DJ Rqaway
DJ Rqaway (rock-away) is a disc jockey from New Orleans, LA. He has been in the DJ community as a Definition DJ for five years. A Definition DJ is a DJ that has built a name for his or her self in NOLA’s hiphop community. They are allowed to wear the official logo “Definition DJ” on their laptops, shirts, hats, or where ever else they want to place their badge of honor.
DJ Rqaway is a man on a mission. He is a one-man show who can somehow extend himself to not only please his audience but also the audience of his fellow artists in NOLA. Rqaway has his own nights every Friday at Handsome Willy’s on N. Robertson off of Canal St. where he DJ’s all night long playing club baggers, local hits, requests, and his own favorite mixes he has made. Another one of his jobs include guest DJing for showcases. An example is how he DJs seasonally for MashOut which a monthly showcase featuring the rising underground NOLA talent. Another gig he does is DJing for the talent in NOLA. One of his favorite groups to DJ for is DeepNSpace and what he’ll do is play the music for their set; however, many rehearsals are necessary to make the show look so effortless. He is even featured in one of their videos.
For the last year and some months, DJ Rqaway has taken a liking to photography. He realized that he has a gift for detail and he has the resources to make quality pictures. He started off going around to his friend’s events, such as a DeepNSpace show, and he took pictures of their performances. After a few months of doing that, he started getting a major buzz in the NOLA hip-hop community as a DJ to be reckoned with. He continued his efforts as a supporter for his friends, taking pictures, being a DJ, and so on but one day something clicked in his head. He realized that while he was out supporting his friends, he could be promoting his own events!
He began to make business card shaped flyers. It was very simple. It was a black card and on one side it read #(hashtag)AWAYTEAM then on the other side it read @DJRQAWAY with www.whatisawayteam.com underneath. The website is a portal that gets you totally caught up on what the AwayTeam is. Long story short, the AwayTeam is his supporters. If you go online and type #AwayTeam into a twitter search engine, tumblr search engine, instagram search engine, and so on, you will find out just who the AwayTeamers are.
Since his first flyercard, DJ Rqaway has upgraded to a new and improved flyercard. This one comes with the new scanner logos that are popping up on everything from receipts to cereal boxes. If you take your smart phone and scan the bar code then www.whoisawayteam.com automatically shows up on the screen. This time the website has a link to the tumblr where Rqaway shares all of his pictures that he takes while he is out on the #AwayTeam mission.
DJ Rqaway is turning into a marketing guru. He started a program called AwayTeam Card Members. If you are a card holding member of the AwayTeam then that means you payed thirty dollars to get into any event DJ’d by Rqaway for the year. You also have your own “#AwayTeam” shirt and you have assorted #Awayteam stickers. Rqaway sends out updates to cardholding members by having a scanner code on the member card. This scanner goes to a different website specifically for members and they receive information on pop-up shows, canceled events, and exciting/fun proposals that Rqaway comes up with to promote his AwayTeam brand.
A fan-favorite favorite that is a non-DJ related initiative Rqaway started is the Annual Tour de Crescent, which is a sign-up only bike tour around New Orleans. Anyone who signs up to ride with the group is automatically an AwayTeam member and the purpose is to raise awareness about his brand and to promote some type of exercise activity. His first time doing this was a success with about thirty people in attendance and he projects that 2013 will be even better!
DJ Rqaway is a one-man show turned marketing guru. He started off being his own street team but in 2013 it is not uncommon for one to see many of the people who plan or head events in NOLA to where an #AwayTeam shirt. Rqaway is the only person who passes out #AwayTeam cards. He says “that way you don’t waste your money by giving it to people who don’t care.”
People are motivated to support DJ Rqaway because they see the hustle and finesse he puts into his work. When people see someone hand them a card with bar code scans on it and websites and tumblr sites many people think, ”Wow! I may have to see what this guy is talking about.” Then when they actually go to one of his events they more than likely tweet #awayteam and from that point on they know where to go to have a good time.
Rqaway can track his buzz from his efforts from many measures. The first measure is seeing how many people are showing up to the weekly event at Handsome Willy’s called the Tipping Point. Another is by tracking how many people have registered to be members. The newest way is through the flyercards. Everytime a card is scanned Rqaway receives an e-mail memo to keep track of how many people scan and when they scan. He also gains hits through his websites simultaneously. The best method to know if his efforts are working is to search #AwayTeam. The more people type #awayteam, the more buzz DJ Rqaway creates.
His methods are working better than any person I have witnessed in NOLA. Everyone in my circle knows of DJ Rqaway, the AwayTeam, the Tipping Point, or one of the many shows and talent he is affiliated with. His campaigns are always ethical and somehow he almost always finds a way to lift everyone as he rises on the New Orleans scene.
The power of social networks helped this DJ get to the height he is at right now. Without it, he would not be able to get his message to across to his audience as efficiently as he does. The way he has #AwayTeam merchandise and stickers available for those who are not card members is a tactful way of creating brand ambassadors. Even with out the shirts, word-of-mouth does Rqaway and his AwayTeam plenty of justice because the crowds keep coming back!

