Comparing Night And Joshua's Life

"The life of man is a journey; a journey that must be traveled, however bad the roads or the accommodation" (Goldsmith, n.d.). This quote by Oliver Goldsmith (n.d.) focuses on how every life is a journey that they need to go on. No matter what happens in live, the only place to go is forward. In the movie "Life is Beautiful" (2000) and Elie Wiesel's (2006) book Night, Elie and Joshua's lives are not bright. They are going through one of the hardest times of their lives, whether they know it or not. God provided for both boys to keep their paths straight and keep them moving through the torturous times. With love, life is hard to live; thankfully, both Elie and Joshua had their fathers to stand beside them and give them the encouragement to …show more content…
They recoil at any strenuous times and do not put their trust on Christ. Nevertheless, God is always going to be there, even if they cannot feel Him. He has shown the provisions through Elie and through Joshua. Although he has provided for both boys, the ways he provided for the young boys are different and led to separate internal and external changes. In Night, God provided for Elie in an astounding amount of ways; for God gave Elie a compassionate Kommando, where he recovered extra rations and had the ability to stay with his father (Wiesel, 2006). In essence, God made sure Elie would have enough to make it out of the camp. God made Elie strong enough to survive, unlike the fate that most people in the camp had. Comparatively, Joshua was also given provisions from God, but in a different way. God made sure Joshua kept his innocence ("Life is Beautiful", 2000). God put amazing people in Joshua's life that protecting his innocence and he got to look at the holocaust in a more positive way. Both boys were given the chance to keep going throughout the time at the camp. They have similarly gotten their fathers with them, but the way they went through the camp are drastic …show more content…
For example, some relationships may be filled with love and respect, while others might have a relationship that is merely robotically answering one another. In the beginning of Night, Elie and his father do not have a strong relationship. Elie's father focuses more on the Jewish council than his family, and even when they talk, it is a laconic conversation (Wiesel, 2006). Elie is not close with his father and seeks mentorship with another older man rather than his father. In complete opposition, there is Joshua and his father. Joshua and his father are closer than any father and son can be, and their love portrays out of them for all to see. It is easily seen that they adore one another and want to spend every moment enjoying each other's company. Joshua's father would do anything for his boy and always made sure he was laughing or helped him hide when he was supposed to take a bath ("Life is Beautiful", 2000). Joshua's dad spent every time he could with his son, while Elie's father spent every time he could away from his son. Similarly, by the middle of each story, both relationships were very close. Elie and his father depended on one another once they got to the camp, and Joshua and his father stayed close. Additionally, both fathers died to give their sons a better life.Neither parent made it out alive, but their children did and their fathers will live within

...the Babylonian exile, and put it with people rewording of both the Tetrateuch and Jeremiah. The principles of Deuteronomy are that Israel must follow the Law, and gain God’s blessing or ignore it, get cursed, and be forced out of their homeland by Israel’s enemies.  4. In the book of Joshua, how is Joshua presented as the successor of Moses? Compare Deuteronomy 27 with Joshua 8.30-35. - Throughout the book, there appears to be continuity between Moses’ leadership and Joshua’s, with proof that God was developing this succession, and he had chosen the people as leaders. It kind of seems like before his death, God showed Moses into preparing Joshua to be his worthy successor, because Moses had picked Joshua to lead the Israelite army to battle. The reason was to receive the Ten Commandments up the mountain with him. It was also to guard the tent during the meeting of God and Moses. On the night prior to his death, Moses asked nearly begging God to provide a successor to take his place. God led Moses toward Joshua. When comparing Deuteronomy 27 to Joshua 8.30-35, the book of Joshua said that Joshua was obedient and that ‘There was not a word of all that Moses commanded that Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel’. It also says how Joshua built an altar on Mount Ebal, and wrote the laws God was telling him into stones. Deuteronomy appears to be a lot more detailed, it is instructing the people of Israel that they must do these actions, like in Joshua. 5. How is...

Survey of the Old Testament of the Bible

...Genesis The book of Genesis is primarily narrative scripture. Since Genesis is the first book of the entire bible, the focus is on GOD’s Creation and how through the lives of Noah, Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph, he demonstrates his power over them in maintaining his creation. The events of the Fall of man and the Flood are paramount in this book. Genesis begins with GOD creating the world, and everything, and everyone (Adam and Eve) in it. The Fall began when Adam and Eve disobeyed GOD, introducing sin into this world. As mankind multiplied, so did sin. GOD confirmed his power over all things in flooding the earth to rid it of sin, choosing only to keep Noah and his family. Abraham, descendent of Noah, and his lineage was then chosen by GOD in a covenant to be His new nation called Israel. Abraham’s son, Isaac, and Isaac’s son, Jacob continued to be chosen people, kept by GOD throughout trials and tribulations. Jacob’s son, Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers only to rule over them and the rest of his family in Egypt during a great famine of that time, closes out the book of Genesis. Exodus The book of Exodus is primarily narrative scripture. This book focuses on the oppression of GOD’s chosen people in Egypt, their departure and journey out of Egypt to the Promised Land led by Moses, and GOD’s covenant with them. Exodus begins where the book of Genesis ends with the 12 tribes of Israel now in Egypt given that Joseph, one of the 12, was...
