Chapter 4
1. Look over the scope statement (PE Figure 4-1). If you were an employee at Petrie’s Electronics, would you want to work on this project? Why or why not?
I would, it seems to be a fairly straight forward project with nothing groundbreaking or too advanced for even a beginner and the concept of the rewards program is something most people are familiar with.

2. If you were part of the management team at Petrie’s Electronics, would you approve the project outlined in the scope statement in PE Figure 4-1? What changes, if any, need to be made to the document?

I would approve although the statement isn’t perfect, it includes the most important basic info needed but I would also include information about deliverables.

3. Identify a preliminary set of tangible and intangible costs you think would occur for this project and the system it describes. What intangible benefits do you anticipate for the system?

Tangible costs include things like outsourcing fees, hardware costs and training fees. The only intangible costs I can imagine would be the potentially less efficient employees because they will have a steeper learning curve with an outsourced system. Intangible benefits from the system will be increased customer loyalty/spending and increased competition in the market.

4. What do you consider to be the risks of the project as you currently understand it? Is this a low-, medium-, or high-risk project? Justify your answer. Assuming you were part of Jim’s team, would you have any particular risks?

It appears to be a low-risk project to me. There are so many examples in the industry to follow and the team will have no problem drawing up a blueprint or implementing it. The only risk I would have would be the uncertainty involved in the outsourcing.

Chapter 3
What qualities might Jim possess that would make him a successfulproject manager?

Things to Consider in Shifting

...demanding. It is the year when you begin to question the significance of your subjects to your course. It is the time when you ask yourself this question several times, “Para saan ba itong subject na ‘to?” Subjects like Philippine History, NSTP and Philippine Literature vaguely introduce the rudiments of the degree being pursued. For instance, associating Philippine History with taking care of patients in the pediatric ward is truly difficult. And who can explain the purpose of studying Trigonometry when your job is to treat patients who are already out of breath? Of course, minors like those mentioned in the previous paragraph lay the foundation of more advanced subjects. You are not taking them up for no reason. Most of these subjects are prerequisites. For instance, Physics is a prerequisite of most Radiologic Technology and Physical Therapy subjects. A good foundation in Biochemistry provides a better understanding of Nutrition and Diet Therapy. When confronted with such dilemmas, many students cry, “Are these subjects really necessary for my course?” or “Do I really need these subjects to call myself a [insert your aspired job title here]?” Failure to discover the connection between the minor subject and the pursued course is one of the reasons why students fail in class. Because of the inability to associate the subject to the profession, many students start to lose interest and neglect the subject. At the end of the semester, the student earns a failing mark and will...

Ffcs Subject Trading

...FFCS SUBJECT TRADING SYSTEM Parth Sehgal SITE VIT University, Vellore parth270592@yahoo.co.in, +917200306616 Sreejita Dutta SITE VIT University, Vellore sreejita.dutta@gmail.com +918870452693 ABSTRACT This project is based on algorithm which is designed to implement trading between two or more people. It is designed for finding out various ways to get the item required by a person by subsequent trading between people acting as intermediataries in the process and themselves getting the item they want in exchange for item they offer to trade. This project implements the algorithm by making an interface to find out the possible solutions to exchange subjects between students during FFCS (Fully Flexible Credit System) subject registration. Thus the said items for trading in this case are the subjects of FFCS. Current system of FFCS assigns random predefined slot timings to students during which they can perform their registration. Subjects are allocated on the basis of ‘first come first serve’. Although add/drop of subjects is allowed, there is no facility for exchange of subjects among students. Presently the algorithm just shows the basic implementation of the exchange process involving a certain number of people. By using PHP and other web technologies as well as appropriate databases, this proposed system can be used to exchange subjects over the internet. The trading algorithm can be utilized for other goods and/or systems functioning on the basis of two people transactions...

Animal Testing

...many human lives would have been lost without the development of cures for some of the diseases mentioned above. Penicillin, which was developed from animal research testing, has saved over two hundred million lives since its discovery in 1928. I love animals just as much as the next person but the number of human lives that have been saved, in my opinion, outweigh the cons of animal testing. On the subject of “if animal testing is ethical or unethical” my opinion is not as strong, mainly because myself and most other people do not know exactly how the experiments are ran. According to the APA, scientists have a strict code of ethics that each must uphold when it comes to animals testing or they will lose their job; but how do we really know that these scientists are following these codes to a tee? We can only hope that each laboratory follows these strict guidelines. In psychological testing of animals, alternatives are being used more frequently in this day and time. A scientist can “use a computer to model a rat’s behavior” but prefer observing a live animal. A computer is not able to...

Sentence Construction and Style

...Kerry Kempink Mrs. Morris ENC 1102-69980 24 April 2008 Sentence Construction and Style It has been argued for decades on why the first year of college is so important for a student. The first year of college is generally filled with attending class and completing work for courses that seem to have little to no noteworthy importance on what a student wants to achieve a degree in. Some courses for example, humanities and psychology, endow students with just enough information to give the student a broad idea of what the subject matter the student is enrolled in is really about. Writing courses are no different from information based classes. In a writing course however, a student is expected to complete a task that few other courses will expect from him. The areas of concern are many for writing instructors, but places where progress is most often desired are in the areas of development or sentence construction and wording also known as style. Writing style is the manner in which a writer addresses a matter in prose, a manner which reveals the writer's personality, or “voice.” It is particularly evident in the choices the student makes in syntactical structures, diction, and figures of thought. Why is writing style important? Writing style is what depicts how the reader reads the essay. For example, the statements, the journalist has a very journalistic style, or the scholar's style is too scholarly, reveal the redundant and misleading nature of talking about style...

Holograms are used today but may be used in the future during interrogation and interview rooms. Holograms would actually be put in place of the actual interrogator or interviewer. The benefit of this technology is using an image of the victim with hopes of scaring a confession from the criminal. Another use would be in a hostage situation, the hologram could act as the negotiator. How far are scientists willing to go? Common Difficulties Encountered by High School Students in Philippines

...in dealing with such pressures. Many students will not admit their problems due to various reasons and this may eventually hamper a student’s psyche. In Metro Manila, the most common problem a student encounter is their difficulty with certain academic subjects. Nowadays, most schools have five major subjects- Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, English, and Filipino. Although different opinions are made regarding these subjects, it is evident that certain factors affect the level of difficulty of the said subjects. One is the teaching method of the teachers. It is possible that the techniques, including the materials such as the visual aids or presentations used by the teachers, are not effective. Second is the student’s own knowledge and capability. Some are gifted with critical thinking and good analysis which make them perfect for subjects’ Math and Science; while others have good grammar and vocabulary which makes them excellent for subjects’ English and Filipino. However, there are students who are simply industrious and determined. They can excel in almost any subject since they are committed to get good grades. While there are passionate students, there are also those who are lazy and/or troubled in certain subjects. In relation to this, a research will be...