...it. Keyes and Zimsky are charged to find a way to restart the core, which requires traveling deep into the Earth and setting off nuclear charges to induce rotational force. Keyes and Zimsky seek the help of Dr. Serge Leveque (Tchéky Karyo), a weapons expert, and Ed "Braz" Brazzelton (Delroy Lindo). Brazzelton reveals a means of not only drilling through the Earth at high speeds using a series of lasers, but also has devised a material, "unobtainium", which is capable of withstanding the pressures deep inside the planet as well as generating energy from them. Keyes himself works to create a means to visualize their path through rock structures via x-rays. To avoid creating a worldwide panic, an expert hacker, Theodore "Rat" Donald Finch (DJ Qualls), is found by an FBI agent (John Shaw) and is brought to monitor the Internet and erase any rumors to the potential fate of the planet. However, there is a hint that the Army is hiding the real reason of the impending catastrophe. The team constructs a snake-like ship named Virgil made up of several compartments that will be launched over the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean, the deepest such area on Earth. Keyes, Zimsky, Leveque, and Brazzelton are joined by NASA astronauts Commander Robert Iverson (Bruce Greenwood) and Major Rebecca "Beck" Childs (Hilary Swank), who will pilot the ship. Straight Out of Compton Review

...Jacques Baynes ENG 101 October 2, 2015 Brad Baumgartner Straight Out Of Compton “Any publicity is good publicity. “Aspiring rapper Eric “Eazy-E” Wright states to the rest of his fellow N.W.A brothers as they sit to discuss the police and F.B.I threats that they have been receiving in the mall. The movie Straight Out of Compton is based on the true story about six troubled some young black men residing in Compton, California who rise unexpectedly to fame, using their viciously honest rhymes, die hard beats, and frustrations about their lifestyle in the streets of the hood. Active from 1986 to 1991 these six men Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Arabian Prince, MC Ren, and DJ Yella have endured enormous controversy owning to their explicit lyrics that many people have view as being disrespectful to women, drugs and crime, police, and gang violence. It’s hard to actively hate Straight Out of Compton, a movie so realistic that is based seemly on the true story of six black rappers whose lyrics and rhymes had left a lasting legacy and impression on the hip-hop culture. O’Shea Jackson Jr and Jason Mitchell are spectacular as Ice Cube and Easy-E who are best friends that come to gloves with one another when Eazy-E receives more money and love from their fans then Ice Cube. Their outstanding performance acting over the edge and showing actions of ruthlessness towards each other as both men spit disrespectful lyrics at each other to become the best rap artist in the industry at that...

Rap Music and the Symphony

...LATONIA ALFRED ART/100   RAP MUSIC IN COMPARISON TO SYMPHONY MUSIC LATONIA ALFRED ART/100   RAP MUSIC IN COMPARISON TO SYMPHONY MUSIC Rap Music in comparison to Symphony Music Rap Music, a form of Pop music that includes rhythmic poetry put over a musical background. The background consists of beats combined with digitally isolated sound bites from other recordings. The first recording of rap was made in 1979 and the genre began to take notice in the U.S. in the mid-1980s. Though the name rap is often used back and forth with hip hop. The name hip-hop comes from one of the earliest phrases used in rap on the song “Rapper’s Delight” by Sugarhill Gang. “I said a hip hop, hippie to the hippie, the hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it to the bang bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie, to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat.”(Asante 109) In addition to rap music, the hip-hop subculture also formed other methods of expression like break dancing, graffiti art, a unique slang vocabulary, and fashion sense. Rap started in the mid-1970s in the South Bronx area of New York City. The birth of rap originated in the African American community and was first recorded by small, independent record labels and marketed towards, mostly to a black audience. Rap music was created out of the needs for people to express their inner most feelings and emotions. The rap culture emerged after the African American Civil Rights Movement at the end of the 1960s and in the early 1970s...

