She was an advisor to nine black student trying to attend a previously all white school. She was also an important figure in the seminal moment of the civil rights movement. As a publisher and journalist, she was also a witness and advocate on a larger scale. Bates endured numerous hardships, but in the coming pass years her generous labors on behalf of equality opportunity have earned her many praise. The Bates published a local black newspaper, the Arksansas State Press, which advertised the violations of the Supreme Court's desegration rulings. Ultimately, the Little Rock Nine were able to attend Central High, and many of them went on to impressive careers. There were about 5,000 whites to 50 blacks. Born to Mary and Alfred Du Bois, he was raised to believe that hard work was the key to success. In 1884, he graduated from high school at the top of his class, made up of thirteen people with him being the only African American. Hart, Head of Department Abstract The objective of the study was to map the structure of the construction engineering and management (CEM) discipline and its contents, trace its evolution, and to identify the most prevailing research areas in the discipline. The study entailed a review of the literature in construction engineering and management as well as two of the leading academic journals in the discipline, particularly a bibliometric study of the contents of the ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering (JME), as a case study of the CEM refereed journals. The JME’s contents were investigated from its onset in 1985 until 2002. The results of the analysis show that 70% of the published papers focused on four main subjects: management and organization of the firm, project management, industry structure and environment, and management of personnel.
