The folded napkin can have an elaborate placement on the table as a folded origami type or in a simple placement beside the dinner plates with a single napkin ring. Whatever the preference, the napkin will always be an eye-catching addition to any table setting. Napkin folding found its origins centuries ago. The Middle Age set a standard for table setting and manner as they became a major concern to people, particularly the royalty especially with the invention of the fork in the 1600s. This period in time is also a benchmark for when folding napkins became a highly pursued art for. This art allowed he homeowner to display their pride, as well as time and dedication to their homes overall appearance. I never thought that just by putting a simple folded napkin on a table could make such a difference but it really does. Whether it just a simple pocket to hold the silverware or it’s an intricate crown to give a little elegance to any dinner plate. I am going to show you how to do just one of the many napkin folding techniques. It is called the crown and it is really quite easy to do. So let’s get started.
STEP 1 First start with your napkin in front of you, face-down and completely flat.
STEP 2
Next, we are going to fold the napkin in half diagonally so that it looks like a triangle.
STEP 3 Make sure that the open ends of the triangle are pointing away from you.

STEP 4
Fold the right-corner up so that the point rests directly on top of the middle-corner. The edge of this new flap should lie on the center line of the napkin.
STEP 5
Repeat step four on the other side, bringing the left-most corner up to meet the middle-corner of the diamond shape. Then once you are done with that, flip the folded napkin over.
STEP 6
Fold the bottom of the napkin up about 2/4’s of the way and press this fold down really well.
STEP 7
Fold the smaller triangle down so the point rests on the near edge of the napkin and press again.

STEP 8
Curl the left and right sides of the napkin up so they meet in the middle and tuck one into the other.
STEP 9
Stand it up and tug at it where needed to even it up and round it out.

Now you have a fashionable, classy looking napkin that could be used for any occasion. It does not take more than a few minutes to make a dinner table go from boring to absolutely stunning by just adding one unique element.
