Cortes v.s Moctezuma Who was Cortes and Montezuma? Hernán Cortés was conquistador and a landowner in Cuba. Montezuma was an Aztec Emperor. They were similar and different in many ways.
Moctezuma along with the other aztecs believed that Cortes was the God “Quetzalcoatl”. Even tho he looked like any other spaniard. He had red hair which represented fire, rode on top of a mysterious beast that seemed invincible, and the most important he had a white skin tone that the Aztecs have never seen before. Moctezuma was a darker skinned tone man with long black hair and dark beard. They are different by how welcoming Moctezuma was to Cortes and the Spaniards to his city, yet Cortes did nothing but turn down his gifts and sought to convert them all
