We all live in a society where the consumption of product is a way of life . But why do you make the choices that we make?. Which are the instruments used to convince us that buying “that thing” is exactly what we need . Aristotle explained that people can be influenced must likely by persuasive appeals falling into three categories. Based on logic , emotions or character. But when we want to have a look into each one of this appeals separately we realize that this appeals can not be separated easily .
That fact in most effectively used in advertisements,where you will find them been used in combination .The reason is that advertising's are design to reach as many people as possible and do it as effectively as they can. From the adds that i have seen on television most of the time the ads follow this line: Logic is used when trying an appeal to the human mind ,making you that the offered presented is the most rational option. Attached to this appeal we can find ad's of tools or industrial material.But also insurance can came through the logic door.For example -buy car insurance because is statistically proven that 1 on every 2 people are involved in an accident in their life time Emotional ads are design to make you feel like you need something or that you are lacking something in your life. Attached to this appeal we can find ad's about food candy's or style related items.In addition there are oder type of ad's . For example- those who will make you feel unsecured in your home so you will buy a house alarm. Character ads are design to make you trust the company or the person advertising it.This ads can be used to promote almost any product.For example-The former president advertising for the Red Cross organization.

But this advertisements don’t always do a good in matching the appeals they are projecting to the product they are selling.As can be seen in the next examples.

This examples are from real companies; In regard to the logic appeal , the car insurance company example from before comes from-“Geico”. This insurance company has adopted this green little lizard cartoon as they main advertisement. And i wander if a more logical approach with a real and respected character won’t be more effective when appealing for logic.

As for the emotional example (house alarm)- “honeywell home alarm company”(as i recall) , produced an ad advertising showing a very scary brake in into a house ,that add was so strong that i think people went to buy a gun not an alarm.So sometimes companies advertisements just go to far and miss they market share to other markets(private guns).

Finally as for the character example-i think bringing president Clinton to advertise for the red cross was a great add that surely made people look at that organization more highly and as a more trustworthy and prestigious one.
