According to the Course Text there is a consideration of constitutional law and prisoners’ rights such as civil rights of prisoners, the prisons and jails must operate under the law to be able to successfully take care of the inmates by which they house within their facilities, they have to teach and educate each officer on all levels of the understanding of the constitution, and not only for the guiding and maintaining a safe environment and implementing the proper rules and regulations when it comes to inmates but the officers on duty within the jail and prisons are heal accountable for knowing and understanding they have the rights and must be also treated under the constitution as employees, the inmates within the confinement has over the years been able to study and gain a knowledge that may even be superior to 85% of the officers that works within a facility and often times know how to work and use their rights to gain control over an officer. The role of the correction officials is one where the correctional staff has to focus towards the accomplishment of specific goals ( Stojkovic & Farkas, 2003,p.4) “We expect them to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and inmates. At a societal level of analysis the corrections official must consider and deal with the political, economic, and culture conditions that affect the administration as well as dealing with the inmate population, one reality within the system the official has to be concern with is Crisis Intervention, where they have a (CIT) team that attempts to identify the best ways to address a myriad of problems found among jail inmates, another key factor is the supervision of inmates on all levels within the jails and prisons, to me the role of correctional officials and correctional officers are a very tasking role, they have to be able to study and learn all the rules and regulations of the jails and prisons where their day to day operations take place, they are working within the lines of each policy, some officials has to have knowledge of how to deal with those who suffer from mental ills, as well as those with serious behavior problems. The officer has to be able to assist the mental ill by helping them alleviate the everyday stress of jail life (Lombardo, 1985) states Correctional officers can be trained on how to teach inmates to cope with the stresses associated with jail environments. Correctional officers can play a valuable role in the delivery of multidisciplinary mental health services in jails and prisons. Despite differences in their training, culture, and mission, correctional and clinical staffs have some common goals. When correctional officers share appropriate in-formation with clinicians and assist in the management of inmates who have mental disorders, both the quality of treatment and the safety of the correctional environment improve. Mutual respect, proper orientation and training, and ongoing communication and cooperation provide the foundation for meaningful contributions to mental healthcare by correctional officers from the Multidisciplinary Roles in the 21st Century.

Dealing with Juvenile Detainees

... 1 Dealing with Juvenile Detainees Amanda Nault CRJ 303 Prof. Jeffrey Cudworth April 15, 2013 DEALING 2 There is a clear difference between adult offenders and juvenile offenders when it comes to the criminal justice system. There are different ways to handle each type of offender. In this paper, I will discuss the types of situations that criminal justice officials face when dealing with juvenile offenders. I will cite examples from different sources and explain them. When it comes to adult offenders, the criminal justice system has a clear cut way on how to handle them and what actions need to be taken for each and every case and every offense. When it comes to juvenile offenders, some people want to treat them just as they would adult offenders. Other people realize that these offenders are just children and should not be punished like an adult, but rather need to be rehabilitated back on the right path to becoming a model adult citizen. “The juvenile justice system was originally created to deal with delinquent acts committed by individuals under age eighteen (in most states), in a separate system designed to deal differently with juveniles then with adults. Over the years, however, the juvenile justice system has suffered from a lack of consistency and agreement on the mission and the approach”...

...Correctional Officers Patricia Johnson CRJ 303 Prof. Lott April 18, 2012 Correctional Officers The life of a corrections officer is and can be very dangerous. Corrections officers have to deal with hundreds of inmates on a daily bases and ensure that each inmate is safe and secure while under their supervision. Being a corrections officer can also be very stressful and dangerous. They are not only concern with their safety, but the safety of other officers, visitors, and the inmates. This job is not for everyone only for the strong and strong minded. As with any job, corrections officers have to perform a post order, before getting started for the day. Their day consist of routine activities and constant communication with inmates and other staff members. Their shift will start first with them arriving and reading the log book, then dealing with inmates going to work, eating lunch, going to the recreation yard and them ending it by recording what happen throughout the day and turning over their keys to the next shift. Corrections officers play crucial roles in the functioning of correctional institutions. They create and maintain the social and security milieu within prisons and often have direct impact on the behavior of inmates through their daily contact with inmates. Studies showed, however, that the correctional work environment was fraught with stress. Many studies found that corrections officers experienced excessive stress, which manifested in physical illnesses...

Life of a Correctional Officer

...LIFE OF A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER CRJ: 303 Corrections 17 March 2013 Abstract The life of a correctional officer is something that is easily over looked. Not understanding or knowing the intricate details that go into what it actually takes to coexist with incarcerated inmates is one of the reasons that the general public is able to go about their daily lives, not thinking or wondering how those inmates are controlled. Correctional officers have one of the hardest jobs on the planet, having to work with prison inmates on a daily basis and not knowing when something may happen that could endanger themselves or their fellow correctional officers. Keywords: daily, corrections, life, officers, policies, The life of a correctional officer is a multi-prong one. A correctional officer is a staff person in a prison or jail who accomplishes the institution’s mission by maintaining control and order within the prison (Seiter, 2011). While the job of a correctional officer is very critical within a prison and may vary vastly depending on the role unique to a certain prison or jail, it is very important that we all understand that these quiet guardians are the tip of the spear in the correctional facilities. The differences between jails and prisons have been clearly defined and the missions between the two are considerately different, there is relatively little difference in the actual roles that correctional officers play in the two types of facilities. Correctional officers...

Exonerated

...Running Head: AFTER CONVICTION: EXONERATED AFTER CONVICTION: EXONERATED Curtis C. Dix Jr. Prof. George Ackerman CRJ-330 February 19, 2012 Abstract There are many things that have been and will be discussed regarding our justice system and the justice system of other countries. Differently there are varying types of courts all throughout these other countries as well. Similarly, all countries have criminal sanctions, sentencing practices, types’ of punishment, imprisonment, and death penalties. The question I present is what about all those whom have been wrongfully convicted, sentenced and then later on exonerated based upon DNA or whatever evidence available? What about the various countries whom have taken the act in an attempt to exonerate those individuals especially here within the United States? I believe that the wrongly accused deserve to not only be exonerated from their sentence but also compensated for all the time lost due to being wrongfully convicted in the first place. Anyone that has been exonerated should be well provided for due to the simple fact that those whom have been incarcerated may have the tendency to be unprepared meeting the challenges of the world today in some shape or form. Since most topics in criminal justice systems and contrast/comparisons have been spoken of numerous of times and the idea of exonerating individuals is current plus still a fairly new field of study and concern, I will share some accounts, data, and my standpoint on...
