A challenge in my past that required perseverance and determination happened somewhat recently and affected my spouse a little more that it did me. This challenge was childbirth. The planning, the stay at the hospital, the minutes of sleep, the complications, and the new baby made this time very difficult for both of us. If we thought that the pregnancy was rough, then we had no idea what was in store for us during the birthing process.
The planning was difficult because it involved the decision to start this process instead of putting it off. The stay at the hospital was taxing because the IVs caused numerous bathroom breaks and the side effects of the medication caused tremors. Not to mention that the sleeping arrangements were not very comfortable. Even less so with a pregnant belly I presume. While these discomforts lasted the entire stay, when the actual birthing process started things started to get really hairy.
Thankfully, my wife is tough. Combined with the medicine, the contractions were more uncomfortable than painful. Added to that was the modesty, or lack thereof. It made things embarrassing for her. The worst part of this entire process, though, is the actual birth. It was done surgically and, in short, my wife almost died on the operating table. Things worked out in the end, though. Major crisis averted. After that, things started getting better. The new baby made all the pains and discomforts disappear, but added stress and more sleepless nights; which, at that point, were overshadowed by the joy and happiness of a newborn.
In the end, everything worked out and the both of us came out of the hospital invigorated and ready to start our new life with this new addition. This four day period was the most painful, tiring, difficult, and joyous time of both of our lives and required perseverance and determination to get through.

...be overcome, but can also make you a better person. She is not pleased with her life as a Farm Girl, and she voices her displeasure often throughout the first three quarters of the essay. “I think to myself, ‘A typical ten-year-old child does not have to wake up at five in the morning to do chores!’” (Hemauer, 2011) However, once she realizes the quality of person she has become, she makes an educated and reasoned conclusion that it is due to the work she did helping with chores on her father’s farm. “Though I hated it growing up, working on the farm has taught me many lessons about life, and it has shaped me into the individual I am today.” (Hemauer, 2011) Another point she tries to make as well is that life on a working farm is difficult. She opens with a description of performing her morning chores with her brother and her sisters. This particular morning is described as being very cold and windy due to a blizzard: There is a brisk and bitter wind accompanied by icy snowflakes that feel like needles digging into our faces. We don’t turn back. We desperately want to, but we know my father is patiently waiting for us to help him milk and feed the cows before school starts...

Summary and Personal Response

...The story I chose to summarize is “Farm Girl” by Jessica Hemauer; which she writes as a narrative essay. I believe that Hemauer told her story to let the reader know how she grew up as a child on a farm; that while it was hard work, it does pay off in the end. She realized that hard work can teach responsibility, time management, and can be used in every aspect of life. I believe her audience for the paper was youth; someone who could take away that while life is hard you can learn from it and be successful. At first, it seemed like such a difficult life for a young person to have. But by the end of the story I had changed how I felt. She did have a hard life at a young age, but she learned from it and used it in every step of life. While most people her age were still struggling to manage their lives, she learned early what she needed to do to manage her own. Jessica and her siblings had a very strict upbringing. Although “there was no sense complaining,” (Hemauer, 2011) the farm was the most important thing and the everyday routine was something that had to be done. Having to wake up at five in the morning and complete farm chores with her siblings before school while her peers are still sleeping in their warm beds. Not being able to have a social life within the school or with her peers. The cows had to be fed; however, the equipment used to milk the cows had to be sterilized before every use. The one thing that Jessica enjoyed the most was feeding the newborn calves...

As the company is maturing, its growth has slowed down as compared to initial stages, but the power the computer software maker has over the flow of the world's information is very formidable. On the other side we have Google Inc., a company just a decade old but with power that rivals Microsoft in many ways. In a sense, Microsoft provides the river, and Google provides the current. That's probably not what we (Microsoft executives) had in mind, but that's reality. Now it’s time for us to weigh alternatives for improving the company’s position in the market for Internet Searches and related advertising. PURPOSE OF THE REPORT In this report we are going to discuss the issues faced by Microsoft, the opportunity available to Microsoft and the analysis of the issues. ...Unethical decisions result from an individual’s choice rather than their work environment.” Critically discuss. Unethical decisions are decisions that aren’t influenced by any moral compass as they are solely catered towards the individuals self interests. Unethical decisions certainly do result mostly from ones work environment rather than an individual’s choice. Individuals choice does have an impact on the decision making process however ultimately when an unethical decision is chosen and partaken up on it is always comes down to pressures from ones work environment.
