...Synchronous learning refers to a group of people learning the same things at the same time in the same place. This is the type of pedagogy practiced in most schools and undergraduate programs, but not in graduate programs. Lecture is an example of synchronous learning in a face-to-face environment and with advent of web conferencing tools, people can learn at the same time in different places as well. For example, use of instant messaging or live chat, webinars and video conferencing allow for students and teachers to collaborate and learn in real time. Advantages of synchronous online learning is very similar to an actual classroom, in that it permits immediate feedback, and detailed collaboration both with instructors and fellow students. The synchronous model also allows for various real-time activities, providing for continuing motivation for the students. In addition, as compared to asynchronous model, synchronous online learning promotes a sense of community between the students and teachers. Another advantage is definitely the cost factor, when an individual student is studying at home or at the workplace, the cost reduction when compared to conventional in-session, live learning or training, is significant. Quality of teaching is another advantage. Because the physical barriers of distance are eliminated, it becomes possible to deliver educational sessions from the reputable and knowledgeable instructors, anywhere in the world. The advantage of flexibility must...

...September 1, 2013 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE CLASSES AND DISTANCE LEARNING Distant learning typically involves you sitting in a classroom while an instructor, via satellite, instructs you’re class or vice versa. You can see them, they can see you. Many online learning is typically for college, you may meet once or twice, but the learning is done through an online server. Usually, you have a book to read, projects to submit electronically and quizzes online to take. So, in my paragraphs, I will describe to you the differences between online classes and distance learning. Honestly, distance learning for me is more accurate than online learning, because you can learn more in a classroom setting. I like to be in a classroom setting because, an instructor can teach you more, and actually break down the work for you step by step. Also, if you need additional help, a teacher is actually there to help you with the work. On the other hand, online classes are actually convent for some people that work. You can do it anywhere, anytime, as long as it is done by the due date. My disadvantage of online learning is that, if I need help with any project, I can’t actually get in touch with my teacher right then. I would have to wait until the teacher contact me. In my conclusion, I would prefer distance learning over online learning. But, for right now, I would have to take online classes due to my own schedule. I like that online classes give me the flexibility to do my homework...

...Explain how technology has changed the learning environment. New technology such as E-learning has the use of Internet technologies to enhance knowledge and performance. E-learning technologies have provided learners with the capability to have control over contents, learning sequences, pace of learning, and media database at their fingertips which saves time. It also allows them to tailor their experiences to meet their personal learning objectives. Noe’s thoughts on new technology depicted on p.358 that new technology training methods are superior to traditional methods in one way because they allow trainers to participate in courses at any time or places (Noe, p. 358). I once read a case study which depicted an insurance company who was looking for new ways to cut cost while simultaneously maintaining their competitive edge in the insurance marketing industry. In this scenario, the company was a giant amongst its competitors, and all their employees were grandfathered in as there were practically relatives or good friends of the CEO. When the CEO died, he left the company to his son. After the first year of running the company, his son realize that he could expand the company, increase sales, make a profit, and cut expenses at the same time by using new technology such as multimedia, and E-Services. This was a great idea; very innovative marketing strategy; however, it also meant lay-offs and unemployment for most employees. His concepts for change were based on the...

Through rewards and discount programs such as free shipping, Amazon has made it expensive to switch to a competitor. Once a customer is enrolled in these rewards programs, the price difference is such that the customer will pay more to switch. Unfortunatley, there are many disadvantages that come with being a first-mover. Although you can retain a portion of the industry through brand loyalty, there are many customers who choose to wait until products or services have improved. These customers will also wait for competiting businesses to lower costs and are willing to wait out the bugs and problems that first movers often run into. By being a first-mover, it is easy for competitors to see what you are doing right, and where you need to improve. They can easily take this opportunity to create a better business building off of your idea. The learning curve was steep because this was branching into a whole new world of communication and business to customer opportunities. Not knowing what to expect or what the customer responses were going to be created a number of technical problems that had to be improved upon in order to stay competitive as new entrants flooded the market, hoping to snag some of the profits. Some teachers feel that they don’t want to have yet another new thing to learn. They have spent years learning about the language and dealing with the different designer approaches and fads in ELT. And now, they are being told that all the knowledge and experience they have accrued from teaching English is not enough if they are unable to get to grips with the latest device or online software. They feel that the ability to use technology has got nothing to do with learning English per se, and if such high standard and qualification are needed for learners to survive in the job market, then these learners should be taking classes in IT, and not be relying on their English teacher to provide them with such training. . 2. Ethics in Distance Education

...EDUCATION Ethics in Distance Education Anna Amen Strayer University   Ethics in Distance Education In today’s world, technology has had a major impact in allowing students to attend college courses over the internet. Distance Education, or Distance learning, is a form of education where the professor and student are separated by distance. This has become a very popular way of learning for students to either start or continue their education. With the use of computers, students are able to communicate over the internet with their professor over discussion boards, video conferencing, and chat rooms. Students have gained a huge interest in distance education since they are able to use these forms of communication through a computer instead of attending a traditional classroom. Distance education is mainly preferred by students because it is flexible, convenient and the variety and availability of classes offered. Students are able to attend classes online on their own time allowing them to work around school and family obligations. It also allows them to attend classes anywhere they are located as to having to be on campus to take classes. The classes that are not available on campus are available online along with many other classes a student can participate in. By having these types of advantages, it is no wonder how distance education is becoming increasingly popular among students and people who want to go back to school to further their education. There has...
