Discuss the project plan: The lean management program is designed to improve employee productivity and customer satisfaction in our blood and urine laboratory by renovating the existing laboratory space and implementing new standards. This will be done in several different ways, the first is by renovating the storage area to provide more storage overall while at the same time removing a dangerous habit of the laboratory staff by over-stocking the inadequate shelving units that are located in the storage area. This poses not only a risk of injury but is also against OSHA regulations of “stacking items on shelving units within eighteen inches of the ceiling”. The second way that this will help improve employee productivy is by reducing the amount of time it takes to retrieve needed supplies, by streamline the storage process it will remove wasted time that it takes for laboratory technicians to retrieve the supplies needed.
Buissness case: The current case of affairs is for customers to enter the laboratory and retrieve a ticket number from the counter, when their ticket is called they are processed at the front desk then moved to another waiting area. Once they are next in line they are taken to an individual curtained off room and a technician finds out if they are there for a blood draw or a urine sample. The technician then retrieves the needed supplies and returns to the customer who then provides the needed sample. The technician then labels the specimen and takes it to the back of the laboratory for processing. The plan once the lean management program is implemented is for a customer to enter the laboratory and check in, at this time the customer will receive an electronic buzzer. When the customer’s electronic buzzer goes off it will inform them of the room number to head to where a technician will be waiting will the necessary supplies required for
