Both “The Monkey's Paw” and “The Keys of Destiny” are very similar in many ways, but the most obvious similarity is that the author demonstrates that money, and everything comes with a price. Nothing is free. In comparison, both short stories also show that anyone can change their fate if they choose to. In contrast, both stories may be quite similar but in “The Monkey's Paw” the family wishes upon the given magical item. In “The Keys of Destiny” Sheikh Hasan Abdallah al-Ashar and the Bedouin lived in Egypt in the middle of a desert and search for a red magical powder that turns base metal into gold.
