Biology is a huge subject with many sub branches, application and tools that have helped in the improvement of humanity. Bioinformatics is one of the many Biology branches, that is currently helping in medicine and other areas related to science. One of the ways it is doing it, is by improvement and be able to sequencing DNA (genome). Bioinformatics can be described as a science tool in which use computer technology to analyze, collect, storage, and retrieval of genomic data. There are different methods to sequence the genome of an organism, store and evaluate the information obtained. Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing are the most known methods.

All this process is possible with the help of new technology and software programs, such as Consed that enable the user to correct errors and edit the consensus. Consed can provide the user with a view of the consensus and previous sequences from Illumina and Roche/454. In addition, Consed used the file from phred and phrad to create one; phred assigns the number value to each read and phrad put the fragment or golden path together, producing the assembly view. In the process of understanding the chromosome 4, GEP has develop different research projects, were training is provided in how to improve and annotate DNA sequence. The purpose of GEP is to give the students the opportunity to students to study genomics and do research on different Drosophila species. The 4 chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster have been of interest since it possess heterochromatic and euchromatic characteristics. There are bases look more like euchromatin, even though they are not, it contains genes that resemble a euchromatic region but as a whole it appearance is like heterochromatin. After finishing and annotate the sequence on each project, a comparative analysis can be done by using the Drosophila melanogaster and the different Drosophila species of the projects.
