Decisions in Paradise

...Decisions in Paradise Part I MGT/350 Critical Thinking: Strategies in Decision Making Angela Patterson August 13, 2012 Paul Cleverley My name is Nikola Amador, my family and, friends call me Nik. I am traveling to Kava to meet the director of The Boeing Company, setting an example as a new employee; I have also been asked to help realign the business needs of Kava. As I arrive in Kava, my paradise business trip was not what I had dreamed of in my mind. During my meeting with Alex, the director, of Boeing I made a list of ideas that skipped through my mind. To review the ideas after the meeting, I only jolted down key words. Listed on a pad were the words: setup, effectiveness, growth, employees, and employee services. Expanding and realigning Boeing in Kava will play a major role as the company expands. Defining Kava was not an issue that could be easily discovered without knowing the history and background of Kava. One main issue I knew I would face was to set up the office in a functional and organized manner. From taking college classes in my college days, I knew possessing a clean and organized space to work and think in is critical in completing any task, big or small. On day one, I began preparing the office for business. I realized I would need a much larger space if the company planned to expand and grow operations in Kava. My recommendations and my...

...of debt. To avoid suffering from serious debt problems consider these suggestions: 1. Buy what you need It’s easy to buy things we actually don’t need or very rarely use. Look in your wardrobe and count the number of clothes that you rarely wear. Before buying a good, try to evaluate its usefulness to yourself; give it a mark out of 10. If you give items an honest score, you will think twice before spending $100 on your 7th pair of designer shoes. If you’re an impulsive buyer, try waiting a day before buying something. If you really want and need it you can come back the next day. 2. The $70 dollar test If you have a real problem with excess spending, try this test. For a week, give yourself $70 cash, and put away all credit cards. This forces you to live on $10 a day. When you are faced with a strict income, it forces you to be very careful in what you spend. It will make you realise what is really indispensable and which spending is mere extravagance. This will also force you to be inventive. For example, rather than spending $15 on a take away lunch, you may make your own. Quite often, by taking these steps we realize our previous spending habits were not at all essential to our happiness. 3. How Much do you Spend? It is easy to...

American's Should Not Use Credit Cards

...Nilson Report, February 2010, the average credit card debt per household with credit card debt is $15,788 and the number of credit cards held per family is 3.5. This issue has destroyed many lives and keeps causing problems among many American’s today.” It is my personal opinion that credit card usage ought to be reserved for people who have a high income and who reliably make a lot of money. Personal credit card debt doubled in the past four years and personal bankruptcies are at the highest rates ever and still more Americans are spending money that they do not have. There is a potential dark side to plastic with some unfortunate account holders getting out of their depth and building up debts that become a problem and cause of worry Credit Cards have become a problem for most Americans credit card users and there are even cases that students commit suicide because of heavy debts they owe the credit card companies (Manning, 2000) By paying with cash, you can “feel” the money leaving, which is not true with credit cards, where upon flipping a credit card up on a counter, leaves you feeling nothing emotionally.   Just as credit cards encourage overpaying for an item, they also allow individuals to buy more than budgeted. First, the charges by most of the credit card companies are rather exorbitant. Apart from   that these credit card companies charge their customers on the use and withdrawals of money with the cards, the credit card companies also charge their customers on...

Com/172 Final Essay

...Even though credit cards can be a source of paying for college-related expenses; credit card companies should not be on college campuses because most students will misuse the credit card, go into credit card debt and not realize the full financial hole they are in and struggle for years to pay off the debt. The first reason why credit card companies should not be on colleges marketing to college students is that it is very easy for a college student to misuse the new credit card. A college student most likely has limited financial means and a credit card could help today but hurt substantially more down the road. With a limited income, it would be very easy for the student to become financially dependent on the card. A 2009 Survey by Sallie Mae concluded the following. “The economic downturn has most Americans tightening their spending habits, but not all. College students are even more dependent upon credit cards, according to a survey conducted by Sallie Mae, the nation’s leading provider of student loans. The organization released its survey results last week in its National Study of Usage Rates and Trends. The study focused on undergraduate student’s ages 18 to 24 who were enrolled in public and private four-year colleges and universities during the spring of 2008.” [ (Phan, 2009) ] Another misuse of credit card spending occurs when the student is trying to fit into a social crowd among its peers. Many students feel a need to be part of socially acceptable “cool” crowd...

