There are many factors that are critical and vital to police to do their jobs effectively. Some issues pertain to equipment and others just to scenarios faced out in the field and how to handle them. The most recognized danger in policing is of course that of being shot. However, there are other multiple dangers that are dealt with on a daily basis. Some that the public may not think of are those like foot pursuits, vehicle pursuits, responding code 3 (lights and sirens), making an arrest, stress, heat stroke, equipment duty, and biohazard and sun exposure. The equipment alone can weigh up to 20 pounds and includes items like ballistic vests and heavy leather belts containing batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, a radio and a handgun. The weight from this equipment can puts a tremendous amount of stress on the back, hips, knees and feet.
