Copyright violation and illegal downloading
Copyright violation and illegal downloading have been a major problem for the entertainment industry. People all over the world downloading songs, movies, books etc. Without knowing that they might be breaking the law.

1.
In text 1 Peter Sunde is telling us his attitude to the media industries willing to evolve like every other kinds of industries. And when somebody like him are trying to go up against them, he tells a story which is very close to Hollywood’s own mafia films, where corruption and false play is a part of the daily diet. He believes that copying movies is not wrong, and that moviepiracy should become legal. He also makes it clear, that he thinks people and organizations who oppose the legalization of movie are at fault, and therefore should change themselves. Peter Sunde also urges people to fight against the copyright violation law, and to stop letting a corrupt industry control the internet.
Opposite Peter Sunde, Wendy Cope intensively fights copyright violation, first of all by writing and publishing her article ”You like my poems? So pay for them”, but also by writing on the subject ”copyright violation” in an attempt to stop the spread of the ignorance of the copyright law. In her article she points out different reasons for there to exist a law protecting author’s and moviemakers from being robbed their work and money, and why internet piracy is wrong. One of the reasons and arguments is that many author’s make a living by selling their work. Not buying an author’s work and casually sharing it would prevent the author from making their living, because she believes that internet piracy must have an effect on the books that are being sold. In the end, though, she admits that it is difficult to stop internet piracy from hapenning.

2.
In both of the texts, the tone is determined but not unfriendly. The language is cultivated, without hostile and aggressive terms. In text two’s four comments referring to Peter Sunde’s article, the use of sarcasm and irony is obvious. Through the comments, the reader is also able to sense indirect allusions. The commentators use a coffee shop as an example to make people more able to relate to the topic. It is also noticeable that the examples given in the comments includes the reader on a personal basis, and makes the reader either seem like the producer or the “customer” “I’ll be allowed to charge you for every piece of cake or cookie you look at but I don’t have to give it to you” (p.4, s.2-6). In a comment on the Internet, it can almost be expected that the commentators will be using cyber language, which surprisingly cannot be seen in the few chosen comments.
The length of the text in a comment is among others one of the things which characterizes a comment. A comment has to be short, but the commentator’s opinion and message still has to shine through.
The language used in the comments is very easy to understand and does not consist of difficult technical terms or terminology.
On the other hand, in text three, Wendy Cope uses many poems through the text to express herself and her opinions. She also takes use of many short sentences “Another beef concerns literary festival.” (P.6, s. 100), but opposite the comments, she writes much more. She takes good time and space to write on the topic, and uses many examples from her own life as a substance. She does not use indirect allusions; instead, she is very clear about her opinion “He knows all too well that I am obsessed with copyright.”

3.
I believe that Wendy Cope has double standards, and I almost believe in her being a little bit hypocritical. The reason for my belief is that she openly and clearly posts other authors poems in her article, and even her own poems, but at the same time isn’t fond of an author’s work being published in a place, where everybody and everyone has free access to it.
In her article she also claimed, she had asked her sister if she wanted a copy of a poem, which I believe gives the readers a bad impression of her.

Though she has a positive attitude, and claims she wants to stop people from illegally sharing poems, she does not herself do the same in her article. This is one of the main causes, which I think prevents the stop of Internet piracy.
Although I agree that it is difficult, if not impossible, to stop Internet piracy. I believe the reason for this is, just like john Clayton expresses in his comment, where one doesn’t unwillingly want to be ripped off, if the movie isn’t worth buying.
I do not think there should be a law protecting the copyright of music, texts and films; because I do not believe that, there is anything in it, which needs protection. I do not believe in the idea of paying lots of money for every movie you want to watch. I do not believe that being an author is some kind of a career, which will make you a living; I see it more as a hobby.
Everyone, especially here in Denmark, has access to all the books and poems and movies for free through their local library. Therefore, borrowing the movie from the library or “borrowing” it from the Internet does not seem different in my world.
If the movie is worth it, I would personally not mind buying it, but otherwise I would not mind watching it with my friends on the Internet either. The only thing preventing me to do so would be that I do not like and I do not support any kind of violation to the law.

