Dental Assisting

Are you struggling to find a career that you might like? A question people always ask is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Most of the time we freeze up and don't have an answer to this question. No One wants to pick the wrong career considering that is going to be what they do everyday for the rest of their lives. There are many excellent careers out there to choose from. You can choose something in the medical field, or a trade such as auto mechanics and cosmetology, or you can be something as serious as an astronaut. Choosing a career is all up to you and what you really enjoy doing. The career I found myself interested in is dental assisting. A dental assistant is the person who assist the dentist with whatever …show more content…
Without the assistant the dentist would not be able to help the patient as effectively. The dental assistant is the person who provides the dentist with the instruments and equipment needed to get the job done. It is the assistant's job to seat the patient and get them ready to see the dentist. At this point it is also up to the assistant to make sure the patient is comfortable and calm. Once the dentist gets finished with their job, it is then the dental assistant's job to clean up behind them. The dental assistant wipes down and sterilizes the operation room, and all of the used instruments. The assistant then needs to set the operation room back up for the next patient. A dental assistant has to move fast and make sure everything is done correctly so they can get the next patient in and out on time. Sometimes a dental assistant also handles the patient's payments and scheduling appointment times. Basically a dental assistant becomes the dentist right hand man. They have to work together to keep the business well organized. Without the dental assistant the dentist job would be …show more content…
There is much more to the mouth then people realize. Assistants learn a large variety of oral anatomy. Two of the most important parts of oral anatomy is knowing each individual tooth, and the many different nerves in the mouth. It is important to know each tooth individually, because each tooth is different. Each tooth has a different cut and pattern in it. Each tooth has a number starting from one through thirty two. Your teeth are categorized by molars, pre-molars, cuspids ”canine teeth”, and your incisors. This is how dental assistants and dentist identify which tooth will need to be worked on or looked at. There is a wide range of nerves in a human mouth. Each nerve is connected to a different set of teeth. Using the nerves is how the dentist and dental assistant numbs a patient's mouth so the patient can have a painless operation. If a dental assistant fails to learn the nerves, the assistant will not know where to insert an anesthetic to numb the patient's mouth. This is only the beginning of the oral anatomy that a dental assistant has to learn. Once a person starts learning oral anatomy, they will be amazed at how many parts are in the mouth that they never knew

Furthing Your Dental Assisting Education

...Furthering Your Dental Assisting Education INTRODUCTION With today’s economy, college students need to be completely informed with the chosen career path they are heading into. Choosing a career path with little to no chance of success would be a total waste of money, effort, and time. The problem with dental assisting is there is not as many vast opportunities to succeed in this career as there are for an individual who is interested in becoming a dental hygienist. CAREER ANALYSIS OF DENTAL ASSISTANTS America’s Career InfoNet states the definition of a dental assistant is to assist the dentist, set up the equipment, prepare patient for treatment, and keep precise records. Dental assistants work alongside the dentist to provide assistance during dental procedures. They sterilize and disinfect instruments to prepare materials required to treat each patient. Assistants also create a warm, welcoming environment for the patients before, during, and after treatment (United States, “Dental Assistants”). Additionally, there is a list of different practice settings available for assistants; group practices, solo practices, and orthodontic settings are available to name a few (“Dental Assistants”). In most states, dental assistants can learn their skills on the job; however, in order for assistants to perform more advanced functions, many states require assistants to obtain at least a certificate or even a license. Two year programs lead to an associate’s degree. These programs are...

Dental Assistant Research Paper

...I chose to become a dental assistant because I always wanted to work in the health profession. I enjoyed working with people since I was a child and now I want to be a dental assistant. Although dental assisting is an exciting career and highly rewarding, the most important excitement is I like helping people. Since last year dental assisting became my highly professional career than other career, like nursing or another medical profession. In my essay, I will argue about the pros and cons of the dental assisting profession. To get in the dental assistant program for certificate, there is a one-year training program. They require you to have a high school diploma or GED to start the class. If you have financial aid to pay for your class or for book, that’s good. If you are not eligible for financial aid because of your income, you must pay for your class before the due date. Once you are done with training, they give you a test at the end and if you pass the test you can get a job with your certificate. Students are assigned to work in local dental...

Career Choices for a Healthcare Manager There are many career choices a person could go into when becoming a healthcare manager, which I will begin to discuss. CareerBuilder has an easy to access advice and resource tab containing different links to concepts one might need assistance with when applying for a job. For example, there is a link “TheWorkBuzz.com” that will take you to their site and teach you how to search for a job, how to network successfully, how to write a cover letter and resume, what an employer is looking for in an interview, and lastly when and how to negotiate salary appropriately. ...listening skills, be fair, and know what you are doing. I have seen too many people in leadership positions that cannot handle the pressure or their own employees. I think that being a good listener is something that employees want so that if they have any problems they can express them and be heard. Being fair to all employees is something else that you have to do. You cannot show favoritism because you like one person better or be mean to someone that you do not like. It will not go over well if you are mistreating your employees. Lastly, you need to know what you are doing as far as your job goes. Too many people get into positions and fail to actually learn the job the correct way. Employees can see that a mile away and really hurt your career progression. I have seen too many take on a leadership role and cannot perform up to the optimum level...
