The Dave Matthews Band When I think of The Dave Matthews Band, I also think of their jazzy pop rock music that has helped them become a musical sensation. The band consists of jazz and classical musicians and of course, Dave Matthews. Their music and songs are very unique and have not been heard before the band came about. They have touched millions of people’s hearts, especially mine. The fact that they sing about real situations and real issues that are going on the world today is what makes them my favorite band. Whether I am happy, sad, or mad, The Dave Matthews Band’s album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” always lifts my spirits and puts me in a better mood; their songs are inspirational. One of the songs that touch me the most is called “Funny the Way It Is”. This song is about the good and bad things going on in the world. The point being made is that even though many wonderful things are happening, bad things are occurring at the exact same time.
“Funny the way it is, if you think about it/ One kid walks 10 miles to school, another's dropping out/ Funny the way it is, not right or wrong/ On a soldier's last breath, his baby's being born/ Funny the way it is, not right or wrong/ Somebody's broken heart become your favorite song/ Funny the way it is, if you think about it/ One kid walks 10 miles to school, another's dropping out”
Not only does it discuss the fine times and poor times in life, but also how people take the privileges they have for granted. While kids say they hate school and drop out, there are others that appreciate an education and will do anything to get it, such as walking ten miles to school. Basically, the song tells listeners that there are so many ironic moments happening every minute of every day and people do not even realize it. I love this song’s message and the realness of it. Another one of my favorite songs is called “You and Me”. Dave Matthews’ wife was his inspiration for this song. Their love is so deep for one another and Dave feels it can conquer anything and will last forever.
“You and I, we're not tied to the ground / Not falling but rising like rolling around / Eyes closed above the rooftops / Eyes closed, we're gonna spin through the stars / Our arms wide as the sky / We gonna ride the blue all the way to the end of the world / To the end of the world/ You and me together, we could do anything, Baby/ You and me together yes, yes”
I wish everyone’s marriage could be like theirs. Now days, it is common to hear several break up songs on the radio or songs about a broken heart. It is refreshing hearing a love song with so much meaning and love put into it. When I saw him sing this song in concert, he actually began tearing up. Last but not least, my third favorite song of theirs is “Dive In”. If I am feeling down or pessimistic about a situation, this song comes to mind. Dave Matthews is trying to tell people that even if you have a bad day or something negative has happened, there will be a brighter day and things will turn around. Also, he is saying that with any situation that you are put in, jump in with both feet and go for it.
“Wake up sleepy head / I think the suns a little brighter today/ Smile and watch the icicles melt away and see the water rising/ Summers here to stay, and those sweet summer girls will dance forever / Go down to the shore, kick off your shoes, dive in the empty ocean.”
Today the band still remains on billboard charts with their new album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King”. Their unique sound and songs have touched men and women of all ages all over the country. The band consists of three African American members and two white men, making them even more unique and is one of the reasons they have broken many stereotypes about traditional rock. The Dave Matthews Band has definitely come a long way the past decade with over ten albums, and will stay with me forever.
The Dave Matthews Band is responsible for making several of my rough times better and has given me a positive outlook on many things. I love this band and am very thankful that there is an artist that has songs that everyone can relate to and become a better person from.
“My music comes from my band members, my diverse cultural background and things that have happened to me in my life.”
-Dave Matthews

...the Life of Jesus “Christmas Song” is a song written by the Dave Matthews Band. It is a song that discusses a few significant parts of Jesus’ life. The song begins by talking about Mary and Joseph. It discusses how they were dating and were soon to be married, and then Mary finds out that she is pregnant and has a baby boy. After that, the song discusses how not much is known about the boy’s childhood, but was never home. Next the song discusses Jesus’ crucifixion, and how he cried to the Lord. Lastly, it discusses how Jesus rose from the dead and we celebrate him. The song simplifies Jesus’ life, and shows the main parts of his life. It seems that in the song, Dave Matthews wrote this song as if Jesus was a normal human. It shows Jesus’ thoughts and concerns about how well he has done with the people he has ministered to. In the song, the audience knows that the story is about Jesus, the Son of God, but he is almost humanized more than usual. He is only discussed as being born, crucified, and celebrated. This song is somewhat religious, but I think it is mainly just telling the story from Dave Matthews’ point of view. The song shows that once Jesus came, love was all around us. There are many parts that I found very interesting. The most interesting part is the lyrics, “The people he knew were less than golden-hearted-gamblers and robbers, drinkers and jokers. All soul searchers like you and me.” Dave Matthews did a great job at personalizing this song, and making us feel...

