Decisions in Paradise, Part 1
Not every vacation dreamland is what it is all cracked up to be. The Kava Island is one of these places that I am talking about. The inhabitants on the island of Kava are going through very tough times right now. The company with whom I am now working with works in the pharmaceutical field, and I will help them come up with how they as a company can help in the restructuring area on the island of Kava. Identifying problems of the Kava people as well as coming up with a criterion to do so will help build our goals as well as our objectives. We will also evaluate the causes and effects of all of the trials and tribulations that have hit the Kava Island.
Two weeks after achieving my degree in business in the management field, I was hired by a pharmaceutical company in Japan. I was to be an assistant to the strategic planning director with their company. As I knew when I took this job it would require me to travel all over the world, and in this case to the island of Kava located in the South Pacific region of the world. I researched the Kava Island as I had never heard of I before, and after researching information on the background and what the island had to offer, it excited me and I very much so looked forward to working with great people and helping out as much as I could for the good of the Kava cause. The island had to be beautiful, I figured, because of its location. I was thrilled to embark on this new chapter in my life and see what I could make of myself and others.
When I arrived on the island of Kava, it was a view of something I definitely did not envision in my head for a beautiful South Pacific Island. The lots that peopled owned there were wrecks and I continued to see this view clear up until the company’s office. To have the land and all that entails when people occupy a place, a wreck to say the least, there must have been a terrible tragedy that had taken place to have this island appear this way. I met Alex, who is my supervisor, and upon our meeting I mistook her for the company’s receptionist in this building on the island of Kava. After the mix-up, I learned that on Kava Island there is a definite community need for assistance. Alex explained the problems on the island and all that everyone has been going through.
After listening to Alex’s information about Kava, I have made some identifications on the problems that are here and taking place on the island of Kava. The location that Kava is in in the South Pacific does not help any of the problems that they are having on the island one bit. The potential threats that have put Kava at risk are many natural disasters such as typhoons, hurricanes, eruptions from the volcano, earthquakes and also epidemics amongst the people like avian flu and HIV. Any of these natural disasters or human illnesses can happen at any time here on the island. With the natural disasters that are taking place on the island, the infrastructure and the crops are deeply impacted and it is very hard to survive and make do on a daily basis.
With having a big population, 50% under 15 years old, makes this small island of Kava have a few problems to deal with right off the bat. There is quite a big diversity going on throughout the island’s population when it comes to cultures, languages and also religions. Also, there is an issue with the organizations that are supposed to be there to help the community members. These organizations include governmental service on all levels, military groups, missionary groups and also the businesses on the island itself as well as off of the island as well.
Also, I am beginning to have an issue of where I am suppose to work and where I am going to be working out of. There is a huge mess at the island office, and I am feeling the pressure already and I’m wondering if I am really cut out for this project that has been put in front of me. I am feeling alone as I have no family or friends to turn to here and I am wondering how long I will have to be here on this mess of what they call Kava Island.
The company has relayed to me that they are wanting to give to the community members a high quality, safety, and security as well as medical supplies to use for anything that may come their way. The goal is to bring this island and the inhabitant’s prosperity for themselves. We want to have their economic environment grow positively, the programs here to help them be stronger, and bring education to all, young and old. As a company’s goals, we want to succeed while doing this for the people of Kava, but also have the community know we are there and aren’t going anywhere. We want them to have values that are higher when it comes to their businesses; and by doing this, we will help the Kava people.
We as a company also want to come up with a drug that helps people who have been affected by some of the many illnesses on Kava Island. The founder of the company has a very deep commitment to doing what is needed for these people. Patients and their families are what is first and foremost the most important here on the island, and with raising their benefits will help them out tremendously. So, it is safe to say that our mission while here on Kava Island is to meet all medical needs that are needed.
The effects of the problem need to be evaluated. The island is not a safe place to be with regards to the natural disasters and the illnesses that take place here. The community members need to be protected better. Everyday could throw something new and dangerous their way that can be very life-threatening to all. The many different types of people here on the island may cause some friction as well. Languages are a big struggle as there are many different languages on the island. This could pose a major problem if a problem or a natural disaster or an illness were to happen. Also, there are many whom are not educated. This definitely is affecting the professional, financial and educational growth of the community. The livelihood of Kava rests in their hands now.
The crops that are depleted when a disaster strikes as well as the tourist numbers who visit the island either makes them or breaks Kava’s economy. If this broke Kava’s economy for instance, my job could and would be affected. If I did not do well while I was here on this island, I could potentially lose this job forever. My supervisor could lose her job as well. So with that said, if we weren’t going to help the people of Kava, Kava would be way worse off than what they presently are.

