Deficit Spikes Expected to be $1.65 Trillion In the Constitution it states that all taxing or spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. Much of the business, of Congress today, is concerned with raising revenues and approving government expenditures through the budget process. (Schmidt, Shelley, and Bardes, 2010-2011). The White House released statements that expect the federal deficit to spike to 1.65 trillion dollars in the current fiscal year. The effects of this is putting pressure on both parties (Democratic and Repulican) to deal with the current levels of debt. To start combating this deficit problem, President Barack Obama is proposing a 3.73 trillion dollar budget for the upcoming year. Under Obama’s proposal the deficit is predicted to fall to 627 billion by 2017, if it is accepted, which is unlikely. (Paletta and Boles, 2011). Obama’s budget will most likely be rewritten by Republicans that dominate the house. Republicans and Obama disagree on where the money should really go. The major areas where Obama and the Republican dominated house differ deal with energy and environmental policy. The Republicans feel that Obama’s plan does not have the ability to drop federal spending or the federal deficit to the levels they desire. (Hook and Paletta , 2011). With the deficit our country is facing I am beginning to understand the need to have powers in the House, Senate, and Presidency on the same page. With the powers separated between Democrats and Republicans little progress is being made. However, with the trillion plus dollar debt our country faces more compromise is being made.

Subprime

...UNDERSTANDING THE SUBPRIME LENDING The term "subprime" refers to the credit status of the borrower, which is being less than ideal. Subprime lending is a general term that refers to the practice of making loans to borrowers who do not qualify for the best market interest rates because of their deficient credit history. According to the U.S. Department of Treasury guidelines issued in 2001, "Subprime borrowers typically have weakened credit histories that include payment delinquencies i.e. non-payment of the mortgage, and possibly more severe problems such as charge-offs, judgments, and bankruptcies. They may also display reduced repayment capacity as measured by credit scores, debt-to-income ratios, or other criteria that may encompass borrowers with incomplete credit histories." This is when the borrowers have a poor credit history that is they are bad borrowers. Subprime lending is also called B-Paper, near-prime, or second chance lending, as the borrowing is done to customers with a poor credit history or no credit history without any security in return of the money lending. Subprime lending encompasses a variety of credit instruments, including subprime mortgages, subprime car loans, and subprime credit cards, among others. A subprime loan is offered at a rate higher than A-paper loans due to the increased risk. Subprime lenders To access this increasing market, lenders often take on risks associated...

...Economic Outlook, Prospects, and Policy Challenges 01 CHAPTER This year’s Economic Survey comes at a time of unusual volatility in the international economic environment. Markets have begun to swing on fears that the global recovery may be faltering, while risks of extreme events are rising. Amidst this gloomy landscape, India stands out as a haven of stability and an outpost of opportunity. Its macro-economy is stable, founded on the government’s commitment to fiscal consolidation and low inflation. Its economic growth is amongst the highest in the world, helped by a reorientation of government spending toward needed public infrastructure. These achievements are remarkable not least because they have been accomplished in the face of global headwinds and a second successive season of poor rainfall. The task now is to sustain them in an even more difficult global environment. This will require careful economic management. As regards monetary and liquidity policy, the benign outlook for inflation, widening output gaps, the uncertainty about the growth outlook and the over-indebtedness of the corporate sector all imply that there is room for easing. Fiscal consolidation continues to be vital, and will need to maintain credibility and reduce debt, in an uncertain global environment, while sustaining growth. On the government’s “reformto-transform” agenda, a series of measures, each incremental but collectively meaningful have been enacted. There have also...
