My Compare and contrast paper is about what the secular world presents about the dating and mating process and how the Lord directs us to date and mate. I will be speaking about several different areas of dating from a secular world and what the bible tells us about how to date and finding our mate from GOD aspect. I also will give my personal opinion on how I believe most people pick their mate.
The world always paints a pretty picture of how marriage should be. The women finds her prince charging, he rescue’s her from danger, they ride away on a horse into the sun light they get married and live happily ever after. It might be the little rhyme kids use to sing, “Adam and Ashley sitting in a tree k i s s i n g. first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage. As the saying goes, finding a mate does not always go in that way, shape or form. Society says,” men feel most attracted to women whose waist are smaller than their hips which signifies her fertility” (perilloux et al., 2010) meaning she has a “coke bottle shape”. Woman should have perfect body, muscles, tall, deep trembling voice. They should dress nice, have a good job, live and drive the best. If you come across someone who doesn’t fit this appearance you have settled for less. Secular world presents that we should engage into intercourse with a mate to express our love into an even deeper matter. A survey was taken from 289,452 students entering college in the United states about sex, 58 percent of men but only 34 percent of women agreed it was okay “if two people really like each other for them to have sex even if they’ve know each other for a very short time” (pryor et al., 2005).
The bible has numerous scriptures about the marriage, sex, being in love, but doesn’t really say anything about dating. However, it does reveal some principles that we should follow if we are presently or considering being innovated in dating and possibly marriage. One thing GOD says is in (1 Corinthians 6:14-15) that we should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, meaning that we should only be involved or connected to someone that believes, does, and follows the orders GOD has given us as his people to live by. God requires us to present our body as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto him. I believe GOD gives us the desire to be married, at the same time we are still flesh. We have our fleshly desires but we cannot let that make us walk in a way that we go against what GOD said we should do and that is to abstain from Sex until marriage (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5) that we have should know how to control our own body not committing fornication until we are married.
My view point in the matter is to always wait to have sex, until you are married. When you are dating people and really like that person, sometimes that like doesn’t mean they are the one GOD attends for you to marry. So many people date people, and give themselves to so many people and continue that cycle that when their mate finally comes(if they do come) they are all used up and given out; Have nothing to give their mate at all. We should pray and ask GOD to keep us, especially out of those types of situations that will cause us to fall into sin. We have to keep ourselves around people that are like minded, wanting to do the will of GOD, able to encourage us and keep us in the right frame of mind, just being a support system to each other.

Dating and Mating

...Running head: DATING AND MATING BIBLICAL AND SECULAR VIEWS 1 Compare And Contrast Randall W. Ames Liberty University DATING AND MATIING BIBLICAL AND SECULAR VIEWS 2 Dating and Mating Biblical and Secular Views In the beginning God saw it was not good that man should be alone and he created a mate called woman. Since that time men and women have engaged in dating and mating. There are however many different views on this subject. There is clearly a biblical view of dating and mating and secular view of dating and mating. The most popular way of finding a date now is the Internet dating sites; Macarthur says that compatibility is the holy grail of Internet dating services (Macarthur, 2009). Many times the problem with seeking a mate through Internet dating sites we find there is no accountability. People are seeking compatibility, however it is difficult to find true compatibility because people have a tendency to spice up their profile. The secular view says follow your heart. It is a very self-oriented thought process. Are they compatible for me? Because the secular view is so inward looking it has led to astronomical numbers of people now believing that co-habitation is the best way to find out if they are compatible. This however, according to Myers has led to higher rates of divorce (Myers 2013). The secular self-oriented view is; will this person be compatible with me and...

...Courtship and Marriage Things You Must Consider Before You Marry By Pastor Ken Raggio Starting Out Alone We all begin as a solo act. We stand alone in the social scheme of things. We have birth relationships - father, mother, sisters, brothers. But in the course of maturing, we generally desire the companionship of additional people. We develop casual relationships through contacts we have in the various segments of society - our neighborhood, our school, our workplace, our church - to name a few. We often carry our casual relationships further as we experience positive and desirable interactions with others. Acquaintances become friendships. We endear ourselves to others with whom we find meaningful compatibilities. "Qualifying" Friendships Every person faces a vastly different challenge when it comes to forming meaningful relationships with others. Some people are extroverted, which means they are socially interactive. They are able to express themselves to others, or make conversation easily, which, over a period of time, creates a large pool of acquaintances from which friendships can be formed. As a rule, an extrovert is likely to have a larger number of prospects from which to choose a friend. On the other hand, an introvert generally lives a more isolated lifestyle, communicating with fewer people. It would stand to reason that the introvert might have fewer choices when it comes to selecting a friend. These personality differences do not...

