Compare/Contrast Paper

This research report will compare and contrast the poverty level, financial, spiritual, physical, and support system for the regions for Georgia and Alabama. These states are both southern states that border each other. Alabama is the heart of Dixie and Georgia is known as the empire state of the south, because of its rich peach crops. Both states have a lot of history. Most of Alabama's history coming from slavery and Georgia's history dealing a lot with the people who impacted freedom. History played a big part in poverty’s life style and how it became all about. The following points will discuss how many different aspects of life are related to the way people in the states live each and every day.

For many years the finances in Alabama was ruled by their cotton crops. When their cotton crops were poor the economy suffered. Many crop failures cause the people to look at other varieties of crops to make money. In the 1900s heavy industry became a part of Alabama’s leading mineral resources Alabama also depended on mining as a chief source by producing natural gas, limestone, and coal. On the other hand, Georgia economy and finances were ruled by fruits and peanuts. Additional sources of income in Georgia were the mining of copper and manganese. They also produced alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The economy in Georgia suffered due to civil strife. Since 1995 the World Bank helped Georgia achieve growth and avoid inflation.

In the early years of Alabama there was some literacy in the state. In 1854 they established there public school system. There had separate schools for colors and whites. The supreme court of the United States put a stop to school segregation, and by 1973 most of the schools had been integrated in the states. Children 7- 15 are required by Alabama law to attend school.
