Historical Exploration

...1.1 Historical Exploration Digitization of Information Digitization is the representation of an object, image, sound, document or a signal by a discrete set of points or samples. The result is called digital representation. Strictly speaking, digitizing means simply capturing an analog signal in digital form. For a document the term means to trace the document image or capture the "corners" where the lines end or change direction. The term digitization is often used when diverse forms of information, such as text, sound, image or voice, are converted into a single binary code. Computers predate to the Digital Age. Prior to the 1950s, computers were analog, using vacuum tubes. Later, vacuum tubes were used in conjunction with diodes. Like the digital computers that came later, analog computers used binary logic, but instead of being directly controlled by a program consisting of 1s and 0s, the state of the vacuum tube was changed by a change in voltage. The voltage change was analogous to a 1 (power on) versus a 0 (power off). In 1956, MIT built the TX0, the first general-purpose, programmable computer to use transistors. Digitization occurs in two parts: Discretization and Quantization. Discretization is the reading of an analog signal A, and, at regular time intervals (or frequency), sampling the value of the signal at the point. Each such reading is called a sample and may be considered to have infinite precision at this stage. Quantization is when the samples are rounded...

Radiohead Case Analysis

...Over the past decade, the music industry has experienced extreme change due to digitization. Not only has it affected the way that music is recorded and produced, but it has also affected the entire business model of how music is promoted and distributed to the public, as well as how revenue is earned. Prior to the digital era, major labels were one of the primary distributors of music, and physical record sales were the one of industry’s main revenue sources. But when recordings were transformed to electronic format and free music sources such as illegal downloading and streaming evolved, this main revenue source was taken away. However, music digitization also opened many doors for artists, allowing them the tools and capabilities to promote and distribute their own work, as well as exposing their music to a wider audience. Digitization began to cause problems for major labels for two reasons – the first being that free music services such as peer-to-peer file sharing and music streaming caused a large decline in album sales. This revenue loss caused music industry professionals to seek revenue elsewhere, such as in concert sales. The second problem digitization caused for record labels was that artists no longer relied on labels for their music promotion and distribution, as they now had these tools at their own disposal. In the old business model, before the Internet and music digitization evolved, the primary way for music distribution was through a record label. But in...

...number of problems. Capacity constraints and the non-addressable nature of the analogue cable TV services results in several problems including complex business transactions and a high level of litigation. Digital technology offers the requisite solution holding the promise of better satisfaction at all levels of the distribution chain including the consumers. Besides, digital addressable systems can enhance the scope of the services offered including broadband services. It is not surprising therefore that, during the consultation process, an overwhelming majority of the stakeholders have favoured early implementation of digitization in the country. We in the Authority, after duly taking into consideration all aspects, have worked out a framework of implementation of digitization with addressability in India by December 2013. In doing so, we are suggesting several measures such as fiscal incentives, right of way etc. to enable this process. It is hoped that these recommendations would be acted upon quickly to the benefit of all stakeholders. (Dr. J. S. With the rise in the importance of the Internet over the past 10-15 years, it has become the banking norm for millions of people. For most of its long history, banking was strictly an in-person affair. Bank customers would drive, bike, or walk to their local branch to make a deposit or withdrawal or to see about a loan. Then along came ATM machines, which allowed people to make cash transactions without actually entering the bank. With the advent of online banking, bank customers no longer have to rely on the phone, in-person visits to a bank teller, or visits to the ATM machine in order to conduct meaningful banking business. Innovation in Product

...Group 16 Innovation in Product Submission #2 Anant Jain B15131 Ankit Goel B15132 Anshul Jain B15134 2015 1. Introduction Innovation is refinement in a product, process, method, or a part thereof. Innovation has become a buzz-word in recent years, with increasing relevance of ‘innovation-centred business models’, and ‘innovation-led-entrepreneurism’. In fact, the success stories of Industrial America, technological Silicon Valley, American financial market, etc., are tales of constant innovations. ‘Digitization’ has shifted access to knowledge and information from a privilege to convenience: anyone who is willing and able to pay, has an access. Also, sharing of information and flow of payments and tenders through internet has changes businesses like never before. 1.1 What is Product Innovation? Product Innovation can be defined as creating a new product, or making changes in the existing product, or creating a differentiation in terms of utility or features of the product. Light Bulb, telephone, microprocessors, digital displays were great innovation in terms of making of new products, i-pods, cell phone, integrated circuits were innovations in terms of modification in existing products. Not all product innovations are technological breakthroughs- take a safety pin for example. Even candle, fountain pen, and scissors are examples of path-breaking revolution, that didn’t require significant technology, or invention capabilities. On the other...

...DTH INDUSTRY | | Submitted by:Bishwajeet Jha Tushar ChhapadwalPavani GeethaKrishna Prasad | | | | | | HISTORY OF DTH SERVICE INDUSTRY The history of Indian Television dates back to the launch of Doordarshan, the country’s national television network in 1959. Television was then seen as a luxury item that could be afforded only by a chosen few. The transmission was in Black & White. The 9th Asian games which were held in 1982 in the country’s capital New Delhi heralded the mark of color television broadcast in India. In 1991, Indian economy was liberalized from the License Raj and major initiatives like inviting foreign direct investment, deregulation of domestic businesses emerged. This lead to the influx of foreign channels like Star TV and creation of domestic satellite channels like Sun TV and Zee TV. This virtually destroyed the monopoly held by Doordarshan. In 1992, the Cable TV industry started. If one could list down the revolutions that happened in Indian entertainment industry, Cable TV would top the list. It has literally changed the way the average Indian watches the Television. The number of channels increased suddenly from 2 and the real entertainment started. Every city in India had a complex web of co-axial cables running through the streets with a new breed of entrepreneurs called as cablewallahs or Local Cable Operator (LCO) taking in charge of distribution. The film industry was shocked by this sudden growth and there were even...

...at the Paperless Office concept was first introduced in the 70-ties, as a futuristic office work-style, when the first personal computers were introduced. Advances in information & communication technology has since then made the Paperless Office a feasible reality. The advantages of going paperless are many and undeniable. LEARN MORE ABOUT PAPERLESS The terms "paperless," "electronic," and "digital" are often used interchangeably to describe work which previously was done with paper, but which now has been adapted to information & communication technology (ICT) devices and software. The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) has defined information technology (IT) in the electronic era as "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." IT entails processes involving the use of computers and software to create, convert, store, process, transmit, and retrieve information securely. The term has recently been broadened to ICT (Information and Communications Technology), so as to include the idea of electronic communication. To be paperless means essentially that the traditional paper-based practices-such as writing, note taking, reading, editing, communicating, and even drawing-are instead performed electronically with ICT devices and software. Much has been said and written about the paperless office in recent years, and the rapid development...
