The characters in both films all had their strong points that made their performance increasingly impactful the more the films went on. Most began with a small show and specific role, but they quickly became more interesting because of the situations they are in. Seeing them overcome these obstacles draws the audience to the edge of their seats and gives the cities portrayed some character. In example, the ending scene in A Bronx Tale when Sonny has vanished but doesn’t leave the minds from those that respected him. That demonstrates the type of character that Sonny portrays, Colagero won’t forget him because of the lessons Sonny taught him and the times they had together. Evelyn Cross was one of the most important characters in Chinatown because of her knowledge of the overall situation that Mr. Gittes was trying to figure out. Probably the strongest words Evelyn Cross claimed is, “…she’s my sister, she’s my daughter…” That scene changed the point of view the film and the situation, it changed Mr. Gittes from wanted to take Evelyn Cross behind bars to want to protect her by helping her run away from her father. That symbolizes the difference in characters because in the other film, most of the parts that feature Jane are romanticized. How the characters acted in the cities were not a surprise but not completely expected, although the films were based on different periods of time, the cities were given similar characteristics but not similar appearances.
