Question 1 :
a.) Document 1 is a primary source, because this exact poster was to advertise that the labor leaders were going to meet at Haymarket, Randolph St., Bet. Desplaines and Halsted, which is were the deaths happened. This is a first-hand account since this poster was to be said the exact information, also the information the police used to stop the meeting of the labor leaders which resulted into something gruesome. I can prove this because in Document 1 it said “The following poster was used by labor leaders to advertise the meeting where the bombing took place. … Good Speakers will be present to denounce the latest atrocious act of the police, the shooting of our fellow - workmen yesterday afternoon. ” This evidence demonstrates that this poster was used by the fellow labor leaders to discuss the acts of the police and to come into some terms. Although right before the meeting was going to end the police went to break it up in which resulted dynamite to be thrown at the police. Instead he is just using information that he heard in order to write about the progression of the death in the Haymarket Affair. Such as in document 3 it stated “... Parsons had told a crowd of protesters in April of 1885, “every man must lay by a part of his wages, buy a Colt’s navy revolver, a Winchester rifle, and learn how to make and use dynamite.” This evidence is before the event of the Haymarket Death’s and furthermore he didn’t publish his book until 2006. Which is right after the event, so it can be said that he used past information and research to find out the right decision to say that they were affiliated with dynamites. This concludes its a secondary source because it was written and published right after the event.
