David Dreier has a resume that speaks for itself. He has been a longstanding politician for since 1981. That is over 30 years of experience under his belt. Since Dreier has been in the public eye for so long it is only natural that he deals with many personal and professional issues under a magnifying glass. He has faced scandals dealing with his sexual orientation, accused of being anti-gay and has never been given full credit for his outstanding achievements. Despite this David Dreier remains one of the House of Representatives leading voices and serves his constituents with integrity and hard work.
David Drier was born July 5, 1962 to a former Marine Corps drill instructor who ran a real estate investment firm alongside his wife. Dreier was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. David’ Dreier’s family still lives in the area due to the fact that they own and operate a real estate development company. In Dreier’s earlier years of his life he went to an exclusive boarding school called The Principia Upper School in St. Louis, Missouri. This was a private boarding school for Christian Scientists. After graduating from high school he then moved to California to attend college. He went to Claremont McKenna College, where he received his bachelor's degree in political science in 1975. He then went to Claremont Graduate School and obtained his master's a year later in government. He enjoyed the campus so much that he stayed there for an additional year and was the director of corporate relations for Claremont McKenna College.
David Dreier has a longstanding political career that has helped him become one of the most influential United States House Representatives California has ever seen. Though his rise in congress did not have a great start, he was able to overcome obstacles and get elected into the House of Representatives. During his first election in 1978, while Dreier was a mere 26 years old, he ran against James F. Lloyd, who was the incumbent democrat. He ended up falling short of a victory that time with Lloyd beating him 54% to 46%. However, 2 years later, in 1980 he ran for the position once again this time coming out victorious with a vote of 52% to 46%, and now turning the seat into a republican one. Many believe he won this election off of governor at the time, Ronald Regan’s cottails, as he was running for president that year. (National Almanac Journal). In the election of 1982 Dreier’s district was re-numbered to the 33rd due to the census. Ever since that election he has won every year with a margin of at least 50% or better. He faced controversy again in his 2004 election. He was going against democratic candidate Cynthia Matthews. That year the Washington Post accused him of having a relationship with his chief of staff Brad W. Smith. Smith received $156,600,the highest paid salary possible among people in his position. Cynthia Matthews came out of the closet during the election and wanted Dreier to follow suit. He did not publically address these allegations. (The New York Times)
David Dreier has held numerous positions of power over his political career. He became a member of the House Committee on Rules in January 1999, a position which he held until 2007. He was the youngest Rules chairman to have ever been appointed. Along with the rest of the rules committee they were in charge of determining under what rule other bills will come to the floor. In 2003 Dreier was Arnold Schwarzenegger co-chair for his Campaign for Governor of the state of California. To this day the two have a strong relationship and remain allies. (Werner) In 2005 Dreier was Tom Delay’s Interim replacement as house majority leader due to the fact that DeLay was indicted that year for a conspiracy charges. Dreier failed to permanently become the majority leader due to the fact that Roy Blunt was voted into that position. The Washington Post believed that “Dreier has a more moderate voting record on some social issues than DeLay.” Dreier has also been the vice president for Dreier Development which is his family’s real estate company based out of Kansas City.
Dreier is considered a moderate California Republican. He is a strong believer in the war in Iraq voting in favor of many of President Bush’s efforts to deploy troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is also against President Obama’s stimulus package, believing that we should engage is vaster tax cuts. As for illegal immigration he has shown mixed reviews. In 2004, he opposed laws that were going to to pay back the state and local governments for services rendered to illegal immigrants and supported increasing the number of work visas given to them. After his election he was in favor of increased penalties on employers of illegal immigrants and prevented states from issuing drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants. Although in 2006 he did vote in favor of the placement of a fence along the United States border. Dreier has also had mixed feelings about gay rights. In 2004 he voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would have amended the Constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. But he did support the Defense of Marriage Act, which says the federal government recognizes marriage as between a man and a woman and voted against allowing homosexual couples to adopt children. (Ontheissues.org)
Dreier’s sexual orientation has been brought up various times in his political career. In the 2004 election and in 2009 election he has been accused of being a closeted homosexual but has continued to deny the allegations. Dreier is not married and has not children. (Byrne) David Dreier has had an impressive political tenure engaging in politics since a young adult. He has held many positions of power and never allowed controversy to get the best of him. Dreier has been instrumental in passing much legislation that has helped our nation and continues to believe in platforms of a strong national defense, secure borders and limited government.