Deviance and Internet Piracy

...Deviance? Defined as anything of violation of the norm. In the sociological perspective of functionalist, deviance is important for society to remain functional. For it contributes to the social order. Piracy is defined as an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea. The idea of categorizing the transgression of private rights in creative works as "piracy" predates statutory copyright law. The Sean Parker joined friend Shawn Fanning and started the file-sharing service Napster in 1999. Napster's popularity among music lovers quickly escalated. Within its first year, the service attracted tens of millions of users, but also became a target of the music industry, which saw the start-up as a huge threat to its business. Napster was opposed by recording labels, the Recording Industry Association of America, and the heavy metal band Metallica, among others. Lawsuits by various industry associations eventually shut down the service Napster has been called the fastest growing business of all time, is credited with revolutionizing the music industry, and is considered by some to be a precursor to iTunes. I can actually agree with what happened, as piracy is wrong. But I must stress that it was a needed action. Which resulted in all of these companies expanding their industry. Focusing the music, film industry into evolving. Expanding. Into the new era, the era of the internet. In February 2003, Dotcom set up another company called Data Protect Limited, but changed...

Various Computer Crimes

...increased our dependence on computers and networks, which also led to the growth in new form of crime –“cyber crime” throughout the world. In the first chapter of Principle of Cybercrime, Clough describers the various definitions of cybercrime. It can be defined as crime that committed through internet on a computer. It uses computer as a tool to commit the crime like child pornography, fraud, copyright, piracy and etc. However, computer can also be a targeted victim. There are various types of cyber crime such as hacking, spamming, malware, and etc. More serious, cybercrime can move on to cyberterrorism which the attack on a computer is political, national security, or religious based. In the cyberspace, I believe that cybercrime is same as traditional crime that has three major categories, which are crime against person, crime again poverty, and crime against government. First, cyber crime against person is included cyber-stalking, threat, harassment or even violence/murder in a cyberspace. However, how did law perceive these problems? The law has suggested physical ground. In the case of violence and murder in a gameworld is hard to justify if it can consider as offences since no one is physical injured. Second, cyber crime against poverty includes hacking, fraud, spamming, and spreading virus. Cyber criminals can transform harmful programmers to other computer through internet in order to access to personal information or modify data. Third and most serious type of cyber crimes...

Australian Media Regulation

...for games. The highest rating for a game in Australia is MA15+ which is suitable for players of 15 years or older. Australia is the only country allowing 15-18 year olds to play Grand Theft Auto IV World of Warcraft when other democracies decided it was only suitable for adults. Although subjected to the same regulations under the category of online media by ACMA, these rules extent only till Australian-hosted sites. Gamers could simply circumvent the system by buying R18+ games online from stores offshore or downloading them illegally (Crawford & Lumby, 2011). It’s a serious concern in other-wise safer system. Terry Flew suggests that classifications developed in North America by the Entertainment Software Review Board (ESRB) or the Pan European Games Initiative (PEGI) could be deemed to apply to all games sold in Australia, unless the Classification Board chose to exercise its own discretionary powers in relation to games with higher level content, such as realistic violence (Flew, 2012). The report put forth new regulatory regime called the concept of Content Service Enterprise (CSE). It is defined particularly for Australian local media content providers (largest) who have over 500,000 Australian users per month, and $50m per annum of revenues from Australian-source for supplying the professional TV like content to the market (Anon., 2012). The plan is that in this manner the local content would be protected in a number of ways. But why isn’t these principles needed to be extended...

How Has Social Media Affected Music Business in Recent Times

...has advanced with great strides and in the future will most likely be perceived as the true beginning of the digital age. The digital age has undoubtedly advanced humanity in many aspects, including in music, but is not without its problems. Piracy is a major cause for concern in the music industry caused by a lack of control within the music distribution channels, particularly in the earlier stages of p2p file sharing. This was a time when the industry did not really know how to react to digital music downloads; to embrace or fight it. Regardless of legal issues and lawsuits still happening today in digital downloading, it is important to acknowledge that illegal downloads are still a big part of the music industry, a fact that all Audio Engineers should realise. “IFPI estimates around 95 percent of tracks are downloaded without payment to copyright holders” (IFPI 2009) It is generally perceived and noticeable by most of a certain age or intellect that the music industry...

Rapper “Nas” titled his eighth album in 2006 with this statement, and has caused a controversy among rap artists and listeners all over the world. But comparing today`s hip hop music with the roots of hip hop can we really claim that hip-hop is really dead? If so, what are the facts that lead in the death of hip hop? What does its demise mean for the average fan? How to bring it back? Does it mean the genre will go down in irrelevance like what happened in disco music? All these questions will be investigated during this paper, and to understand this complicate statement itself, we should figure out what the statement really means. Maybe it is the fact that most of the genre’s songs and music videos look exactly the same. Maybe it’s the mainstream hip-hop game’s emphasis in ridiculously shinning jewelry, the sexism and the focus on money and women. Better yet, according to Mickey Hess, “hip-hop’s...