Hip Hop

...Hip Hop plays a big role in the young generation today as it did back in the day. Hip Hop started in The Bronx, New York a war torn country at the time. It kept children from hanging out in the streets and getting into trouble. The first documented hip-hop party was on August 11, 1973 and was hosted by Dj Kool Herc. There are four elements in hip-hop, they are dancing, rap, Dj and graffiti. Dance is a series of movements that match the speed and the rhythm of a certain piece of music. Rap is a form of music which a person swiftly rhymes poetry over a beat. A DJ is a disc jockey or the person who plays recorded music for the audience and sometimes talks over the track as it plays; they speak to the audience to keep the party hyped. The last element of hip hop is graffiti, and that is the writings or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed on a wall or any surface in a public place. This was the element of hip-hop that was misinterpreted by the mainstream media and most hated by the whites. In 1989 the Berlin Wall fell, some thought that would bring everyone closer, like unite the people, but it didn’t. The 90’s were the birth of gangster rap, which the main focus was on the West Coast. After viewing this video I now know that hip hop is all colors and races, and was the voice of the young generation in the early 70’s just as it is today 40 years later, the rap game has evolved a lot since then, but its still the same...

Cultural Appropriation in Hip-Hop

...Mecca of hip-hop is the Bronx, New York City. The phenomenon started In 1975 when a local Jamaican immigrant and DJ named Kool Herc burst on to the scene with a new style of music in which he employed break-beats over samples of James Brown records. According to the writers of Old School Hip Hop.com “Kool Herc is the father of [the] underground sound from New York that found its way to becoming a worldwide phenomenon” (n.p). However, many other hip-hop historians credit James Brown much more than Herc, and even Kool Herc himself is quoted in a New Black Magazine. Com article crediting Brown with the words, “if it weren’t for James Brown, there would be no such thing as hip-hop” (n.p.) In short, if the Bronx is the Mecca of hip-hop, then James Brown is Allah, and DJ Kool Herc is the Prophet Mohammed. In the early years, hip-hop’s first emcees were DJ’s. It was their job to entertain the crowd, keep the party alive, and introduce the records that they were playing. Kool Herc was the first to employ other emcees to speak over his records for him. According to Piero Scarufi, author of “A History of Rock and Dance Music”, Herc’s emcees, known as the Herculoids, were Jamaican immigrants who appropriated the Jamaican tradition of toasting (a reggae artist speaking in rhyme over instrumental sections of a record) (n.p.). With Jamaican toasts over James Brown samples, DJ Kool Herc...

...ISR (Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) descriptive analysis essay ISR is the coordinated and integrated acquisition, processing and provision of timely, accurate, relevant, coherent and assured information and intelligence to support commander’s conduct of activities. Land, sea, air and space platforms have critical ISR roles in supporting operations in general. By massing ISR assets, allowing a period of immersion, developing layering and cross cueing of sensors, an improved clarity and depth of knowledge can be established.[1] ISR encompasses multiple activities related to the planning and operation of systems that collect, process, and disseminate data in support of current and future military operations.[2] Examples of ISR systems include surveillance and reconnaissance systems ranging from satellites, to manned aircraft such as the U-2, to unmanned aircraft systems such as the US Air Force’s Global Hawk and Predator and the US Army’s Hunter, to other ground-, air-, sea-, or space-based equipment, and to human intelligence teams. The intelligence data provided by these ISR systems can take many forms, including optical, radar, or infrared images or electronic signals. Effective ISR data can provide early warning of enemy threats as well as enable military forces to increase effectiveness, coordination, and lethality, and demand for ISR capabilities to support ongoing military operations has increased.[3] ISR concepts are also...

Tukel a a,* , Walter O. Rom a, Sandra Duni Eksioglu b College of Business Administration, Cleveland State University, 1860 East 18th Street, Cleveland, OH 44114, USA b Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611, USA Received 24 April 2004; accepted 28 October 2004 Available online 1 January 2005 Abstract In this paper, we introduce two methods for determining feeding buffer sizes in critical chain project scheduling. Both methods integrate project characteristics into the formulation. Specifically, one of them incorporates resource tightness while the other uses network complexity. Both methods are tested and compared to two commonly suggested methods in the literature, the cut and paste method and the root square error method, as well as using no buffer as a benchmark. The comparison is done by means of a simulation study using the Patterson data set. The test results indicate that both of the suggested methods generate smaller buffer sizes while providing sufficient protection against delays in project completion time. Ó 2004 Elsevier B.V.
