...Governments Worldwide Must Place More Focus On Human Trafficking A collection of current articles regarding human trafficking has been collected throughout this semester. The news reports vary greatly in geographic location but the underlying message that these events share is unified and clear. Governments worldwide must create specialized agencies, victim relief units, and allocate more funds towards the understanding and prevention of this growing crime. Due to the complexity of human trafficking, non-traditional law enforcement must be used. As stated in several of the articles gathered, a growing need for information sharing between organizations has become necessary. With enhanced human trafficking policies and implementation; accurate crime statistics can be gathered, victims can be identified, perpetrators can be prosecuted, and organized crime patterns can be seen. This paper will be broken down into several components that cover this multi-faceted, illegal industry. First, a description and definition of human trafficking will be given. The current prevention methods will follow, including rough statistics gathered around the world. Next, I will outline the difficulties that law enforcement encounter with human trafficking. Over twenty-one million people experience that on a daily basis, and this act is called human trafficking. In a recent documentary about the subject Ensalved and Exploited, they defined human trafficking as the “recruitment, harbouring, transportation, provision, obtaining of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act” and most of these people are women and children who are destined for the sex trade. Anyone who is being abused or provides a service because they are afraid is considered human trafficking. This essay aims to explain the contexts of human trafficking and its effects. It will also look at the case of Timea Nagi and relate it all back to course material. Firstly, many wonder how do these people get involved in this trade? The main way that people can get tied up inhuman trafficking is by responding to a job offer. Many young European women who seek jobs as nannies or models in North America, have their passports confiscated upon arrival and are forced to work in strip clubs and brothels. The girls are told that they owe a lot of money for food and travel debt to their traffickers and that is how they are forced to service men. Unfortunately, women in this country are mostly unaware of their rights because of illiteracy and the oppressive tradition. Names like Kalpana Chawla: The Indian born, who fought her way up into NASA and was the first women in space, and Indira Gandhi: The Iron Woman of India was the Prime Minister of the Nation, Beauty Queens like Aishwarya Rai and Susmita Sen, and Mother Teresa are not representative of the condition of Indian women. Over 32000 murders, 19,000 rapes, 7500 dowry deaths and 36500 molestation cases are the violent crimes reported in India in 2006 against women. Capital flight from some of these transition economies, when adjusted for country size, is comparable to the more highly publicized capital outflows from Russia despite East Europe’s seemingly better transition and reform performance and greater political stability. We find that capital flight from CEE is mainly an economic phenomenon, driven by differences in interest rates and investors’ expectations about future macroeconomic conditions in their countries. Our empirical results are thus consistent with the mainstream explanations of capital flight and they mirror results obtained for other countries and time periods, suggesting that transition-related phenomena are not important factors in capital flight from CEE. ...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION Female circumcision is a traditional practice performed on girl children as part of initiation rituals into adulthood. This inquiry seeks to demystify the secretiveness surrounding this practice, seeking to establish the reasons why female circumcision remains a taboo subject. In doing so, the researcher will attempt to establish the local community’s perception of female circumcision and elucidate some of the reasons practitioners cite as benefits of female circumcision. The research focuses on Mabvuku and Tafara suburbs because there are people of different ethnic groups with varying customs and values that shape their behaviour and way of life. Mabvuku and Tafara have an unusually high concentration of people of Malawian, Mozambican and Zambian origin who migrated to seek work mostly before the Zimbabwean independence. Due to this diversity, women and girls who have undergone female circumcision were interviewed. Mabvuku is a high-density suburb some seventeen kilometres east of Harare. It is classified as a suburb or township of Harare, with the Harare City Council constituting local government. This inquiry is exploratory, descriptive and qualitative in nature, based on interviews with women who had undergone the practice in Mabvuku-Tafara.