...Decisions in Paradise Part II Lisa M. Campbell MGT/350 December 19, 2011 Professor Rebecca Marek Decisions in Paradise Part II The decision to open a hotel on the island of Kava has been a challenge for owner Lisa Campbell. Decision-making and numerous situations are evaluated to ensure this decision-making will be best not only for the hotel but also that it will benefit the local islanders and the people who visit Kava temporarily. The Marriott Kava hotel is projected to be a medium size facility. The accommodations will ensure local islanders, patients receiving extended health care at the local cancer center, families, couples, and even business travelers will have a place to stay during their visit. The decision is if it will be more beneficial to build a standalone hotel in the middle of the island, merge the business with the local cancer center, or build the hotel near the airport ensuring it is near the new transit shuttle bus company. Building a standalone hotel ensures that if the tourism and visitor rate to the island increases the hotel will have no obligations and commitments to another company and able to focus on just providing space for guest of the hotel. The downside of this is that the business owner limits herself to other business opportunities if the standalone method is sought after. Business is based on the needs of living areas on a temporary basis. The developer that has come to the island to build housing projects for the...

...Decisions in Paradise Part II Decisions in Paradise Part II Kava, an important tropical island nation in the South Pacific, overwhelmed with social, environmental, economic, and financial pressures. We are here at the request of the government of Kava, and with the support of its citizens. The Company is reviewing our ideas to relieve some of these pressures. Implementing some sort of youth-oriented work study and organized activity program, and investing to improve the infrastructure of Kava. Although these ideas are worthwhile, ideas without a plan to actualize them are just ideas. We assessed the effects of the problems, and we have identified problems we wish to solve. A decision, one way or the other, must be made. Several decision-making processes are available for use to determine the best course of action. The purpose of a decision-making process is to diagnose the issues needing clarification, identifying options and the impacts of those options, and finally to arrive at a conclusive decision. We will use the Six Thinking Hats technique to scrutinize our ideas and arrive at the best decision for the nation of Kava and its people. Six Thinking Hats is a decision making process, developed by Edward de Bono, which allows us to explore different points of view about difficult challenges (The de Bono Group LLC ). Seeing ideas from differing points is a sound strategy to follow when tackling complex issues. The Value Based Management (2010) website states...

...Running Head: Decisions in Paradise Part II Decisions in Paradise Part II NAME MGT 350 January 23, 2012 Introduction Within the context of Decisions in Paradise I, I discussed some of the different obstacles that TEVA, USA is encountering while trying to enter the country of Kava, a South Pacific Island. I also shared different approaches that my company TEVA, USA can take to address the many challenges that the island presents. Any solution that I, or my partners, propose will have an effect on Kava and this should be taken into consideration when implementing our techniques. The process of assessing the available solutions will be explored within Decisions in Paradise II. The most difficult problem to overcome is that Kava is a hard island to inhabit because of the unavoidable issues the face with disasters and disease. In addition to the mess that the island is in, the office that TEVA occupies is also in havoc. They lack sufficient employees and the office in unorganized. After identifying the problems at hand, I have determined that the basic solutions would be; hire a new receptionist, clean up the office space, and implementing contingency plans for every natural disaster that may impact the land. This would include a safety plan, a cleaning plan, and a safe place for everyone to go when disasters do strike. Decision-making Technique Several influences have been identified to lead to the issues that are affecting Kava today. The main...

While the success of any business is important for the C.E.O and management of the business, the company should also be involved in the community events and be accountable for social responsibility. As Kava is a small island in which tourism and young high school to college students account for its population (University of Phoenix, 2011). Some changes to the company would be beneficial. For example, having a Decision-Maker thinker in the group is a good starting point. Some of the attributes of a decision maker are the thinking styles critical thinker might poses are: collective, democratic Autocratic or concessions. In addition, risk management/risk rating system (RSS) is an important attribute to have in a company, especially when the business is being based at an area where some of the business threads are diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Being able to identify the interference and assumptions (Elder & Paul, 2002) of this location is key to implement the appropiate decision-making technique. Although all of the decision-making techniques are functional and produce a significant turnaround for the business, the technique most appropriate would be the collective...

Explore How Religion Is Presented and Developed in Richard Ii and King Lear.