David Hero King and Prophet

...Chris Newman Michael Ritter REL124 16 December 2012 David: Hero, King and Prophet There is no doubt that King David is one of the most outstanding biblical and historical figures, who also inspired artists of all epochs to make him a hero of their work. His role was special as the second King of Israel and as a human ancestor of Jesus Christ. Thus, one can state for sure that this personality is of great importance both for Judaism and Christianity and embodies devotion to God and the idea of authority blessed by God as well. Most of information on David can be found in the Books of Samuel and Ruth. Historically, David was one of eight sons of Jesse, who in his turn descended from Judas. In the Old Testament books, it is mentioned that he was handsome, physically strong, had red hair and was an outstanding musician. He started by helping his father to care about the herd and quite succeeds in doing so. Even at a young age, he demonstrates courage as a shepherd when a lion and bear attack the herd. He conquers in the battle with beasts, for which he gains his first glory. In fact, it should be mentioned, that being a shepherd is more than a narrative element which is mentioned in the Bible. In fact, this role of David is foreshadowing his future position of Israeli ruler. In the scriptures, a shepherd is often a positive idea that implies being in charge of people. Even God has been compared to a shepherd not once like for instance in the following passage: ‘Then he blessed...

Summary of Old Testament

...Summary of the Old Testament Starting with the book of Genesis uses narrative form to tell us God created the universe. God then created man. He created man from his own image. There was Adam and Eve. They were supposed to populate the land and they both disobeyed God words by not listening. Exodus only the first part of the book is a narrative. The genre changes the law in verse 20. The narration picks up 400 years later after Jacob moved to Egypt. God used a burning bush to speak to Moses and inform him that he is the one to deliver the Israelites out of bondage. Moses did not think he could convince the Israelites and Pharaoh that this was God’s command. Moses confronted Pharaoh with ten plagues. The 10th plague began the Passover ritual. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and to Mt Sinai. When they reached Mt. Sinai, God gave the people his commandments or laws. The law taught the Israelites how to have a relationship with God and each other. Leviticus Leviticus uses the genre of law. Israelites are told how and why to have sacrificial offerings. These offerings are broken into three categories. Consecratory offerings were used to dedicate a person or thing to God. Expiatory offering were acknowledge sin. Communal offering were a way for communities to celebrate their thankfulness to God. Numbers Numbers is both the book of narrative and law. Per God’s instructions, Moses took a census of all the Israelites. This help organized them by their...

Ruth

...that Boaz might take notice of her. Boaz did in fact notice her. Later in an extreme attempt to ensure Boaz was the one to marry Ruth, Naomi told Ruth to go sleep by Boaz so as to seem that she was dishonored and therefore they would have no choice but to marry. Our group saw Naomi as a gentle meddling “pimp daddy” set on marrying off Ruth to ensure a bright future for them both. It was quite an enjoyable skit. Unfortunately, I do not recall the names of the stars in my group with whom we presented the skit. But to those women, it sure was fun! Unholy as it may sound, the word pimp and all, the Bible is full of unholy acts. This leads me to believe that God emphasizes our humanity, our weaknesses, our being prone to faults. King David fell to Bathsheba’s beauty. King Solomon fell to his fame and fortune. Samson fell to Delilah’s charms. My, how the mighty have fallen! And yet God’s compassion is evident throughout their sins…throughout our sins. God does not mean for our sinful nature to have us wallowing in regret and despair. But that we learn from them, conquer over them, and move on because life goes on. The Holy Bible is full of unholy acts to remind us that Jesus did not come for the righteous, but to call the sinners to repent. Even...

Davids

...of the Four David Artists Through out the years there were many great artists who created many great works of art, but only four Italian artists really stick out for creating the same piece all with different points of views. These artists were Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Bernini, all of who created a David sculpture. Each one very unique and different. These four artists all stand out in there own individual ways. David who was supposed to be the second king of Israel, killed Goliath with just a sling and a single stone. The story of David and Goliath goes something like this, according to the bible in 1 Samuel 17. “The Philistine army gathered for war against the Israelites. The two armies faced each other on opposite sides of a valley. A Philistine giant named Goliath, would come out in armor and challenge the Israelites to war. The King of Israel who at that time was Saul, and his whole army were scared of Goliath. David who was the youngest son of Jesse, was sent to battle for one simple task, to bring his father back news of his brothers. While there, David heard Goliath shouting and saw the fear that had began to show in the men of Israel. David volunteered himself to fight Goliath, it took sometime for Saul to agree, but finally he gave in. Dressed in his simple tunic, carrying only his staff, slingshot and a pouch full of stones, David approached Goliath. The giant cursed at him, making horrible threats and insults. David said to Goliath...

