This paper is focused on understanding diversity management by the principles of Human Resource Management (HRM). Researches throw light on the fact that there are still problems existing at workplaces regarding equality, and HRM has focused only on just meeting up with the requirements of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), there has been negligence visible in managing diversity in an organization. The proposed framework here is of how to manage workforce with diversity and especially when people with disability are involved in the workforce of a company. In such condition, special care needs to be taken in order to make them feel at par with other employees by providing them with equal opportunities.

In 2004, IBM got the award for best staffing and recruitment practices. IBM deliberately asked the recruitments manager to hire people of different social and cultural groups, people from different ethnicity, from different cultures, of different genders, different age groups, to bring a mix of all the diversities. The idea behind this was to make use of the talent of every person unique to him from various parts of the world and society. It helped IBM to grow many folds, as with diverse group of people, now they have more ideas to work upon and more people to criticize and refine the products. The same year company launched the Talent marketplace, which supported employees to find the most suitable job across different organizational units within the company. Disability of an employee from work due to illness is the most common cause given by the employees for their disability from work. Although it is perfectly fine on the part of employees to take occasional leave from work due to illness or similar causes, but it becomes a major challenge to be constantly monitored and looked after by the management to ensure the work going without suffering any loss of productivity due to this disability. The goal is to create a work environment whereby employees remain motivated to return to work, as soon as they are physically possible because they feel supported and they know their work is valued.

• Disability due to illness causes loss not only to the employee but also to the organization as well.
• Disability and absenteeism is to be managed according to various laws and legislations.
• Nurturing a work environment, where employees would like to return as soon as they are fit and fine from illness.
• Disability and absenteeism can be prevented/minimized through the provision of Transitional Work scheduling and Reasonable Accommodation.

Definition
Transitional work is the name for the facility given to the employees suffering from partial disability in form of modified work environment like, reduced work hours, work at home, suitable work, for a specific time period until recovery from the disability.
