Bitcoins

...Invented in January of 2009, Bitcoin is the world’s first online digital crypto-currency. Rather than relying on central authorities, Bitcoin uses cryptography to control its creation and management. In today’s day and age, cryptography is heavily based on mathematical theory, which Bitcoin creators used to create computational algorithms as a means of securing electronic Bitcoin transactions. From a globalization perspective, the dramatic rise of Bitcoins is of particular importance because of the threat it poses to the centralized global monetary system, as well as central banks of governments all over the world. For the basis of this report we will examine two reputable news sources, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and review their coverage on Bitcoins, to produce an in depth analytical analysis of the global impact that this decentralised digital currency poses. Brief Introduction into the Background of Bitcoins In 2009 when Bitcoins were first unveiled to the global market, it was introduced as an alternative to the failing fiscal policy of the global monetary system, which was seen as a catalyst for guiding the world into the 2008 recession. Both news outlets recognized developer or developers, Satoshi Nakamoto, as the pseudonym for the creator of the Bitcoin protocol, which is based on “a fundamental critique of the world’s monetary system” (Mendoza, 2012, para. 4). Nakamoto expanded on this critique through...

...Financial permaculture, a close cousin ofthe Transition Initiative, has taken root in Hohnenwald, Tennessee. Organizers there have created a business plan designed to meet the local county's food, energy, and banking needs in a sustainable manner. Financial permaculture applies the principles of permaculture to economics. Instead of putting time, attention, and money into global investments, those same resources support local investments (particularly those tbat fit permaculture), cooperatives, and local currencies. I grant that permaculture seems idealistic. It may be a backlash to globalization, or it may be an old idea whose time has come (or merely returned after millennia). Nonetheless, these turbulent times may provide the compost needed for a more responsible, humane, sustainable system to take bold. Meanwhile, we can each support our local community, just as we need healthy cells to have healthy organs, we need healthy neighborhoods and towns. Eiinlish |, Piirn iple^ of Fiiwncidl Permatullure. From this, let see how different generations have interacted with each other. I had to mention my workplace was a teaching hospital, and before we started working and be on our own, they prepared us for about 6 months: 2 months we spent in class to go over the basic of critical care, and four months when we had to shadow a RN II who would be there to direct us and taught us the floor. Well, I would start with when I was an orientee about two years ago. As a young black man, well educated, I thought everything was going to be ok until I met Daniele. By listening to her talking, or seen her moving around; we would think we were in good hand, and we would be learning all your stuff without difficulty. It was not the case. She was very arrogant and disrespectful. Even the new RN license I just earned one year prior was in...

Leadership

...Leadership seen from a European and non-academic perspective encompasses a view of a leader who can be moved both by communitarian goals but also by the search for personal power. As the European researcher Daniele Trevisani states: "Leadership is a holistic spectrum that can arise from: higher levels of physical power, need to display power and control others, force superiority, ability to generate fear, or group-member's need for a powerful group protector, superior mental energies, superior motivational forces, perceivable in communication and behaviors, lack of fear, courage, determination, higher abilities in managing the overall picture, higher abilities in specialized tasks, higher ability in managing the execution of a task, and higher level of values, wisdom, and spirituality, where any Leader derives its Leadership from a unique mix of one or more of the former factors". Studies of leadership have produced theories involving traits, situational interaction, function, behavior, power, vision and values, Charisma, and intelligence, among others. To Plutarch's Lives have explored the question "What qualities distinguish an individual as a leader?" Underlying this search was the early recognition of the importance of leadership and the assumption that leadership is rooted in the characteristics that certain individuals possess. This idea that leadership is based on individual attributes is known as the "trait theory of leadership". A number of works in the 19th century...

Drowsy Chaperone Review

...Drowsy Chaperone Play Review #1 Joseph Daniele: Period 8 Crystal Lake South's performance of The Drowsy Chaperone was produced quite well. I had some prior knowledge of the play due to being in 8th hour Dramatic Literature, but I was still heavily unaware of what I was paying to go see on Saturday, March 3rd. The combination of the classic "Portillos" music, record skips, smooth transitions, and especially Lexis's (Janet Van De Graff) performance. It all demonstrated the true talent within the Crystal Lake High School students that I was completely oblivious to. One of the main aspects of the show is the Man in the Chair, Neal, he has to articulate his genuine feelings for musical theatre and theatre alike. Neal did this successfully by putting on the persona of a man whose current life is dedicated to his theatrical records. Neal also had some performances along with his acting that showed that he could truly play the role of the Man in the Chair. Another outstanding performer was Janet Van De Graff (Played by Lexis). Lexis stood out over everyone else in my opinion because her ability to sing, dance and act was on another level in comparison to the other actors. I have known who Lexis is for many years and never did it occur to me that she could be the person that would 'steal the show' so to speak. In contrast with the performances, the music of that particular time period both caught me off guard and caught my attention. Considering the many times I have dined at Portillos...

