DesignIT Network Proposal
Executive Summary DesignIT started as a graphics art company that contracted their work until now. The company has since grown into a popular graphic arts company. The kind of growth that DesignIT has experienced in the short time they have been in business has created a need for operational expansion. DesignIT’s rapid growth through the graphic arts industry allowed DesignIT the ability to increase the size of their business and keep their clients happy by maintaining a good price point with a good product. The growth has also opened the business up to a wide array of challenges concerning information systems, which will have to be dealt with as the company moves forward. The following proposal will set forth the recommendations necessary to develop DesignIT’s information system processes, to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the businesses new location.
Primary project goals: • High Speed Internet Access. • Firewall • Anti-virus/Malware protection • Six Computers • Three Laser Color Printers • Wireless Access for Portable Devices. A financial allotment of $45,000 has been added into the 2014 fiscal year budget for the completion of this plan. The development and implementation of this plan will follow the expectations set forth in DesignIT’s mission statement. DesignIT has a very strong company mission statement. The mission includes focus, customer relationships, the employees, future goals and expansion. Without these mission statements, the company would not have a solid ground to build upon for strong company business.
Detailed Project Plan There are a number of key operational areas at DesignIT that need to be implemented if the company wishes to keep pace with other competing companies. The recommendations for improvement fall into four distinct categories; • Network Design/Infrastructure. • Hardware and Software. • Internet Access • Firewall Using Windows 2008 Servers DesignIT’s infrastructure will be server-based, we will use TCP/IP, Server 2008 has Hyper V which allows the server to manage virtual machines and address specific items compared to Server 2003. Server 2008 is managed easier from an administrator’s standpoint. Windows Server 2008 R2 introduces a new type of connectivity called DirectAccess—a powerful way for remote users to seamlessly access corporate resources without requiring a traditional VPN connection and client software. Using technologies that shipped in Windows Server 2008, Microsoft has added simple management wizards that enable administrators to configure SSTP and IPv6 across both R2 and Windows 7 clients to enable the basic DirectAccess connection, and then augment that connection with additional R2 management and security tools, including management policies and NAP. The updated Web server includes features that streamline management by extending IIS Manager, implementing the IIS PowerShell Provider and taking advantage of .NET on Server Core. IIS 7.5 also integrates new support and troubleshooting features, including configuration logging and a dedicated Best Practice. There will be a Cisco ME 2600X Series Ethernet Access Switch with 24 ports. We will run fiber connections from this switch. There will be a wireless router installed, so the employees can access Wi-Fi when needed. The wireless router will be installed in the server room along with the switch, so we will install a Cisco 2600 Series Access Point inside of the conference room. This will provide plenty of wireless coverage throughout the building. We would use Trend Micro Worry Free anti-virus the advanced version. This anti-virus program will safeguard against phishing and social engineering attacks, this also provides us with easy mobile device security. The laptops that we will use are the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p. This laptop comes with the Intel Core i7 processor, it has 8 GB DDR3 Ram, 1000 GB SATA hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT750M Graphics Coprocessor. This computer is perfect for graphic design, it has an amazing processor that processes a high amount of information in little time. When it comes to the printers I’d have one HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476dw. This would give the team members access to the touch to print option from mobile devices. Scan to e-mail feature as well. The other two printers we would use would be HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color M251nw, these two printers have Wi-Fi capability and could be placed on each side of the room near the cubicles and the MFP could be placed in the conference room or behind the reception area. Depending on what type of graphic design that will be done we will go with a generic graphic design program such as Microsoft Publisher on each computer. For the main graphic design software I’d recommend that Adobe Creative Suite Design be used. It is one of, if not the best software to use when it comes to graphic design. The internet access that we will use for DesignIT would be Verizon’s FIOS, this would give the company superior performance when it comes to internet access. Verizon will run a fiber connection all the way to our building. These Fiber connections will give us download speeds of 15-150 mbps, along with an upload speed between 5-35 mbps. Working with graphic images it will provide our designers with the fastest way to transfer information electronically. DesignIT wants a wireless connection to use with its mobile devices. We will give them a cloud to use wirelessly. You virtually access any information whenever you need it from wherever you are. I see it being a good option for this type of business. Some of the employees may have to work from out of town and with the cloud function they can access this information wherever they are. Single point of failure is divided into three areas. These areas are hardware failures, software failures, and database corruption. We will mitigate these by using redundancy. Using redundancy will provide redundant software and hardware components. We can deploy multiple, replicated instances of the directory server across separate hosts, or we can use redundant arrays of independent disks (RAID) for storage of directory server databases. The goal of this is to provide a high availability of the network.
|ITEM |ESTIMATED COST |
|Hardware – Computers, Printers, Access Point, Switch, etc. |$13,500 |
|Software – Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Publisher, Trend Micro, |$9,700 |
|etc. | |
|Fiber Cable |$300.00 per 1,000 ft. |
|Labor Costs |$10,000 |
|Total |$33,500.00 |

A table below will break down the IT layout for DesignIT

t The proposed systems will afford DesignIT the opportunity to increase profits and market share by generating a larger customer base. The organization of the information systems will permit DesignIT to increase the bottom line while decreasing operating expenses. The company itself as well as its employees and shareholders will benefit from these implementations. DesignIT’s customers, however, will benefit more significantly than anyone with the implementation to the proposed information systems.

...to adjust the firm’s successful design process—to change a winning game. In April 2006, Bang & Olufsen (B&O) sold a range of televisions, audio systems, loudspeakers, telephones, and other products (see Exhibit 1) in more than 60 countries. The company had a worldwide reputation for idea-based products of high quality and artistic design, many of which held places of honor in the permanent collections of the world’s greatest art museums. (According to a citation at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, B&O had “delivered the largest and most consistent design portfolio among the world’s industrial companies.”3) This level of accomplishment translated into high price points (see Exhibit 2) and profit margins, realized through an exclusive network of dealers, from devoted and discerning customers. To create products with appearance and functionality that made them instantly recognizable, the company had evolved unique design and development processes. B&O gave designers free reign to create new products that would challenge engineers to find a way to manufacture them. New ideas, materials, and technologies made their way into B&O products only if designers put...
