Corrie Ten Boom

Who is Cornelia Arnolda Johanna ten Boom? Cornelia Arnolda Johanna ten Boom is known as Corrie her whole life. Corrie was the youngest out of two sisters, and one brother. She was named after her mother Cornelia Arnolda Johanna. Corrie was born on April 15, 1892 in Haarlem, Netherlands near Amsterdam. She lived in the “Beje” house, which was above her father's watch shop. Her family members were strict calvinists the Dutch reformed church. They have very high respect for the Jews in Amsterdam.
In 1922 Corrie became the first woman licensed as a watchmaker in Holland. In addition to working in her father's shop over the next decade she established a youth group club for teenage girls. She gave religious instructions, as well …show more content…
Her and her family saved nearly 800 lives. When Corrie and her family were sold out by another Dutch citizen, on February 28, 1944, and around 35 Jews were caught with the Boom’s. Soldiers searched the house but never found the half-dozen Jews safely hidden in the hiding place. The six Jews that weren't caught stayed in a very small space for almost three days before being rescued by the Dutch underground. Corrie was arrested and taken to the Ravensbruck concentration camp. She went out of her way to save Jewish lives, she didn’t think of herself or what would happen to her if she was caught. “A hero is someone who thinks of others before themselves.”That’s what I think the definition of a hero is, and Corrie Ten Boom is all of that and above. If she was alive today I don’t think that she would be considered to be a hero. Why I don’t think that she would be considered a hero today is because if someone hid someone in a secret room then nothing would happen it’s as if you are playing hiding seek. But if there was another war or if a specific group was being disincluded and it was dangerous then if you hid someone from the opposing side then she would be considered a hero, it depends on the

Corrie Ten Boom Research Paper

...Corrie Ten Boom was a Christian Dutch watchmaker who was a part of the underground Resistance during World War II. She hid Jews in a hiding place at her family’s house in the city of Haarlem in The Netherlands. She was very kind and tried to help everyone she could. Corrie lived through the hardships of World War II, went through pain and sickness, but still bared through. Corrie’s underground Resistance work started when a Jew came to the front door of her house asking for shelter. Corrie knew that keeping Jews in their house was a risk of safety, but she let the Jew come in anyway. Corrie, Betsie, their father, and the Jew talked over tea, and Corrie’s family decided to let the Jew stay. Over a period of time, more Jews came and stayed in the house. Some Jews would be sent to houses that were safer, but some still stayed at Corrie’s house. The Jews were given ration cards and fake identity cards by the Resistance, which covered up their real identity and allowed access to food. When hiding Jews became more dangerous, the Resistance workers decided that the Ten Boom’s house needed a hiding place for the Jews. A building designer built the hiding place in Corrie’s room behind the bookshelf....