Organic Food Revamped

...Revamp The Organic James Miller DeVry University Revamp The Organic Is the need for organic foods in our society, diets, and health being represented and explained well today? Actually it is in a worse state than ever. The knowledge is out there but it is just floating around with no one to help people really grasp the concept. People are either confused or don’t care because organic food isn’t getting the credit it deserves. Most people will not consider organic foods a life changing diet because they are unaware that when the food is truly organic and fresh it contains all the nutrients our human bodies need; another issue is that some organic foods are being misrepresented by companies that shouldn’t aloud to have organic logos on non-organic food. Ignorance of the things that can help your health is a huge hindrance to the kinds of things organic foods can do to enhance human body health. People can’t eat healthy if they don’t even know what healthy eating is. It is as simple as educating those that are unaware of organic foods impact on a person’s diet. Organic labels slapped onto non-organic food can quickly kill the name organic for the foods that actually are. Companies will often say something is organic either because every product like it already is or just to trick unaware customers into buying what they see. This is so they get all the off guard customers money and thus taking away from the ones that are truly organic but might be more expensive. The real...

How Far Does the Disaster of 1898 Account for the Growth of Catalan and Basque Nationalism?

...How far does the disaster of 1898 account for the growth of Catalan and Basque nationalism? The humiliating defeat of Spain to America during the Spanish-American War of 1898 dealt a catastrophic blow to the Spanish nation. In the subsequent Treaty of Paris signed on December 10th 1898, Spain relinquished its remaining colonial territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific. The disaster evoked heavy criticism of the Restoration government and its inherent corruption amongst many groups within Spanish society and served as a catalyst for the emergence of new political forces seeking to contest against the ruling oligarchy, most notably Catalan and Basque nationalism. This essay will argue that the disaster of 1898 was largely accountable for the growth of this nationalist sentiment in Catalonia and the Basque country. However, it will go on to assert that it was not wholly responsible: Catalanism had been built upon a steadily growing tide of Catalan particularism throughout the nineteenth century, and in the Basque Country its growth was ephemeral and would in fact enter a period of a more accelerated development during the years of the First World War. In Catalonia, friction had long existed between its regional demands and the centralising mission of the Spanish state. This tension had grown as a process of modernisation encouraged by industrial development in Catalonia had widened the cultural and economic gap between it and a stagnant central and southern Spain...

Poor Communication Paper

...Poor Communication Paper COM 360 March 16, 2015 Poor Communication within International commerce The world is becoming a global community rapidly; communication across cultures has become a vital reality. Intercultural communication presents a fine opportunity to foster global peace and prosperity as we mine the potential value of cultural diversity. In brief, the international commerce is known for buying and selling of goods between sovereign nations. International commerce allows countries to take advantage of competitive advantages in certain areas, while decreasing disadvantages in other areas. To help facilitate international buying and selling among countries, a change of national and local government agencies have been set up, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). According to "International Trade Administration" (2014), “ the U.S. Commercial Service is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration. The U.S. Commercial Service trade professionals in over 100 U.S. cities and in more than 75 countries help U.S. companies get started in exporting or increase sales to new global markets” (para. 1). On the other hand, International commerce it can present unpleasant drawbacks if do not handled it well. However, in our world today the purpose seems more prevalent as a result of the barriers cultural diversity influences on intercultural communication. There are intercultural communication...

Tourism and Gastronomy

...BS4294 | Lifestyle Consumption and Experience Economies | Case Study: Tourism and Gastronomy. | | Clarice | 12/14/2011 | “The study of gastronomy clearly has relevance to education and training in the hospitality industry. Accepting that hospitality is based on human exchange ‘undertaken to enhance the mutual well-being of the parties concerned’, then offering advice on what to eat and drink, explaining how these relate to the town’s or region’s culture, and suggesting where and when to find them at their best, are all part of this human exchange which can certainly affect the well-being of the visitor “(Santich 2004, p.15). | Introduction The term gastronomy has been defined in many ways and is evolving overtime. It used to describe sophisticated dishes prepared for the nobility but there are now much wider and even differing definitions. Food tourism can be considered as “a subset of cultural tourism” – to learn through an experience about a previously unknown or very specific culture and environment (Santich 2004). Consequently, one contribution of food is to provide tourists a greater experience. As tourists have to eat and generally at least partially participate in local food experiences, gastronomy has always implicitly been part of the tourism experience. Nowadays, gastronomy takes people to travel to other countries to taste and to know what other people eat, and how do they make such a delicious dish. The gastronomy tourism is a perfect example...
