How might you use the strategies for applying creativity to problems and issues in addressing this topic?
Looking back at the story used for the previous assignment, not all the information was needed to be objective. Since last week more information has became available. It has been determined that the soldier was not shot at the time he was online with his wife. So far it appears he died of natural causes. The media added the point that the wife saw a bullet hole in the closet behind her husband, but once they started the investigation, it was revealed there was no bullet hole in the closet. Thus far they are ruling the death as natural causes, but the investigation continues. Having this information with the original paper would have made it easier to write, but the information that was provided was all I had at the time. One strategy that could have used was producing of ideas or scenarios, which at the time weren’t available, so using the information provided was key at the time.

How might you use the strategies for promoting curiosity in addressing this topic? Why do you think these strategies might be effective? The whole story contained some sort of curiosity, but in the end; any story concerning a death of a soldier in a foreign country will always be interesting to the reader. The strategy used for this story is more playing on the concern of the average American with family across sea fighting in this war. Leaving the reader with more questions surrounding the death of the soldier is what I noticed when I initially wrote my summary, but now that more information has become available; it answers a lot of the unanswered questions. While the family of the fallen soldier had to witness his death, but to know he wasn’t killed by an enemy will lift a lot weight of their shoulder. The strategy surrounding the original story in my mind was to get the sympathy of the readers and in the end it did, because these are the type of stories that touch our hearts, so it was effective in getting us to listen to the story and feel emotional.

How might you use the various methods for producing ideas to eliminate the bias from the original article and still present a factual and persuasive case? The key to this story to eliminate bias is sticking to the facts. In the original story there wasn’t enough information to keep the story bias, because I’m sure every reader thought he was killed in the line of duty and that wasn’t true. The soldier was killed from natural causes based on information released since then. The main idea of sticking to facts will make this article factual and persuasive at the same time. While this is a sad and unfortunate story it is true. What made this story stick out was the fact that the soldier was online using Skype with his wife when all of this occurred. The wife’s part of this story is what makes this story so appealing and leaves the readers wanting to know more information. This story is real and any information that is provided so stick to the part that this wasn’t a soldier killed in the line of duty, but more of a victim of circumstance. How many times have we seen something like this happen? I’m sure that is why this story made the headlines.
