Comparing Hitchcock's Relationships In Psycho (1960) And The Birds

Alfred Hitchcock directed many great movies; Psycho (1960) and the Birds (1963). As it shown in almost all of his movies, Alfred Hitchcock adds in a very prominents aspects of the dysfunctional of family in his work. Relationships with “mothers” are always problematic in Hitchcock movie. This is clear and most apparent in mothers and sons relationship. I believe this all derives from Hitchcock own odds relationship with his mother. He is also not a big fan of fathers relationship with sons, and this clear in his movies, for example, in both movies show that fathers dead before the movie and story start. It shows that they are close, but also there is something unclear between their relationship. Hitchcock creates his dysfunctional family around the character Norman. We can notice that from the first scene we see Norman; he is not fully normal. In fact, he is psycho, and especially true with his relationship to women and even birds. This is shown clear when he brings food for Marion, and she asked him to get in the room with her to eat, but he refused. The previous scene shows that Norman had trouble staying with a woman in bedroom, which shows that he is afraid of women and sex. After, Marion asks Norman some questions while she eats; those questions seem to be uncomfortable for Norman to answer. Those are all approves that there is something wrong with him. Then, she goes to her room and she takes shower and then at the sudden someone gets into the bathroom at kill Mation. At first, the audience not quite sure who killed her, is it the mother or it is even Norman?. The end of the movie gives the clear answer which is Norman. Norman was pretending that his mom is alive and she is extremely controlling over his life. The end of the movie shows that Norman’s mom is dead and he wears her clothes and he was the one that he kills Marion and the
