CONDUCT BUSINESS RESEARCH

For a business to achieve its objectives and goals it must come from the entire company. From management to employees, it must be understood and a common goal of the entire company. In order to find what is needed to get a company back on track and to achieve organization, there must be research performed in all the areas in the company to find out what is falling behind. Business research allows the company to obtain analysis that may provide educated business decision. In business research, it is the responsibility of the management team, after doing their thorough research, to devise or implement a working plan that will help the company excel and train the employees how to maintain a profitable business. Often times businesses go off of a theory that they have investigated and are in high hopes it will work to their advantage. The only way to do this is work is to implement it into the business place and see if the theory makes things more or less profitable, or if it actually hinders the existing working method. Business research can be defined as an organized analysis that provides information to guide business decisions (Cooper and Schindler, 2006) Research is the only way a company can process data that is gathered in order to test their theory. One example is Wal-Mart, this is a discount store that has been thriving since 1962, originally in the mid-west, it has migrated to the west of the United States. First established in Bentonville, Arkansas, by Sam Walton. Wal-Mart made a profitable move by becoming a general merchandise store that offered vision, photography as well as groceries, becoming a one stop shopping center. In order to prosper you must be able to solve problems, seize opportunity, and adapt throughout adversity. Our company faced an opportunity/problem. The opportunity was to receive a renovation and upgrade, the problem was the business was 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Research Questions The research questions we developed were; How long will the total process take? Doing most of the work at night will be smartest? Doing work at what time could affect profit? Professionals, organizations, and the public must be able to trust that research is being reported honestly, accurately, and free from bias. Questionable research misconduct can include poor data management, the failure to share data, questionable data selection methods, inadequate supervision of those conducting the research, and fiscal mismanagement ("Research Misconduct", 2012). Recently a large case of research fraud was brought against Dr. Kipak K. Das by the University of Connecticut. The allegations of research fraud involve 26 articles published in 11 different journals claiming the health benefits of drinking red wine. According to the article, “University Suspects Fraud by a Researcher Who Studied Red Wine”, the university received anonymous allegations in January 2009 about irregularities in Dr. Das’ research. An investigation into Das’ research articles revealed 145 instances of fabrication and falsification of data (Wade, 2012). Allegations received by the university reference lab members manipulating figures, often at the request of Dr. Das, and digitally manipulating the experiments (western-blot images) done in the studies. Between 2006 to 2009 the city of New Haven hired the company to investigate people and businesses that owe for vehicle or personal property taxes. O'Brien is accused of adding accounts to the grand list, withholding payment for accounts researched by TDS, reducing personal property assessments, and even removing accounts added by the Assessor before him (Smith, 2010). The unethical research behavior that was involved in this case was financial misconduct. By removing and adding accounts as well as misconstruing numbers in the accounts he is squandering the work done by the tax investigation firm. Misrepresentation is also involved because by distorting the numbers he is providing falsified data to the taxpayers of the city as well as the government. Not only does this hurt the tax payer, but by falsifying numbers it can make the city look more profitable than it really is.
