Dear Mr. Wiesel, I just finished reading your book Night. I read it in my English class. I found your story hard to read because of all that you and your family went through. It really made me think about what I would have done if I were in your situation. I’m not sure I could have been as strong as you. I don’t think I could relate anything in my life to that terrible time in yours. So in this letter I will be thanking you for you sacrifices in order to tell your story. When I was reading your book Night I couldn’t help but to think of my own family. It truly broke my heart when you said that was the last time you saw your mother and Tzipora forever. I couldn’t imagine having to go through that with my own family. But if I had to I would try to stay strong like you. I learned a lot more about the holocaust when I read your book. I learned that Hitler didn’t directly control each camp. Your experience has taught me so much. It has taught me to stay strong when I feel weak. A question I would like to ask you, Mr. Wiesel, is do you still have the tattoo the Nazi’s gave you? Did you get it removed? Personally I would keep it to remind me everyday that if I could survive the holocaust I could survive anything and thrive. Your story hit me on a personal level. I hate racism or anything of that nature. When I read this I got mad at Hitler. Mad at the entire Nazi party. Mad at other countries with the means to stop this massacre and didn’t. Is it okay to be mad Mr. Wiesel? You are one of my role models. You are so mentally strong. I am very grateful I was able to read your book. So again, thank you so much for telling your story. You impacted so many lives. I think kids will be reading your book far into the future. So we never forget. So history never repeats itself.
