The main causes behind the slow adoption from ageing society to new technologies, such as smart phones and e-commerce, have been researched. There is not a main common cause amongst scientists for this slow adaptation. What are the possible main causes behind the slow adaptation for the elderly to new technology? The aim of this research was to analyse and come to the most common cause indicated by several researchers as to why the ageing society is slow to adapt to new technologies. The results were quite surprising and differed from our original argument. It was assumed that the ageing society was slow to use technology because they were complacent. A literature review of a number of mainly scientific articles on the topic of the ageing society and their slow adaptation to eHealth has been done, from this we were able to conclude that ergonomics and interface problems were the most common causes. It is important to figure out the causes of the slow adaptation to find possible market opportunities and to adjust the upcoming technologies for the ageing society. Since the three-phase supply is available from the grid, there is a need to develop a static phase transformation system to obtain a multiphase supply from the available three-phase supply. Thus, this paper proposes a novel transformer connection scheme to convert the threephase grid supply to a five-phase fixed voltage and fixed frequency supply. The proposed transformer connection outputs five phases and, thus, can be used in applications requiring a five-phase supply. Currently, the five-phase motor drive is a commercially viable solution. The five-phase transmission system can be investigated further as an efficient solution for bulk power transfer. The connection scheme is elaborated by using the simulation and experimental approach to prove the viability of the implementation. In this paper, we propose a new mutation strategy, a fitnessinduced parent selection scheme for the binomial crossover of DE, and a simple but effective scheme of adapting two of its most important control parameters with an objective of achieving improved performance. The new mutation operator, which we call DE/current-to-gr_best/1, is a variant of the classical DE/current-to-best/1 scheme. It uses the best of a group (whose size is q% of the population size) of randomly selected solutions from current generation to perturb the parent (target) vector, unlike DE/current-to-best/1 that always picks the best vector of the entire population to perturb the target vector. In our modified framework of recombination, a biased parent selection scheme has been incorporated by letting each mutant undergo the usual binomial crossover with one of the p top-ranked individuals from the current population and not with the target vector with the same index as used in all variants of DE.
