This song relates to the book by addressing the different love affairs happening between the various men and women such as Darcy falling in love with Elizabeth. He does not want to love her, though, and that relates to the lines “I’ve got a problem and I don’t know what to do” and “I think I really like her, I hope she really likes me too.” Because Darcey did not want to fall for Elizabeth even though he was, and Elizabeth was not also falling in love with him, Darcey had a problem. Even though he did not want to love Elizabeth, he still did and hoped she would love him back.

For example, when the song says “Unbreak my heart, say you’ll love me again, undo this hurt in my heart when you walked out the door and ran out of my life.” This relates back to when Mr. Bingley left and Jane did not know whether he was returning or not.