...PHILIPPINE STATE COLLEGE OF AERONAUTICS PICCIO GARDEN, VILLAMOR, PASAY CITY A.Y. 2015 – 2016 THE RISE OF THE BAND “THE 1975” IN THE UNITED KINGDOM ON 2015 Presented By: Montefalcon, John Marco C. AAMT 1st-5 Presented To: Mr. Mark Erickho Dela Cruz March 10, 2016 I. INTRODUCTION The Band “The 1975” is a British alternative rock band based on Manchester. The band currently consists of four members, Matthew Healy on guitar and vocals, Adam Hann on guitar, George Daniel on drums, and Ross McDonald on bass. According to SEX, DRUGS, AND MUSIC: AN INTERVIEW WITH THE 1975(2013), they were formed when they started playing in punk bands in their high school age. Since then, they never left their side since 2002 until now. For me, I can see and notice it that their bond as a band is as strong as ever. And as said by the The 1975 from THE 1975’S EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE UNTITLED MAGAZINE(2014), They met at Wilmslow High School, and they said they kind of started out of boredom. The 1975 had a various genre and band names before settling on “The 1975”. Those names are Talkhouse, Drive Like I Do, BIGSLEEP and The Slowdown. But they are not all from Manchester. Healy is from London and Daniel is from Belgium with some roots in Seattle. They played different genres, including punk, pop punk, rock, alternative rock, rock and ballad and many more. The band plays on many live shows, concerts and tours. Their name, apparently, is derived from an entry in a book of Beat poetry...

Sonic Highways Evaluation

...Vanessa Zsorey Dr. McCort College Comp 11 December 2015 Sonic Highways A band lasting as long as twenty years in the music industry with their original sound not suffering is a rarity. The Foo Fighters, led by the legendary Dave Grohl, are magnificent rockers who throughout two decades, continue to stay relevant in many ways. Throughout these twenty years they have released nine albums, each of which contained some of the biggest alternative rock hits of all time. Though they may not be riding the radio waves constantly or may only appeal to a shrinking audience, their craft has never once suffered. Their newest album, Sonic Highways, is pure proof that the Foo Fighters continuously try to push themselves out of their comfort zones in order to remain interesting to their fans. Sonic Highways was the most recent project the Foo Fighters have put out and the most creative of the past eight albums. The process to create this album was far more in depth and unique compared to the traditional methods. Typically, when a band decides they want to record, they find the closest studio that is in their price range and is the best quality necessary to fit the project. Mixing the recordings has gotten incredibly easy in recent times, where all that is really necessary is the ProTools program. With Protools, any errors can easily be cleaned and corrected, then moved on to the master CD and sent off to be pressed. A decade ago, recording and mixing were not nearly as simple or cheap...

...were very friendly and asked a lot of questions about America based on things they have seen in the news. When we first got to the pub there was a single performer playing downstairs with just an acoustic guitar and a repeater. After one of the songs he introduced himself, said his name was James and kept on playing. He was mixing in his own original music and playing some cover songs. His voice was very interesting, it sounded like a mix between John Mayer and Dave Matthews, he could hit high notes but his voice was a little raspy. Which was also very interesting was that most of the cover songs he played were mostly American songs such as Bruce Springsteen, and John Mayer and most of the people in the pub knew the songs and sang alone which was pretty cool to see. Overall the performance was good, we did not get to see much of it but from what we did see I liked it. After that performance ended, another band started playing upstairs so we went up to watch them. For this performance there were two people in the band, they were James and Josh (it was a different James). James played an acoustic guitar and Josh played a small drum and a bongo for some songs. Before they started playing they were giving a background on themselves, and cracking jokes on the people in the crowd, which warmed the crowd up to them, which I think I a good move. The songs that they played were all cover songs; they...

