Creating a Plan for Positive Influence
In the 21st Century, America has shifted from individual using his or her skills to combining different employees to a group to get more work production. This is a fairly new process to many human resource departments in the United States. Companies and organizations are continuingly seeking multiple ways to increase a team motivation, satisfaction, and performance. The difficult segment of the process is dealing with human different behaviors, such as personalities, emotions, attitudes, and values. This paper will outline a positive plan that businesses will be able to implement to increase their teams production and happiness.
Motivation
Team motivation is one the most important elements that could help teams succeed. Industrial psychologist Fredrick Herzberg discovered during his motivational theory research that true motivators are achievement, recognition, responsibility, and advancement. To increase motivation within a team setting, these areas are required to be addressed: 1. Achievement- Ensure that each member sees his or her value of their work and contributions that help benefit the company. Allow the feedback from the clients or customer be known to the team for exceptional performance or service 2. Recognition- Managers should take time out of work schedule to congratulate and praise employees to for jobs well done. 3. Responsibility- Create new and challenging task and small project that would stimulate different members of the team. Creating ideas keeps the team on their toes to try something new instead of working the same issues every day. 4. Advancement- Allows each member of the team to strive to be better in his or her task or set themselves up for promotion or pay raise.
Attitudes and values are two characteristics of a person that should not be left out the equation when considering methods of motivation. Human resource has to create creative and relative methods to engage with the team effectively. If the employees of the company do not value what is being offered, their attitude towards productively working is not his or her first priority. Establishing a strong relationship with each member of the also help motivation increase.
Satisfaction
According to Merriam-Webster (2011), satisfaction is defined as the fulfillment of a need or want. Increasing a team satisfaction includes salary, working environment, rewards, and flexibility (Shuh, 2009). Employees determine if they are getting paid enough by the cost of living. If employees only have an ample amount of income to pay for bills, he or she may not be satisfied because they are not able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Providing a work environment that is spacious and suitable for a team allows the member of the team to be comfortable at work. Ensuring that space is provided helps the members think and process ideas through his or her mind a lot smoother. Rewards that employees are able to value and use at their own convenience are cherished more than rewards that could be only used at certain places. Most employers are moving toward visa gift cards, holiday bonuses, celebrating birthdays, and providing small extra perks.
