What pieces of information are needed to assist the family in making a decision regarding Marianne’s care?

The information provided explains that Marianne, 79, was admitted to the emergency department yesterday with a sever headache. She became unresponsive and a CT scan of her brain revealed she had a hemorrhagic stroke. Her pupils are dilated and unresponsive to light. She is breathing only with a respirator. The piece of information to assist the family in decision-making is the fact that her pupils are dilated and she is unresponsive breathing only with a respirator device. The surgeon cannot guarantee quality of life even with the clot removed (Black, p. 175, 2010).

We know that Marianne’s children and husband are involved in the decision making regarding her care and have differing opinions on what medical measures should be done. Her doctor wants to perform surgery but not much information on her quality of life post-surgery is available, nor do we have information on the pros and cons of surgery given her diagnosis and age.

We would need to find out from the husband why he feels it is best to “try everything”. Is this because of something that Marianne would want or

In order for the family of Marianne to make an informed decision certain information is needed. The medical staff needs to review the current prognosis without surgery. What type of treatment or surgery is possible along with the risks, benefits, and recovery required. The staff needs to review if any discussion has occurred in the family with Marianne in the past regarding advance directive wishes even though no formal advance directives have been made. Patient rights need to be reviewed and written copy provided to family. Information on DNR, full code, to allow or when to stop ventilation, and if artificial feedings to be started are a few of the topics that the family needs to have information reviewed to make an informed decision on the care of Marianne. White cap: What pieces of information are needed to assist the family in making a decision regarding Marianne’s care? In this situation the family is at odds on what to do about Marianne. The husband wants to do everything possible to keep her alive, whereas the children think that surgery shouldn’t be an option because even if she was to make it through the surgery, there is no guarantee that she will be functional. Since Marianne doesn’t have an advanced directive, the family needs to know what all of their options are and the outcomes of each option. For example, the types of surgeries that can be done and the probability of Marianne being once again functional, maybe the types of non-surgical interventions such as medications or just not doing anything at all and just letting Marianne pass. It already seems that Marianne is far gone since her pupils are dilated and non-reactive. A more conducive testing of her brain activity could help them make the decision on whether or not to proceed with the surgery or not. The family as a whole...

The participants has a total population of 48 Grade 3 pupils at Sta. Cruz Elementary School in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. The population is divided into two groups by randomization: 24 pupils in the control group and 24 pupils in the experimental group since the researchers used the between subjects design. The control group received the normal way of giving spelling activity, the oral dictation of words. The experimental group received also the oral dictation of words but they are also shown flashcards with jumbled letters of the words that are being spelled. The computed value of t was – 1.7 and is less than the tabular value, 2.021 with df of 46 and the α of .05. ...CHAPTER 1 What Is Financial Modelling? here are all sorts of complicated definitions of financial modelling, and in my experience there is quite a bit of confusion around what a financial model is exactly. A few years ago, we put together a Plum Solutions survey about the attitudes, trends, and uses of financial modelling, asked respondents “What do you think a financial model is?” Participants were asked to put down the first thing that came to mind, without any research or too much thinking about it. I found the responses interesting, amusing, and sometimes rather disturbing. Some answers were overly complicated and highly technical: n T n n n n “Representation of behaviour/real-world observations through mathematical approach designed to anticipate range of outcomes.” “A set of structured calculations, written in a spreadsheet, used to analyse the operational and financial characteristics of a business and/or its activities.” “Tool(s) used to set and manage a suite of variable assumptions in order to predict the financial outcomes of an opportunity.” “A construct that encodes business rules, assumptions, and calculations enabling information, analysis, and insight to be drawn out and supported by quantitative facts.” “A system of spreadsheets and formulas to achieve the level of record keeping and reporting required to be informed, up-to-date, and able to track finances accurately and plan for the future.” Some philosophical: n “A numerical...

Ethics

...Sci Eng Ethics (2011) 17:597–605 DOI 10.1007/s11948-010-9213-7 Teaching Ethics to Engineers: Ethical Decision Making Parallels the Engineering Design Process Bridget Bero • Alana Kuhlman Received: 14 January 2010 / Accepted: 18 May 2010 / Published online: 4 June 2010 Ó Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2010 Abstract In order to fulfill ABET requirements, Northern Arizona University’s Civil and Environmental engineering programs incorporate professional ethics in several of its engineering courses. This paper discusses an ethics module in a 3rd year engineering design course that focuses on the design process and technical writing. Engineering students early in their student careers generally possess good black/white critical thinking skills on technical issues. Engineering design is the first time students are exposed to ‘‘grey’’ or multiple possible solution technical problems. To identify and solve these problems, the engineering design process is used. Ethical problems are also ‘‘grey’’ problems and present similar challenges to students. Students need a practical tool for solving these ethical problems. The stepwise engineering design process was used as a model to demonstrate a similar process for ethical situations. The ethical decision making process of Martin and Schinzinger was adapted for parallelism to the design process and presented to students as a step-wise technique for identification of the pertinent ethical issues, relevant moral theories, possible...

...The short-term memory/long-term memory distinction If there is a difference between short- and long-term memory stores, there are two possible ways in which these stores may differ: in duration, and in capacity. A duration difference means that items in short-term storage decay from this sort of storage as a function of time. A capacity difference means that there is a limit in how many items short-term storage can hold. If there is only a limit in capacity, a number of items smaller than the capacity limit could remain in short-term storage until they are replaced by other items. Both types of limit are controversial. Therefore, in order to assess the usefulness of the short-term storage concept, duration and capacity limits will be assessed in turn. Short-term memory is used to remember a number looked up in a telephone book. Students who cram for a test retain the information in their short-term memory. Important life moments, such as the birth of a child, are stored in a person's long-term memory. Looking through old photos will likely trigger long-term memories. Bottom of Form Short-term and long-term memory, while closely related, have many differences. Long-term memory is used to store information, memories, skill sets and procedural knowledge that can be readily retrieved when needed, both voluntarily and involuntarily. Short-term memory is designed to retain information for a brief period of time, after which it is then either forgotten or stored permanently...

Ralont Marketing Plan

...Marketing Plan: Ralont Pill Bottle by Pills R’ US Keller Graduate School of Management MM522: Marketing Management Bojlur Rahman Alex Garcia Donald Weston Taiwo Adenuga Executive Summary The Ralont Pill Bottle is dedicated to producing newly redesigned pharmaceutical medicine bottles that offer an “at a glance” view of “what medicine” belongs to “what person” in a medicine cabinet. This redesign came about after careful years of market research against the conventional “brown bottle” used for 90% of all medicine dispensed. We believe that our “color coordinated” bottles for Male Adults, Female Adults, Male Children and Female Children are exactly what the public has been asking for, thereby meeting market demand as well as metrics for predictable revenue. In addition, a patented “dosage control” mechanism will allow for “as needed pills” to be properly dispensed. Included you will find a SWOT analysis including redesign Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. The Ralont Pill Bottle will offer customers a new shift in paradigm in the way medicine is identified, dispensed and maintained in storage. No longer will there be any kind of confusion as to what medicine belongs to what person and most importantly the differences between adult and child medication. Our goal is simple, to change public perception and trust in medication bottles and create a “new standard” which will in and of itself become a product by which other products can offspring.  Pricing...