This article employs psychological science to examine (a) whether online dating is fundamentally different from conventional offline dating and (b) whether online dating promotes better romantic outcomes than conventional offline dating. The answer to the first question (uniqueness) is yes, and the answer to the second question (superiority) is yes and no. To understand how online dating fundamentally differs from conventional offline dating and the circumstances under which online dating promotes better romantic outcomes than conventional offline dating, we consider the three major services online dating sites offer: access, communication, and matching. Access refers to users’ exposure to and opportunity to evaluate potential romantic...

... | There are probably many ways this misconception has crept into our language and our thought. One key factor is that we have tended to label Christian music as ‘worship’, and we often call the person who leads the singing in our churches ‘the worship leader’. Unfortunately, this has caused us to equate worship with singing. A second misconception is that ‘worship is something we do on special occasions’. Worship is what we do when we gather with God’s people. The activities that make up our Sunday services, such as the preaching, singing, offering, and communion are worship. This too is a serious misconception. Although it adds a few extra activities to singing, it is an inadequate understanding of worship. The biblical view of worship cannot be reduced to a set of activities we do at certain times and places. 1.2. Biblical terms The Bible uses many different...

Ancient Near Eastern

...case of this book, the goal is to understand the Old Testament within the context of the Ancient Near Eastern milieu. Walton explains that over the years there has been much debate on the issue of comparative study and the way in which it is to be exercised. Scholars, always biased by their presuppositions, tend to enter the argument negating the importance of the Old Testament on the one side, or defending the inerrancy of Scripture so vehemently that the cultural context is lost. Walton poses a better way, namely, accepting the study of the Ancient Near Eastern cultures as important and academic in their own right while attempting to comprehend the Old Testament in light of what modern scholarship is learning about the ancient world. Studies of this time period often center around who borrowed what literature from whom, but Walton insists that this is not the main issue that ought to be dealt with. Rather, studies of the literature and literary genres of the ANE should assist in the broader understanding of the society. Walton observes several areas that the text will deal with in further details. He first puts...

...What Is LGBT? LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and along with heterosexual they describe people's sexual orientation or gender identity. These terms are explained in more detail here. Lesbian A lesbian woman is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to women. Many lesbians prefer to be called lesbian rather than gay. Gay A gay man is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to men. The word gay can be used to refer generally to lesbian, gay and bisexual people but many women prefer to be called lesbian. Most gay people don't like to be referred to as homosexual because of the negative historical associations with the word and because the word gay better reflects their identity. Bisexual A bisexual person is someone who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to people of both sexes. Transgender or Trans Is an umbrella term used to describe people whose gender identity (internal feeling of being male, female or transgender) and/or gender expression, differs from that usually associated with their birth sex. Not everyone whose appearance or behaviour is gender-atypical will identify as a transgender person. Many transgender people live part-time or full-time in another gender. Transgender people can identify as transsexual, transvestite or another gender identity. Gender Identity One's gender identity refers to whether one feels male, female or transgender (regardless of one's biological...

The Text-Critical Problem of 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and the Evidences of Its Origin

...INTRODUCTION This thesis developed from an understanding that 1 Cor. 14:34-35 is an interpolation. Based on this affirmation, chapter one investigates both the meaning of vv. 34-35 within the context of Paul’s first extant letter to the Corinthians, and the original message of chapter fourteen without vv. 34-35. Chapter one also offers the most compelling reasons why a scribe would choose chapter fourteen as the place to insert an interpolation against women’s speech in the church. Finally, I examine the parallels between 1 Cor. 14:34-35 and 1 Tim. 2:9-15. Chapter two summarizes the argument that 1 Cor. 14:34-35 is an interpolation. In this chapter, first I investigate the issue of interpolation in ancient literature. Then, I present the arguments based on internal evidences that are both for and against the interpolation of 1 Cor. 14:34-35. Next, I provide a section on external evidences supporting a case of interpolation of vv. 34-35. In this final section we will investigate scribal awareness of multiple readings in Codex Vaticanus, Fuldensis and Ms. 88, which can be observed in some sigla left by the copyists of these texts. Chapter three examines the identity of the author(s) and the date of composition for both the interpolation in Corinthians and the Pastoral Epistles. Chapter three provides a survey on the role of women in the churches under Paul’s personal supervision. It also examines the ancient view of the role of women in the Greco-Roman society...
