Skiing and snowboarding compare and contrast essay
The University of Montana Tech

Skiing and snowboarding have many similarities such as edges, boots and balance. Along with these similarities, there are also many differences. As a ski instructor I have been able to collect a lot of knowledge on skiing and snowboarding. Both options are viable, and I have done both forms of riding but one of the two is better. If I were to choose between the two options I would choose skiing over snowboarding because of the forward orientated stance, the safety of the boots and the extra edges that help to make sharper turns.
Skis and snowboards both have metal edges that are on the outside of the board or ski, these make it possible to turn and maneuver through the snow. If these edges get chipped or damaged in any way it makes it more difficult to turn and gives the rider a less enjoyable experience. It is easier to keep the edges of ski sharper because it is possible to maneuver and pick up the ski and keep them away from things like rocks and stumps. Another plus side to skiing is that Skis have four edges, this allows a skier to make sharper turns because they have two edges in the ground at all times. Similarly, Snowboards have edges too but they only have two edges which makes it harder to maneuver through tighter spices. Contrary to skiing both feet are strapped to one board making it hard to avoid obstacle and keep the edges and base of the board from being harmed. If a board or skis base gets torn up it makes it so the rider will go slower.
Both ways to get down the mountain require special boots that hook in to bindings connected to the ski or snowboard. Ski boots are made of hard plastic which makes it so that the boots are very heavy. Ski boots are expected to be safely worn for four years, and they are usually more expensive then boarding boots. ...Compare and Contrast Essay “Vacationing at the Beach or in the Mountains” By AJ Brammer People are always looking forward to their vacation period. There are many options where to choose. I think that the two most common places people choose for taking a vacation are the beaches and the mountains. Both places offer a variety of fun activities. The beach offers activities that the mountain cannot offer and vice versa. The mountain and the beach are totally different. The purpose of this essay is to contrast the climate, types of activities and locations of beaches and mountains. I’m going to discuss mountains first. The three aspects I’m going to discuss are climate, types of activities and location. Climate is always important in order to enjoy vacations. If a person dislikes cold weather, he or she might have a hard time in the mountains. The cold climate in the mountains is the first barrier to enjoying them, but the climate and the temperature of these zones also determine the types of activities they offer. Snowboarding, mountain climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and skiing are some activities people can enjoy when going to the mountains. There are many regions that have mountains where people can go and have a great vacation. Canada is a country located in North America and contains many mountain vacation sites where people can go and have fun. I’m going to discuss the beach second. The three aspects I’m going to discuss are climate, types of activities and location...

Redbull

...Target Segmentation 1.1 Introduction Red Bull is a non-alcoholic energy drink and therefore falls under the category of soft drinks. Soft drinks can be divided into sub-segments and one of these segments is energy and sports drinks. These can be divided again into three different categories: • Glucose energy drinks • Sport drinks • High energy stimulation drinks • Since 1996 the market of soft drinks has grown by 5% and by 1997 it reached a total amount of £6.896bn, which is an equivalent of 10bn liters. Moreover we can say that the segment of energy and sports drinks represents 2.6% or £177m of the overall soft drink market. Since 1992 an increase of 64% in volume sales can be found within this very young market of energy and sports drinks. • The main differences of the three above mentioned sub-segments of soft drinks are as followed 1.2 Glucose Energy Drinks These drinks provide physical energy through glucose or a mixture of sugars. Originated from the Lucozade brand. These drinks do not contain any other substantial ingredients such as Lucozade Energy, Lucozade NRJ or Red Card. In 1927 they were originally positioned as a convalescence drink. 1.3 Sports drinks Also known as isotonic drinks, replaces body fluids after sport activities or exercises. Sport drinks help to re-energize and re-hydrate the body and can be taken before, during or after exercises. That’s because you should drink it in great amounts and fairly quickly, they are usually...

Red Bull

...1. HISTORY In 1982, Dietrich Mateschitz learned about so-called “tonic drinks”, which enjoyed wide popularity in Asia.  While he was sitting in the bar at the Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong he got the idea of marketing those particular functional drinks outside Asia.  This was not a new idea, but a variation on the Lucozade theme, another popular energy drink marketed by Smith Kline Beecham.  However, Red Bull included other ingredients to achieve a different flavor. (Figure 1: Red Bull Founder- Dietrich Mateschitz) So it was that in 1984, Mateschitz founded the Red Bull GmbH company. He fine-tuned the product, developed a unique marketing concept and started selling Red Bull Energy Drink on the Austrian market in 1987. Red Bull rapidly gained in popularity, giving people wings right from the start.  In 1992, Red Bull touched down in its first foreign market, in Hungary. Today, Red Bull is energizing over 100 countries around the globe, such that many superstores have copied the idea with their own brand products, which invariably are inferior in one aspect or another.Red Bull, who is originally from Austria where it is still produced, distributed their energy drink in over twenty countries. Countries like USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Eastern and Western Europe. Today, the slinky 8-3-OZ can has completed its invasion into nearly every cold box in the United States. (Ohio, Tennessee and the Dakotas are among the few states without it.) In less than three years, Red Bull...

Strategic Market Segment

...Confirming Proofs Chapter 3 Strategic Market Segmentation Segmenting markets is a foundation for superior performance. Understanding how buyers’ needs and wants vary is essential to designing effective marketing strategies. Effective approaches to segmenting markets may be one of the most critical factors in developing and implementing market-driven strategy. The need to improve an organization’s understanding of buyers is escalating because of buyers’ demands for uniqueness and the growing array of technology available to generate products to satisfy these demands. Companies are responding to the opportunities to provide unique customer value with products ranging from customized phone pagers for business users to self-designed, individualized greeting cards for consumers. Indeed, McKinsey research underlines the weakness of thinking about markets only in general terms—talking of market trends, growth markets, mass markets, declining markets, and so on—and collecting information that describes only broad trends, where differences within markets are averaged-out. They point to the identification of opportunities from a deeper understanding of markets at a “granular” level. Market fragmentation and increasing granularity characterize a growing number of markets. The compelling logic of market granularity is that effective strategy can emerge only from a much finer understanding of market segments, their needs, and the capabilities required to serve them.1 Best Buy provides an interesting...

Silkwood Imc

...2. Executive summary • Two countries researched for potential market entry of Silkwood Wines, using macro-environmental (PEST) analysis, are Argentina and New Zealand. • Argentina is an attractive market for winemakers from ‘target-market’ point of view, but it is not a good time to commence exporting to this country. Unfavourable political and economic situation are the strongest factors that influence this decision. High physical, psychic, cultural and linguistic distances from Australia represent additional potential complications. • New Zealand on the other hand offers less opportunity for profits, but being physically, psychically, culturally and linguistically close to Australia, with a favourable applicable tariff rates and historically good relationship, it is a safe option. • American slightly positive GDP growth in the last quarter and some other latest statistics indicate that the worst times relating to world financial crisis is in the past. Nevertheless, world’s economists are prognosticating that long time is needed for full recovery. Some countries are still in recession and Argentina is battling hard to come out as a winner. Higher risks are associated with these hard times, thus a safer option is recommended. • Taking all this into consideration and the facts that Silkwood Wines are inexperienced in exporting and have limited human and financial resources, I recommend New Zealand as the best country for initial entry. With characteristics above described...