Guitar Superstore Marketing Plan

...Guitar Superstore can be found in two locations: The Loop and in the town of Kirkwood. The decision to introduce the store in St. Louis was based on the music scene in the area. Major Trends: As I just mentioned, the decision to open two stores in St. Louis has to do with the popularity of music in the area. For example, every summer, St. Louis hosts a series of free concerts every Friday night known as Live on the Levee. Popular artists such as Lifehouse, Goo Goo Dolls, and O.A.R. have performed. Concerts in St. Louis do not just stop once the summer ends. They have concerts all year round at various locations such as The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre and Scottrade Center. Some featured artists include: Dave Matthews Band and Jimmy Buffett. St. Louis also has Battle of the Band competitions. One took place at Six Flags in late October this year. The Guitar Superstore is hoping that with the popularity of the music in St. Louis, that they will be able to make their mark. Competition/Competitive Analysis: Obviously, based on the...

French And Indian War Analysis

...A Journey Inside the French and Indian War Dave Matthews once observed, “The saddest part of the human race is we're obsessed with this idea of 'us and them,' which is really a no-win situation, whether it's racial, cultural, religious or political” (Brainyquote.com). The French and Indian War plays an important role in the history of North America. The French and their Native American allies battled against the British and their Native American allies over land. The war solicits many undertones of hate and racism (Levernier). Hawkeye and his band of Native Americans lead the British group through trials and tribulations to Fort William Henry. In the Last of the Mohicans James Fenimore Cooper presents the ideas of nature, identity, and conflict in the French and Indian war through the main characters and settings. Toms Shoes

...Shoes for Tomorrow By: Melanie Helgeson http://tomsshoes.com Introduction Blake MyCoskie established TOMS Shoes in May of 2006. (Fortune, 2008) MyCoskie competed on the second season of the hit show The Amazing Race, where he traveled to Argentina. There he met many children and adults who could not afford to buy shoes, he was troubled by this fact and wanted to do something about it. He traveled back to Argentina for vacation and it was then that he decided he would start a shoe business, but not an ordinary shoe business. He decided that for every shoe that was sold another shoe would be donated to a child in need. It was then that MyCoskie’s “One for One” marketing plan was created. (Time, 2007) Situation Analysis Product/Service Description http://tomsshoes.com The product that TOMS provides is an alpargata shoe. They are a form of shoes worn by Argentina farmers. These shoes are known for being very breathable because of their lightweight canvas top and leather insole. This is a foot disease many people obtain from not wearing shoes while working in heavy soil. Fungus gets into the pores on the bottom of the foot and ends up destroying the lympathatic system (the tissue that fights against bacteria). ...Starbucks Coffee Company – February 2007 [i] A case originally written for JUAS2006 Seminar, November 2006, Pittsburgh, PA Latest major revision – July, 2008; minor revision in January, June & Dec 2010 Written by Robert S. Atkin © 2006-2013 Robert S. Atkin General Background Starbucks is a phenomenon – in just under three decades it has become an internationally visible brand literally defining an industry not only in the US, but in selected countries in the EU, the Middle East and Asia (Please see Exhibit 1. For additional information, please see the firm’s website or its SEC financial 10-K filings). For example, in the decade ending 2005, worldwide revenue increased about 15-fold to nearly 6.9B USD, while net income increased about 19 times to 494M USD. Most of this growth can be attributed to a dramatic increase in stores (both domestic and international), various product development and product mix changes (including improved food and music production [ii]), and price increases (two in US company-owned stores in the past year averaging 5 and 9 cents/drink in October 2006 and July 2007). A Starbucks affinity card was a significant growth driver in the past few years, but is not expected to be a major driver in the next few years. [iii] Begun as a local coffee shop in 1971, the company grew modestly in the Seattle area until the mid-1980’s when Howard Schultz joined the firm. Convinced by a trip to Italy in 1983 that coffee could become the center of a social...
