Group Discussion Assignment #1 Totals:
After taking the Leadership Behavior Self-Assessment, I scored (30) in task orientation and (35) in people oriented leadership. I was not surprised to see my total for task leadership was lower than my total score for people leadership. I tend to be shy around people and don’t often assert myself, so I do not consider myself to have very good leadership skills when it comes to directing others and leading people. Strengths:
Task Leadership Behaviors:
1. Summarizer: I am able to understand the big picture and pull all facts together in a general summarization.
2. Information and Opinion-Seeker: I enjoy asking people for their opinions, feelings and ideas.
3. Diagnosis-Giver: I like examining a problem or difficult situation to figure out what exactly is the issue and how it can be solved. I like identifying the blocks that prevent a goal from being accomplished.
4. Evaluator: I can look a situation while comparing accomplishments and actions against the goals set out and use this information to help the group. People Leadership Behaviors:
1. Participation Encourager: I am definitely open to other people’s suggestions and would not discourage anyone from participating. I am friendly and responsive when someone talks about his or her thoughts or ideas.
2. Communication Helper: I like to be the objective point of view that can clear up any miscommunication.
3. Process Observer: I have always been a natural observer. I sit and process everything before feeling comfortable enough to participate fully.