During the Time of Samuel, Why Did the People of Israel Desire a King? Why Was Saul Chosen, and, Ultimately, Why Was He Rejected? What Attribute Did David Display That Made Him a Better King Than Saul? What Sin Did

...The Lord loves his children unconditionally and takes care of them without fail. He only asks for one thing in return and that is love. All God has asked for in return for everything He has done and will do is for us to love Him above everything else. We are supposed to express our love through trust and obedience. God tells the Israelites this when He states, “[Now then] if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” (Exodus 19:5) This was saying that as long as the Israelites had Gods as their king and followed His commands then they would prosper. That is why, during the time of Samuel, God was angered when the people wanted a king on earth; God knew none of the kings chosen would guide the Israelites as they should be and would eventually bring on destruction. Throughout Israel’s history God had provided for them, such as when He provided mana for them to eat while they wandered through the desert. Time and time again the Israelites had chosen to go their own way instead of following the orders God gave. This cycle occurred again during the time of Samuel. During this time the people said, “Give us a king to judge us.” (Samuel 8:6) Even after Samuel had advised the people against having a king appointed, they decided that their way ultimately better than God’s way. God did not fight them, even though He knew the destruction...

Temptation

...14. The word specifically tells us that God does not tempt us. Knowing this, how are we tempted and why? * Idleness * Desires * At our weakest moments * The tempter uses others to tempt us Satan wants to separate us from God. He wants us to feel so weak and helpless so that we begin to lose all faith and trust in the Creator. The tempter wants to lead us astray so that we can fall deeper into sin. Once you’ve sinned, it’s easier to sin again. Temptation is like a seed. If you don’t water it will not grow but if you nourish it, it will surely blossom. We should avoid giving into temptation because the more we give in, the harder it will become to resist it. When David heard the dreadful news that Bathsheba was pregnant, he should have used it as a prompting to repent. Instead, David did what most sinners do when we are ashamed: he tried to...

David and Goliath

...In the article "How David Beats Goliath” uncovers the secret to victory as an underdog. An underdog is someone who is seen to be less than or having an disadvantage. The secrete to overcoming a strong opponent is to combat the opponent with a non-traditional approach. If ones opponent is strong in a specific skill set, it is wise to craft at strategy the works against their weakness. In the article Vivek Ranadive coached a basketball team of average 12 year old girls who were not passionate about basketball. Through observation he noticed that a lot of their opponents were passionate basketball players who frequently played as pastime. He also noticed that most teams did not “full court press” for the majority of the game. He therefore coached his team to full court press in each game since they were not as skilled in other things like dripping, shooting etc. Consequently this team went all the way to the national championship. They became strong where the “better” teams were weak and rendered victory. This same principle can be used in everyday life as well as business. For example is Greg had a desire to be a music artist or rapper. He can assess the strengths of the best-selling artist and then fill in a gap their they are lacking. If someone else has the territory covered Greg can simply find his territory and this is what will make him thrive. I plan to apply this David defeats Goliath principle in my fashion company. Instead of following the trends of the already...

She began her life in Moab, and eventually she moved to Israel. Ruth lived approximately 1000 B.C. No information is known about Ruth’s birth. Ruth is best known as one of the most godly women in the Bible. God reinforced her decision to leave her own country and she is one of the most prominent women in Jesus’ geneology. Ruth was known best for her loyalty, love, obedience and diligence. Ruth was a wife to Boaz and mother to Obed. Tursting in God again, Ruth found herself to fend for herself and to begin work in the fields, which is how she met Boaz. By being faithful and trusting God she was blessed with a son and grandson. Through Ruth’s life we can see that she is an example that God will reward our faithfulness. ...king was against the “old theocratic ideal that God alone was King of Israel (I Samuel 8:5). Saul’s reign lasted from 1029-1005BC (Roux and Williams, 2012). Saul had great military talent and garnered God’s support by reuniting the Israelites and crushing the Ammonites. Nearing the final years of Saul’s reign “he was very pre-occupied with David’s increasing fame which severely depressed him” (Roux and Williams, 2012). Saul had even gone so far as to hunt David down in order to kill him. In 1 Samuel 16:14 we see were Saul had lost God’s spirit and He had replaced it with and evil spirit. Saul had begun to suspect everyone around him of plotting against him. After God refused to bless Saul in a battle he did the unthinkable. Saul “consulted a medium at Endor” (Roux and Williams, 2012). This consultation was against the law of the land and against the laws of God. During the final battle against the Philistines Saul was so fearful of capture that he committed suicide by falling on his own sword. Unlike Saul, David was God’s choice as king for the people. Being that he was from the tribe of Judah it meant “that he was God’s choice to become the next...