...Eco 360 writing requirement Jing He ID: 107302852 The causes of subprime crisis during 2007-2008 In America, according to the borrower’s credit rating, housing mortgage loan can be divide into prime, alt-a and subprime loan. Subprime mortgage loan is one of the important bank businesses. It is a high return but also high risk industry. Basically the loan is related to customers’ credit and reimbursement ability. Bank credit reports include the name, employment, credit, loan history and collection records; A FICO score is a number represents how credit worthy you are which is based on factors such as the amount of money you earn, how much debt you hold, your record of paying back past debts…the higher the score the better your credit. It provides the analytics and completed history credit, helps financial institution to make decision; it’s a measure of credit risk. These are the measurements whether offer the loan or not, if analysis shows not good, then banks would refuse the request. This is the prime loan, but the subprime mortgage loan offers loan to someone who don’t have good credit, or lower reimbursement ability. This is a potential risk of this industry. Compare to the normal loan, it has high interest rate, so the repayment pressure is really high to someone has not such good credit, but to the bank, if lenders repay the loan, they would earn high interest return. The origin cause was the booming in real estate. The house price increase rapidly in last few years...

Zzzz Best Fraud

...to rapidly decline. In July 1987, Minkow resigned and the company sued him for fraud allegations. This landed Minkow in federal prison, with a sentence of 25 years for 57 counts of fraud. In the beginning, Minkow struggled to meet the basic expenses of his company. Two banks closed his business accounts because the California Law did not allow minors to sign binding contracts, including checks. He began to receive several customer complaints as well as the demand for payment from suppliers. At times, Minkow also found it hard to meet payroll. Because of the lack of operating capital, Minkow financed his business by check kiting, stealing and selling his grandmothers jewelry, staging break-ins at his offices, and running up fraudulent credit card charges. With the help of Tom Padgett, an insurance claims adjuster, ZZZZ Best branched into the “insurance restoration” business. Minkow forged many documents which claimed that the company was involved in several restoration projects for Padgett’s company. Both Minkow and Padgett formed a fake company, Interstate Appraisal Services, which verified the details of the restorations to Minkow’s bankers. The restoration projects eventually accounted for about 86 percent of his company’s profits, but they were non-existent. In January 1986, Minkow took ZZZZ Best public and began trading at $18 per share on NASDAQ. Accountants wanted to see “Interstate Appraisal Services” and a restoration job. Minkow paid off a guard to show a fake office...

...Running Head: Americans Should Not Use Credit Cards 1 Americans Should Not Use Credit Cards Christopher McDonald COM/156 Donna Madison-Bell, MS Running Head: Americans Should Not Use Credit Cards 2 With more Americans in financial trouble than ever before and personal debt at an all-time high, most Americans should shun credit card use. Americans are having trouble paying for their credit card purchases and they are taking on more debt than is fiscally sound based on their income. Many people are being mislead by the appealing advertising tactics of credit card companies and most don’t understand or receive the information they need to make intelligent use of their credit cards or make important personal finance decisions. In addition, today’s economy has left many people unemployed or underemployed. To compensate for their lack of income, many people are using their credit cards to pay for basic items like food and gasoline. Because they lack a substantial income, they then can’t pay the credit card companies. Still other people might lack the will power to resist buying items that they can’t afford. Instead of rationalizing that they do not have the cash for the purchase, they use a credit card and worry about it at a later date. Americans now have more personal debt and financial struggles than ever before in the nation’s history, in part because of irresponsible use of credit. A 2007 article in the magazine Mother Jones stated that Americans owe...
