended audiences with the sources you used on your points and assertions. One job the writer needs to make sure he has done is to include a position he is on and that he has compressed or summarized all the research on various sources by focusing on the main key points. The writer also has the responsibility to provide a motivating, stimulating, or activating thesis statement. The writer’s purpose of writing a research paper is to provide specific details on all the sources that have been collected for the writing topic. He also needs to compress all the collected resources into highlighted key ideas from the passages. Also, he needs present a research paper that is consisting of three formats: a summary, a paraphrase, or a quotation. In a summary, you provide important key main points from the source’s idea and write to support the source’s idea. Paraphrase is when a person takes someone’s idea and put it into the writer’s own words. Lastly, quoting is to directly quote from an original source. Even though the writer provides information from various sources that is included to the written paper, the writer must put the researched information into their own words to avoid plagiarism. An Annotated Work Somehow

...Literature, Vol. 2, No. 3. 2010 Introduction The role of grammar in language instruction has been an issue of great controversy. In the early parts of the twentieth century grammar teaching was so fundamental in language instruction that the other aspects of language learning were either overlooked or de-mphasized. In the past, grammar teaching was considered as the presentation and practice of discrete grammatical structures. The present study investigated the effects of three types of dictation practice (standard dictation, dicto-comp, and dictogloss) on elementary EFL learners' immediate and delayed performance on tests of present tense to be verbs and indefinite articles in English. A. Statement of the Problem: * Will the effects of the standard type of dictation between its immediate and delayed effects on acquisition of grammatical knowledge be different to that of the effects of dicto-comp dictation and dicto-gloss dictation when it is measured by performance on multiple-choice tests? B. Hypothesis: * Empirical Hypothesis: * If students score higher when subjected to the standard type of dictation than that of those under dicto-comp dictation, than those under dictogloss type of dictation then the Standard Dictation has a different immediate and delayed effect to the other types of dictation. * Null Hypothesis: * There is no significant difference between the immediate and delayed effects of Standard Dictation, Dicto-comp dictation...

Assignment 8

...ASSIGNMENT 8 SAMUEL ALVAREZ PROBLEM 5.1 As it is explained in the Exxon example, a firm might use a Divisional WACC, by identifying comparison firms(comps). These are firms that would have a similar risk and capital structure than the division for which we are trying to find a divisional WACC. The idea is to use an average WACC of these firms as an estimate WACC for our division. This would reduce the risk of the firm taking overinsting/underinvisting in its divisions. PROBLEM 5.2 Our project, since it has very low risk, could be an adding value project. This can be explained the following way: With the new project the firm would have a different WACC, since it’s Beta would change ( the very low beta of the project would influence the current firm’s beta, which would lead to a lower required rate of return). We must compare this new WACC with the expected return of the average of the firm’s current WACC and the project’S IRR. If this expected rate of return is higher than the newly calculated firm’s WACC, it would mean that the project is a value-increasing investment. PROBLEM 5.7 a. While the Domestic Beer and International Beer could be seen as a similar business segment, I think it would be necessary to have different cost of capital for each of this business segments for the following reasons: They may be selling almost the same product, but the circumstances around them are really different. Geographic, political, economical differences lead to risk differences...