...Both plays, Richard II and King Lear, start by Richard and Lear believing that the gods are on their side and that God put them there for a reason (the divine right of kings). However throughout the plays their attitude towards divine assistance changes and they both realise they will have to pay for their mistakes. The divine right of kings in Richard II is present throughout the play. In Act 3, Scene 2 Richard says, ‘not all the water in the rough rude sea can wash the balm off from an anointed king;’. Earlier in the play Richard refers to himself as ‘England’ and the common people as the ‘sea’. He thinks that ‘the rough rude sea’ (the common people) cannot get rid of him because he is an ‘anointed king’. This means that he believes that God chose him to be king over everyone else. Shakespeare makes Richard appear, to the reader, as a egoistic, selfish king that doesn’t spare a thought for the common people of England by labeling them as the ‘rough rude sea’. This suggest his relationship with them isn’t good. In Richard II there are many references to the bible. England is described as ‘this other Eden, demi-paradise’ because Richard is ruining England like Adam and Eve ruined the paradise which God created when they were tempted by the snake. He’s making a ‘demi-paradise’ by making the wrong decisions. In act 3, scene 4 the Queen says, ‘Thou, old Adam’s likeness, set to dress this garden, How dares thy harsh rude tongue sound this unpleasing news? What Eve, what serpent...

Critical Thinking - Islam

...Critical Thinking Islam Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx L33333333 Apologetics 104 Liberty University I. Part One: What would the worldview of Islam be? i. The Question of Origin – In the Islamic worldview, the origins of the faith lie in their god's initial creation of the universe and everything in it, including the first parents, Adam and his wife. For a time, all creatures lived in perfect peace, but then they were tempted and disobeyed their god's rules. As a result, Adam and his wife were banished from Paradise. However, their god reassured Adam that the banishment was temporary. He promised to send messengers to Adam and these messengers would bring his guidance. Adam was reassured that those who follow their god’s guidance will have no reason to feel fear or have grief. ii. The Question of Identity – For an Islamic, their personal identity is in relation to Allah. They fully submit to the will of Allah according to the Quran. It is this relationship to their Creator which defines, establishes and maintains their very humanity. From Allah they derive their understanding and knowledge of what is right, what is wrong, how they came to be, who and what they are and thus the purpose of their life here on this planet. iii. The Question of Meaning/Purpose - So what does the Creator, Allah, tell us about our purpose in life? The Quran states that mankind’s basic trust, our responsibility, is to believe in and worship Allah: “And I did not create Jinn and mankind...

...Decision In Paradise Emmanuel Brew Riverson MGT 350 Critical Thinking: Strategies In Decision Making Kevin McPhee May 5,2012 Decisions in Paradise – Part II Most business decisions are taken by senior executives based on assessments that will determine in advance what will happen if the business takes the expected direction. Financial tools (i.e. cost benefit analysis) are truly helpful during the decision-making process; however, they should never be confused with the decision as the outcome of the decision-making process (Langdon, 2001). In “Decision in Paradise – Part 2”, Joey will utilize a decision-making technique that is suitable for this scenario as well provide a step-by-step analysis while utilizing the technique. Finally, he will discuss the decision-making model he selected and how the model selected influences his proposed solutions. Cost Benefit Analysis The decision-making technique that Joey selected for his business study at Kabo is the cost benefit analysis. The cost benefit analysis is completed in order to determine how well or poor a plan will turn out. Cost benefit analysis is also known as “running the numbers” as it relies on adding positive factors and subtracting the negative ones in order to determine a net result. The difference that is found between benefits and costs will advise if the plan is feasible. The cost benefit analysis must include all the costs, all the benefits and properly quantify them in order to get accurate analysis. Although...

It will also describe the tools, technology, organizational and environmental obstacles she will face. She will have to play more than one role while being on the island of Kava.  Kava is a small island in the South Pacific. Several natural disasters have claimed the island of Kava, and have caused the island to be plagued with tragedy. This small island is in desperate need of help on various levels; one main area is education. Higher education is a must and has been at the centre of intense debate among proponents and opponents from various regions of the world Over 50% of Kava’s population is under the age of fifteen, and the island is made up of so many ethnic mixes of indigenous South Pacific tribes that include, Asian (Chinese primarily), Spanish, French, African, and since World War II, a sizeable number of Americans. With respect to religions, 50% being indigenous, while leaving the remaining 50% divided between Christian, Buddhist and Islamic.  The people of Kava seem to have their own way of life and their own way of how things are structured.
